  1. Don't Wait for a Crisis to Change Your Life — Maria Menounos

    Show notes

Emmy Award-winning journalist, television personality, and two-time New York Times bestselling author Maria Menounos joins the show for a deeply personal conversation about healing, loss, and finding your true purpose. Maria opens up about the decade-long barrage of challenges she faced — a brain tumor, losing her mother, a pancreatic cancer diagnosis, and Type 1 diabetes — and how each one redirected her toward the life she was meant to live. She and Ed discuss the identity crisis that comes with caregiving and loss, how to know when it's time to walk away from a career that no longer fits, and why a health crisis became her "get out of jail free card" to finally pursue her soul's calling. In this episode, you'll learn: - How to know when it's time to walk away from a career that looks perfect on paper but doesn't fit your soul - The "wonder over worry" tool Maria used while facing pancreatic cancer during pregnancy — and how Ed is already applying it - How to stop bracing for the next bad thing when life keeps hitting you with back-to-back hardships - The one question to ask yourself before quitting anything: "Am I quitting because it's hard, or because it's not right?" - Why Maria calls her brain tumor her "get out of jail free card" — and why you shouldn't wait for a crisis to pivot - How to give yourself permission to rest as a high achiever without losing your momentum - The lesson no one teaches achievers: when the next rung on the ladder isn't worth what you'd sacrifice to reach it - Maria's real-time playbook for losing her biggest sponsor, reframing the fear, and quadrupling her YouTube views in 30 days - A daily gratitude and "God talks" practice you can start in your car tomorrow - The most important thing Ed and Maria agree you should do with your parents while you still can - This is a conversation about healing, simplifying, and having the courage to redefine success on your own terms. 2. Who Actually Becomes a Millionaire? The Numbers Will Surprise You | Ed Mylett

    Show notes

Approval in minutes, small business funding same day for up to $500k. Apply Now https://cardiff.co/ED What if the reason you're not wealthy yet has nothing to do with how much money you make — and everything to do with the habits you haven't built? In this mashup episode, I'm bringing you one of the most eye-opening and practical conversations about money, wealth-building, and financial discipline I've ever had on the show. If you've ever wondered who actually becomes a millionaire, what it really takes to get there, and whether you're on track — this episode is for you. I'm breaking down the real statistics behind wealth in America, and the numbers will surprise you. Less than 0.1% of people make a million dollars a year five years in a row. The income gap between the top 1% and everyone else is widening at an accelerating rate. And yet, people making $500,000+ a year are four times more likely to file bankruptcy than the average person. Making money and keeping money are two completely different skills — and most people only have one of them, if that. I share the financial mistakes I've made personally — cars repossessed, homes foreclosed on, power and water shut off — and how those painful experiences forced me to build the habits that eventually created wealth. Whether you make minimum wage or seven figures, the habits of a wealthy person must start where you are right now — not when you "make more." Because the truth is, if you don't save money when you're making very little, you won't save it when you're making a lot. This mashup also dives deep into the number one skill every entrepreneur must develop: the ability to persuade and influence. I break down how to become evangelical about your mission, how to transfer energy, why repetition is the mother of skill, and why most people dramatically overestimate their ability to communicate. I sit down with Jen Gottlieb to talk about why building a personal brand is the greatest investment you can make right now — whether you're a stay-at-home mom, a CEO, or someone just starting out. And we get into the deeper question behind all of it: What would you do if you had all the time in the world? Because the ultimate goal of wealth isn't stuff — it's freedom. It's the ability to spend your life doing what fulfills you, serving people with your gifts, and never having to be anywhere you don't want to be. Key Takeaways: • Why less than 0.1% of people make a million dollars a year consistently • The real income gap statistics and what they mean for your future • Why people making $500K+ a year are 4x more likely to file bankruptcy • How to calculate your Financial Independence Number (FIN) • The three buckets you need: emergency fund, savings, and investments • Why paying yourself first is the single most important financial habit • How living below your means — and staying there as income grows — builds wealth • Why most millionaires made their first million in ONE business before diversifying • The myth of "multiple streams of income" and why focus beats diversification early on • The #1 skill every entrepreneur must master: persuasion and influence • How to become evangelical about your mission and transfer energy to others • Why repetition and role play build the reflexes you need under pressure • How to build a personal brand that opens doors — no matter your career • Why owning your email and text list matters more than social media followers • The difference between being happy and being fulfilled — and how wealth buys you the time to find both You don't need to know how you're going to finish. You just need to start the habit. One decision to save, to budget, to build, to focus, can completely change the trajectory of your family's future. There is a version of you that is financially free, totally in control of your time, and living your calling. That version of you is waiting on the other side of discipline. 3. John Maxwell's #18 Law of Leadership: The Law of Sacrifice

Everybody wants the next level. Very few people ask what the next level costs. This week is about the Law of Sacrifice — the principle that growth is not just about what you add to your life, but what you are willing to release.

Law 18 in John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is the Law of Sacrifice, and John teaches it with one of the most demanding lines in the entire series: a leader must give up to go up. I open this episode by breaking down why greater leadership usually brings greater responsibility, not greater comfort, and why your willingness to sacrifice often has to grow with your influence.

I share the difference between early-career sacrifice and later-career sacrifice, because what got you to one level can become the very thing that keeps you from the next. Maybe being involved in every detail helped you build the company, but now it prevents the company from scaling. Maybe being the smartest person in the room made you feel safe, but now it keeps stronger people from wanting to work with you. Growth requires subtraction too.

I also explain why sacrifice is not the glorification of misery. It is alignment. Great leaders do not sacrifice randomly — they sacrifice intentionally, giving up lower priorities for higher ones, ego for mission, convenience for calling, and immediate gratification for long-term significance. And I walk you through what I call the sacrifice exchange: a two-column exercise to close the gap between what you say you want and what you are willing to pay for it.

Here is what you will gain from this episode:

    • Give up to go up: Why every new level of leadership requires you to build something and leave something behind.
    • Knowing vs. willingness: Why most people already know what they need to change — the real question is how badly they want the future compared to how badly they want the comfort.
    • Early vs. later sacrifice: How the nature of sacrifice shifts from working while others play to letting go of control, ego, and identity.
    • Growth requires subtraction: Why the biggest breakthroughs in your life may come from what you are willing to release, not what you are willing to add.
    • Sacrifice and value: How to tell what somebody truly values by looking at what they are willing to give up for it.
    • The sacrifice exchange: A two-column exercise — what I say I want on the left, what it requires on the right.
    • One intentional sacrifice: How to identify a single, meaningful sacrifice for the next seven days that is directly connected to your priority.

At the end of your life, nobody is going to give you an award for holding onto everything. Your next breakthrough may not be waiting on another opportunity — it may be waiting on your willingness to release something that no longer belongs in the future you are building. Decide what is worth paying for, and let go of the rest.

  4. Jesse Itzler: Play Life On OFFENSE | How to Build an Epic Life Resume

    Show notes

Jesse Itzler is back on the show, and this conversation goes deeper than business. From founding Marquis Jet (sold to Berkshire Hathaway's NetJets) to co-founding ZICO Coconut Water (sold to Coca-Cola), Jesse's entrepreneurial resume speaks for itself — but what he really wants to talk about is your life resume.

In this episode, Jesse and Ed unpack the mindset shifts that separate people who exist from people who live. Jesse shares the concept of "last visit energy" — a practice born from visiting his aging parents that completely changed how he shows up for the people he loves. They discuss why most people play life on defense, letting other people fill their calendars, and how Jesse flips the script by aggressively planning his life years in advance.

You'll learn about the Japanese tradition of Misogi — picking one big, year-defining challenge every single year — and why Jesse believes if you can't find one day every eight weeks for yourself, your work-life balance is broken. They dig into friend reduction, the power of "yes, and" people, why grit is the biggest indicator of future success, and the sobering truth that 80 is still 80.

This one will make you think differently about time, presence, and what you're putting on your calendar.

🔥 Here's What You'll Gain From This Episode

    • The "Life Resume" framework — why your work resume fills itself in, but your life resume takes intention, and how to start building one that actually matters

    • "Last visit energy" — a mindset shift that will change how you show up for the people you love, starting today

    • The Misogi method — how to pick one big, year-defining challenge every year so you can look back and actually remember your life

    • Playing life on offense — Jesse's system for aggressively planning your calendar before other people fill it for you

    • The mini-adventure strategy — one day every eight weeks that could give you 300 unforgettable experiences over a lifetime

    • Friend reduction — how to curate your circle around "yes, and" people who energize you instead of draining you

    • Grit as a one-way ratchet — why pushing through suffering permanently raises your baseline, and how to apply it to parenting, business, and life

    • "80 is still 80" — the sobering reminder that postponing things is often just quietly canceling them

    • Lessons from an empty nester — the regrets parents share most, and how to avoid waiting until it's too late to be present with your kids

  5. How to Make Anyone Instantly Like You (Without Saying a Word) | Ed Mylett

    Show notes

What if the secret to getting people to like you, trust you, and say YES has almost nothing to do with what you say and EVERYTHING to do with how you make them feel?

In this powerful mashup episode, I'm bringing together some of the greatest minds in communication, persuasion, and human connection to reveal one of the most important skills you can ever develop: the ability to make people feel truly seen, heard, and understood. I'm joined by Charles Duhigg, Zoe Chance, Eric Thomas, Lewis Howes, Chris Voss, and Dean Graziosi to break down what separates people who struggle to connect from those who can walk into any room and instantly build trust and influence. Whether you're trying to grow a business, close a deal, strengthen your marriage, or become a better leader, these conversations will completely change how you interact with the people around you.

Charles Duhigg shares an incredible story about a struggling CIA agent who became one of the agency's greatest recruiters, not by becoming a better persuader, but by learning to connect emotionally. He also reveals a powerful three-step communication technique called "looping for understanding" that can transform even your most difficult conversations. Zoe Chance breaks down the science of charisma and why people make decisions emotionally first and justify them logically second. She reveals that the two most important ingredients of charisma are connection and confidence, and that you don't have to be the loudest or most impressive person in the room to become the most influential.

Eric Thomas brings a perspective that every leader needs to hear: you cannot truly influence people you haven't taken the time to understand. He explains why the greatest communicators stop focusing on what THEY want to say and start discovering what other people actually need. In my conversation with Lewis Howes, I share the three principles that have helped me build extraordinary success: identifying your greatest gifts, genuinely caring about people, and becoming obsessed with mastering your craft. I also open up about how growing up with an alcoholic father taught me to read people's emotions and how some of your greatest strengths can actually come from your deepest pain.

Former FBI hostage negotiator Chris Voss reveals why listening is one of the most powerful negotiation tools in the world. He shares a remarkably simple technique called "mirroring" that can get people to open up by repeating just a few words they've said. I even share how using one of Chris's techniques completely changed a heated negotiation in my own life. And Dean Graziosi takes these principles into one of the most important areas of our lives: relationships. He opens up about the mistakes he made in his first marriage, why keeping score destroys intimacy, and how learning to experience love through GIVING rather than receiving transformed his marriage, his happiness, and even his business success.

Here's what I want you to understand: People don't remember every word you say. They remember how you made them FEEL. I've learned that being a great communicator isn't about dominating conversations, having the perfect response, or proving how intelligent you are. It's about being PRESENT. It's about listening without interrupting, asking better questions, matching someone's emotional energy, and making them feel like they're the most important person in the world at that moment. If you want to become more influential, build deeper relationships, and create opportunities you never imagined possible, stop trying so hard to be interesting and start becoming genuinely INTERESTED.

    Key Takeaways:

    •

The secret to instant connection: Why making people feel heard and understood is more powerful than having the perfect thing to say.

    •

Charles Duhigg's three-step communication technique: How "looping for understanding" creates trust and deeper conversations.

    •

The science of charisma with Zoe Chance: Why connection and confidence matter more than being outgoing or naturally charming.

    •

Eric Thomas on authentic influence: Why understanding what people need is the foundation of powerful communication.

    •

My three principles for building success: Discover your greatest gifts, genuinely care about people, and become obsessed with excellence.

    •

Chris Voss's FBI negotiation technique: How mirroring someone's last few words can unlock conversations and defuse conflict.

    •

Why emotions drive decisions: How people connect emotionally before they respond to facts and logic.

    •

Dean Graziosi's relationship breakthrough: Why keeping score destroys connection and giving love can transform your relationships.

    •

The power of nonverbal communication: How eye contact, body language, facial expressions, and matching someone's energy build instant rapport.

    •

How to become unforgettable: Why acknowledgment, thoughtful questions, and following up after conversations make people feel truly valued.

I want you to walk away from this episode with a completely different understanding of influence. The greatest communicators aren't the people who make everyone notice THEM. They're the people who make everyone else feel IMPORTANT. And when you master that skill, you won't just become more persuasive. You'll become a better spouse, parent, friend, leader, and human being. Stop trying to impress people. Start making an IMPACT on them. That's how you build relationships that change your life.

  6. John Maxwell’s #17 Law of Leadership: The Law of Priorities

    Show notes

📥 CLICK HERE to Download the free Leadership Workbook and submit your question for our Q&A with John and me.

Being busy is one of the easiest ways to lie to yourself. You can work twelve hours a day, answer every email, take every meeting, and still go home without moving your life or your business an inch. This week is about the difference between activity and accomplishment, and why great leaders refuse to confuse the two.

Law 17 in John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is the Law of Priorities, and I believe it is the most practical law in the entire series. We live in an economy of distraction where everyone wants a piece of your attention, and if you are not intentional, you can give your entire life away ten minutes at a time. I open this episode by breaking down why leadership gets harder as opportunities multiply, and why the real skill is knowing what not to do.

John teaches this one from lived experience. More than thirty years ago, a single paragraph in a college business textbook changed the way he works, and he has been a student of priorities ever since. He explains why he only does four things, and he walks through the three questions he uses to find the top twenty percent that drives his results.

I'll share how I divide my day into three mini days, challenge you to build a standard around your time, and give you a priority audit to run before the week begins. I also ask what truly deserves your best energy in this season of your life.

Here is what you will gain from this episode:

    • Activity vs. accomplishment: Why a full day can feel productive and still leave your life exactly where it was.
    • Three priority questions: The simple filter that helps you find the few things worth your best energy.
    • The Pareto principle: What it says about how you spend your time and the people you spend it with.
    • Time compression: How three mini days help you evaluate and adjust faster than a single 24-hour day.
    • Only you vs. happen to be doing: How to tell the difference between tasks that require your presence and tasks you have simply inherited.
    • The 90-day calendar test: Why your calendar tells the truth about what you value.
    • The priority audit: A one-week exercise to close the gap between what you say matters and what you schedule.

At the end of your life, nobody is going to give you an award for answering the most emails. Your dreams deserve your best hours, not whatever is left at the end of the day. Decide what gets your best energy before the week begins, and protect it.

  7. Darryl Strawberry: From Baseball Legend to Redemption

    Show notes

Approval in minutes, small business funding same day for up to $500k. Apply Now https://cardiff.co/ED

You are not stuck with the person you have been.

Darryl Strawberry is back on the show! His last visit was one of the most shared episodes we have ever done. This time he went deeper, and I got emotional sitting across from him.Darryl was one of the greatest players I have ever watched: seventeen years in the big leagues, Rookie of the Year, four World Series.

He has also lived through addiction, cancer twice, the loss of a kidney, and a heart attack. When they wheeled him into surgery, he told God he was okay either way.

He has had to start over more than once, and he tells you exactly how he did it.

I ask him the question so many people are carrying right now: Who am I when the thing I built my identity on is gone? A marriage, a business, a career, a title?

I share how the imposter syndrome still shows up for me and how i handle it. Then I lay out my belief that God plants two or three real gifts in each of us, and that they get revealed through pain and through serving others. I push Darryl on how you stay confident and fierce while still surrendering your life to God, and Darryl answers with total honesty.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • Identity after the loss: What to do when the thing you built yourself on is gone.
    • The disqualification lie: Why the mistakes you think rule you out may be what qualifies you.
    • Pain and service: The two doors that reveal gifts you did not know you had.
    • Surrender and self-belief: How to stay fierce while still giving up the wheel.
    • Other people's opinions: How Darryl handled millions of people forming a view of him.
    • The operating room: What he said to God on the way in, and why it will stay with you.
    • Game 6, 1986: What really went on in that dugout, and I make this Red Sox fan relive it.

Darryl said it better than I can: you did not get into this mess overnight, so you will not get out of it overnight. But if you refuse to believe it is over, you get another life. Get up.

  8. This Will Save You 30+ Years of Wasted Life | Ed Mylett

    Show notes

What if the moment you think you have nothing left is actually the moment you discover what you're truly capable of?

In this mashup episode, I'm bringing you one of the most powerful examples of human endurance and mental toughness I've ever encountered with James Lawrence, better known as the Iron Cowboy. James has built his life around doing what most people would call impossible, and this conversation isn't really about endurance sports. It's about YOU. It's about what happens when life gets painful, when your mind starts begging you to stop, and when the distance between where you are and where you want to be feels overwhelming. James is living proof that your perceived limits are rarely your actual limits.

James and I break down what it takes to keep moving when everything inside of you wants to quit. The biggest battles aren't always physical. They're the negotiations happening inside your own mind. We talk about eliminating those negotiations, breaking enormous goals into the next manageable step, and understanding that you don't need to see the entire path to keep moving forward. Sometimes winning is simply making it to the next minute, the next mile, the next rep, or the next decision. That's how impossible things eventually become possible.

We also get into something I believe with everything in me: confidence is built through keeping promises to yourself. Every time you say you're going to do something and follow through, especially when it's difficult, you're building evidence about who you are. James didn't wake up one morning with superhuman mental toughness. He built it through adversity, repetition, discipline, and consistently expanding what he believed he could endure. That's available to you too. You don't have to become an Ironman to apply these principles. You can use them in your business, your relationships, your health, your faith, and every dream you're chasing.

I want you to hear this episode and reconsider every limit you've placed on yourself. Stop asking whether the entire mountain is possible and focus on taking the next step. You are capable of enduring more, growing more, and becoming more than your current circumstances are telling you. When things get difficult, don't automatically interpret the pain as a signal to stop. Sometimes it's evidence that you're standing at the exact place where the next version of you is being built.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Why your perceived limits are often nowhere near your actual capacity
    • James Lawrence's approach to accomplishing goals that appear impossible
    • How to stop negotiating with yourself when things get difficult
    • Why breaking massive goals into smaller moments can keep you moving forward
    • How adversity reveals parts of your character you cannot discover through comfort
    • Why keeping promises to yourself builds real confidence
    • How discipline becomes more powerful when motivation disappears
    • Why the next step matters more than seeing the entire path
    • How doing difficult things expands what you believe is possible for your life

You don't need to know how you're going to finish. You just need to refuse to quit on the next step. There is another level of strength, resilience, and greatness inside of you that you haven't met yet. Sometimes the only way to meet that person is to keep going long after the old version of you would have stopped.

What if the one thing you’ve been missing isn’t talent, discipline, or a better plan, but momentum?

Have you ever noticed that when life is going well, everything seems to start going well all at once? One good decision leads to another. One win changes your confidence, then your energy, and suddenly the people around you start believing too. That force is invisible, it is powerful, and it is what takes you from good to great. John Maxwell calls it a leader’s best friend.

John has spent decades teaching leaders how to create, protect, and recover momentum, and in Law 16, The Law of Big Mo, he teaches it with the stories and illustrations that make it stick. He shows why the same team can look brilliant one season and broken the next, and what a leader controls in between.

I open this episode by breaking down where momentum actually begins, and it is a lot smaller than most people think. I challenge you to stop waiting for motivation, because movement comes first and feeling follows. I walk through what momentum looks like in your confidence, your marriage, your health, your finances, and your team.

You do not need perfection to build confidence. You need progress.

Here is what you will gain from this episode:

    • Where it starts: The smallest move that sets the whole chain in motion.
    • The wall and the block: What a speeding train and a stopped train teach you about your biggest problems.
    • Managers vs. leaders: Why one group works on problems and the other works on something else entirely.
    • The great exaggerator: How momentum changes the way you and your team are seen, for better or worse.
    • Thermostat or thermometer: The question every leader has to answer.
    • Six ways to get the wheel turning: Practical steps for your team, your department, and your own life.
    • The Three Win Stack: This week’s rep, small enough to finish before the week is over.

You do not need a new life this week. You need one day that proves a different life is possible. Go get that day!

  10. From Panic to Peace in 10 Minutes — The Tapping Solution with Nick Ortner

    Show notes

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT Come spend the day with me for an event in my home at https://daywithed.com/

Approval in minutes, small business funding same day for up to $500k. Apply Now https://cardiff.co/ED

You can’t think your way out of a thought loop. You have to show your body it’s safe to let go.

I get stuck in thought loops. For years, rumination served me as an entrepreneur because I never missed a detail, but it also exhausted me, and it exhausted the people around me. A mutual friend introduced me to tapping years ago, and it changed how fast I can shift my state. I’ve wanted Nick Ortner on this show for a couple of years, because he is the best in the world at teaching it.

Nick first saw tapping at a Tony Robbins leadership conference and spent the next few years tapping with friends and family for free. In 2007 he put $40,000 of camera equipment on credit cards to film a documentary about it. He has spent the last two decades, building, The Tapping Solution, whose app has now reached 18 million sessions, tackling the thing most of us fight daily: overthinking.

I came into this conversation asking the hard hitters. I asked Nick whether tapping is just a pattern interrupt or a real change in your biology. I pressed him on the sympathetic and parasympathetic states and the vagus nerve. I shared how my own rumination wore me down, and I told him how I turn to his work with the professional athletes I work with when visualization and breathing stop being enough.

Then I tapped along with Nick myself and felt my focus come back.

We also run a live session with Thomas, a friend of mine and a nine-figure entrepreneur working 16 and 17 hour days, and you will watch his number move in real time. Near the end, Nick walks you through your own five-minute session, so you'll get to try it firsthand.

Here’s what you’ll gain from this episode:

    • The safety signal: What tapping actually does in your brain and body while you hold a stressful thought.
    • A quarter of an inch matters: Why the location is everything, and why this is far more than a pattern interrupt.
    • Why pushing harder backfires: What rumination does to your thinking, and why your best ideas show up in the shower.
    • The 0 to 10 number: The simple scale that tells you whether it is working.
    • The breaking point: What Nick did when he was broke, frozen, and ready to quit.
    • Your own session: A guided round you can run today, wherever you are.

Press play, and the next time you feel like giving up, stop. Tap the side of your hand, say what is true, and give your body five minutes to catch up with your mind.

I know you are going to enjoy this one. Don't miss it!

  11. 15 Success Habits to Mastering Anything in Life

    Show notes

Most people quit right before it works.

Every skill I’ve ever mastered started out ugly. Then it got a little awkward. And then things finally started to mesh. I’ve learned that the awkward stage is where most dreams quietly die. This weekend special pulls together teachings and a conversation I believe can help you get through that stage faster.

I break down the stages every pursuit moves through and why so much progress stays invisible. I walk through the habits that turn a goal into a result, challenge you to look at your own scoreboard, and share what starting from scratch has taught me. I also admit the one thing I do out loud that probably looks a little crazy.

Then I sit down with Jon Gordon, a bestselling author and leadership expert who earned his optimism the hard way and now works with elite coaches, teams and leaders. He shares the stories and ideas behind his work, and I press him on how he lived them when everything got hard.

Here’s what you’ll gain from this episode:

    • The Path of Mastery: The stages every skill goes through, and the spot where most people bail out.
    • Hidden Progress: What is happening beneath the surface when it feels like nothing is working.
    • Goals and Habits: Seven moves that connect what you want to what you do each day.
    • A Better Response to Pressure: A simple picture of how to handle the heat when life turns it up.
    • Five Forces That Pull You Off Course: Jon’s framework for what holds people back, plus the answer to each one.

You’re making more progress than you think you are. Press play and stay in the fight a little longer than feels comfortable.

You are much closer than you think!

  12. John Maxwell's #15 Law of Leadership: The Law of Victory

Anybody can lead when the scoreboard looks good. True leadership is revealed when you're behind.

Season three of John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is here, and we open with Law 15: The Law of Victory. Every leader hits the moment when the plan stops working, the market shifts, or the numbers don't look the way they should.

In that moment, everybody looks at you with one question: do you still believe we can win?

John has spent a lifetime building leaders, and he teaches this law through the people he has watched live it, from presidents and prime ministers to a man who walked out the door on Thanksgiving Day and refused to come home until the job was done. His message is simple: leaders find a way for the team to win.

I know this lesson firsthand. I've felt lost. I've lost a little of my swagger. I've made moves that weren't right and didn't know the next one. In this episode, I break down why winners don't experience less adversity than anyone else, why your identity shows up in your losses instead of your wins, and why your team catches how you respond long before they hear a word you say.

Before you press play, ask yourself something. Have I actually lost, or have I just stopped looking for the way to win? Those are two totally different things.

    In this episode you'll learn:

    • Finding a way vs. knowing the way: Why great leaders do not always have the answer, and what to do when it happens to you
    • The question that changes everything: The difference between "why is this happening to me" and what winners ask instead.
    • Contagious leadership: What your team picks up from your language, your tonality, and your patience under pressure.
    • A picture of the law: John makes the Law of Victory tangible with a set of traits you can measure yourself against.
    • Victory is not an individual trophy: Why the leader's job is to bring everybody across the line.
    • The one-page rep: The one winning move to make within 24 hours.

Somewhere in your life, you've started accepting something you were never supposed to accept. Don't let one loss become who you are. Find the next move and make it.

    Max out.

  13. The Sister of Nicole Brown Simpson Speaks Out

    Show notes

What would you do if the person you love most was hiding something that could cost them their life?

This conversation has been 32 years in the making for me. Early in my career, I shared an office with someone connected to the Brown family, and I was around them during the trial. I saw how kind and loving that family was, and I watched Denise carry the weight of her sister's murder in front of the entire world. I have three sisters and a daughter. This one is personal.

Denise Brown lost her best friend, her sister Nicole, in one of the most public tragedies in American history. Instead of disappearing, she testified before Congress, fought for the Violence Against Women Act, and has spent three decades working with shelters across this country so other families never feel what hers did.

I asked Denise the hard questions. Why Nicole never told her family. What she would say to her sister today. How she handled the mocking and criticism. And how one sentence from a pastor changed her relationship with God. What came out of it is a masterclass in honoring your family: keep showing up, keep learning, and keep fighting long after everyone else has moved on. Her new book, For My Sister Nicole: Love Shouldn't Hurt, belongs in the hands of anyone with a sister, a daughter, or a friend they would do anything to protect.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The silence that protects abusers: Why so many victims never tell the people closest to them, and what Nicole may have been protecting her family from.
    • The wrong things to say: Why your first instinct to help a loved one can push them further away.
    • The TRUST approach: A simple framework for supporting someone who isn't ready to leave.
    • Warning signs that start small: Why you don't need a black eye to be in danger.
    • Faith after tragedy: The words that lifted Denise's anger toward God.
    • Courage under criticism: How Denise stood for her sister while the whole world judged her.

Nicole never told her family because she was trying to protect them. Be the brother, sister, or friend someone feels safe telling. Learn the signs, ask better questions, and never stop showing up for the people you love.

  14. How to Force Self-Discipline onto Autopilot | Ed Mylett

    Show notes

Self-discipline isn't something you're born with. It's something you can build until it runs on autopilot.

This weekend I pulled together some of my favorite conversations on the one trait that changes everything. I open with five rules I've carried with me for over twenty years. They're the mindsets behind Tiger Woods and some of the most dominant athletes who ever lived. I've read them thousands of times, and they've shaped how I think about work, pressure, and what it really means to win.

Then I sit down with Mike O'Hearn, who started training at eight years old and is still getting better nearly four decades later. Mike tells me where his chip on the shoulder came from and what gets him out of bed at 3 a.m.

Tim Grover, the man who trained Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, settles a debate I've always wondered about and explains why the greatest are never satisfied.

Dean Graziosi went from a small blue-collar town to building one business after another. He pushes back hard on one of the most popular pieces of advice in entrepreneurship.

Alan Stein Jr., who has spent years around elite NBA performers, shares research on visualization that blew my mind. I share what visualization did for my own baseball career.

I close with something I feel deeply about: what conformity really costs you and why the lonely road is worth it.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The Dominator Mindset: The five rules that separate the greats from everyone else, and why they're mindsets, not just behaviors.
    • Decades of Dominance: What it takes to stay at your peak long after most people have quit.
    • The Never Satisfied Standard: Why the true greats work harder after they win, not before.
    • Go Deep Before You Go Wide: A take on building wealth every new entrepreneur needs to hear.
    • Train Your Mind First: How visualization and the right kind of stress can raise your game.
    • Color Outside the Lines: Why the life you want is waiting outside the picture you were handed.

Sometimes all you can see in front of you is smoke. Don't look at the wall. Keep your eyes on where you're going and drive right through it.

Some of the best leadership lessons don't come from a script. They come from your questions.

Thousands of you sent questions in during Season 2 of John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, so before we kick off Season 3, I sat down to answer them. No prep. Just my raw unfiltered answers.

I go deep on how to sell a dream so big that everyone on your team can see their own dreams inside it. How to carry real confidence without losing your humility, and one of the toughest questions I've been asked in a long time: what do you do when you're leading from underneath someone who feels threatened by you?

I open up about servant leadership, about letting go of the need for credit, and about why I stopped micromanaging a long time ago.

Then Max, my son, asked me how to get ready for the leader's legacy, and that's where it got personal. Having my son sitting across from me while I talked about what really lasts made this one hit different. I think you'll feel it too.

At the end of your life, you won't be sitting around with your trophies. You'll be sitting around with your people. That's the legacy, and that's why I want you to hear this one.

  16. John Paul DeJoria- From Homeless to Billionaire

    Show notes

You can't change yesterday's newspaper, so why are you still carrying it around?

I have wanted to sit down with this man for so long. Imagine going from living in your car to building two multibillion dollar brands. It doesn't even sound real when you say it out loud. But that's not what I admire most about him. It's how he carries the success: with humility, generosity and kindness. So today I got out of the way and let him teach.

I've interviewed some of the top entrepreneurs on the planet, and I don't know that I've ever met a better communicator. This conversation is a masterclass, and I'm fired up for you to hear it.

John Paul DeJoria is the co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems and Patrón Spirits Company. He started Paul Mitchell with $700 and lived in his car to make it happen. Then he built Patrón into a brand selling millions of cases a year.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The Two Rules of Success: two rules to live by if you want to see more success in every area of your life.
    • You Can't Change Yesterday's Newspaper: Why he wouldn't change a single thing about the hard times, and how to move forward after hardship
    • Watch Your Words: Why saying "I'll try" keeps you trying forever, and how to break the pattern.
    • The Richest Man's Regret: What John Paul DeJoria said he would give up just to have been happy, and what that says about money.
    • Kindness Works, Even for Jerks: How humor and kindness disarms, and why you should never knock your competitor.

Whatever you're still carrying from yesterday, consider this your permission to put it down. I don't want you to just listen to this one. I want you to feel it, then go live it.

  17. 7 Reasons Why High Achievers Never Feel Satisfied | Ed Mylett

    Show notes

What if the success you’re chasing is actually keeping you from enjoying the life you’ve worked so hard to build?

In this mashup, we’re going straight at something I think every ambitious person needs to hear: the danger of becoming addicted to achievement. I want you to win. I want you to build the business, make the money, transform your body, impact people, and chase every dream God put in your heart. But if your happiness is always waiting on the other side of the next goal, you can spend your entire life achieving and never actually feel fulfilled. The answer isn’t to stop chasing greatness. It’s learning how to fall in love with the PROCESS while you’re becoming great.

Fallon Taylor opens up about what happened after she finally became a world champion and discovered that catching the dream didn’t magically fix everything. Her answer became growth and contribution, continuing to evolve while using what she learned to serve other people. Inky Johnson takes that idea even deeper with one of the most powerful definitions of courage I’ve heard: committing to the process when nobody can guarantee you the outcome. After his injury, he learned to stop needing the reward to justify the work and instead let his character, integrity, and commitment determine how he showed up.

Matthew McConaughey breaks down the difference between happiness and JOY, and why constantly moving the finish line can rob you of both. He shares how some of the greatest results of his career came when he stopped obsessing over the result and became completely immersed in the work. Dean Graziosi reminds us that money and achievement without fulfillment aren’t enough, and that we need to work on ourselves just as hard as we work on our businesses and our bank accounts. Inky comes back with another lesson I love: be where your feet are. Take the pictures. Have the fun. Build the memories. Don’t become so good at accomplishing things that you forget to actually EXPERIENCE your own life.

Then Rob Dyrdek gives you a masterclass on intentionally DESIGNING your life instead of simply cramming more into it. He breaks down how tracking his time, eliminating friction, creating systems, and constantly optimizing his schedule allowed him to accomplish more while protecting the parts of his life that bring him joy. Jesse Itzler brings it home with the courage to START before you’re ready. He built businesses in industries he knew almost nothing about because he trusted himself to get through the door and figure it out. His reminder is simple: you will never have enough experience, perfect timing, or every answer before you begin. And real success isn’t dominating one area of your life while everything else falls apart. It’s building winning habits across ALL the buckets that matter.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Why achievement can become an addiction and quietly steal your happiness
    • Fallon Taylor on finding fulfillment through growth and contribution after reaching the top
    • Inky Johnson on choosing process over product and committing without a guarantee of success
    • Matthew McConaughey on why joy is found in the doing, not at the finish line
    • Dean Graziosi on building yourself while you build your success
    • Why being present, having fun, and creating memories are part of a successful life
    • Rob Dyrdek’s approach to designing, tracking, and optimizing your time around the life you actually want
    • Jesse Itzler on starting before you’re ready and making yourself irreplaceable
    • Why true success means winning across multiple areas of your life, not just money or career

I want you to chase your dreams with everything you’ve got, but don’t miss your LIFE while you’re chasing them. Stop telling yourself, “When I get there, then I’ll be happy.” There will always be another mountain, another goal, another number, another finish line. The joy is in the ride. The fulfillment is in who you become and the people you impact along the way. Chase greatness, but make sure you’re actually alive enough to enjoy becoming great.

The best leaders want more FOR people than they want FROM them.

Season 2 of John Maxwell's 21 Laws of Leadership is in the books, and this one belongs to you. When you downloaded the workbook, you sent in your leadership questions, and over 10 thousand of them came in! John Maxwell and I went through them, and we answered the themes that kept coming up again and again.

My son Max brought your questions to the table, and what came out of the conversation is real, unscripted, and personal. Here are some of the questions you sent in:

    • What is the biggest problem with how people lead today?
    • What is the biggest thing you had to unlearn to level up your leadership?
    • How do you lead when nobody is listening?
    • How does a wife support her husband in becoming a better leader?

John has spent more than fifty years living what he teaches, and he has stood on a stage more than 14,000 times. He isn't polished about it. He tells you plainly about the seasons he led badly, and where he learned to look first when people stop listening.

I open up about the way I led in my twenties and the day I decided to talk less and ask more. I share the story of a ride home that changed how I see belief inside a marriage. I ask John a question I've never asked him, and his answer surprised even me.

The chemistry in this one is something you have to witness. We go back and forth like family around a kitchen table. Tune in to this powerful episode and then take the answer that hits you hardest and put it to work this week.

  19. How to Turn Customers Into Raving Fans with Savannah Bananas Owner Jesse Cole

    Show notes

Customers come and go. Fans will drive 40 hours just to be in the room with you.

I've wanted Jesse Cole on this show for a long time, and this conversation went further than I hoped. More than 4 million people are on a waitlist for a ticket to one of his games. He's drawn crowds bigger than the Super Bowl. And he's done it by obsessing over the thing I believe matters most as AI moves into every business: how people feel when they deal with you.

This was not an overnight success. Jesse's pro baseball dream ended with a torn shoulder. He spent ten years running a team almost nobody came to see. Then he and his wife, Emily, bet everything on a college summer team in Savannah, and in the first three months, they sold two tickets. What happened next became the Banana Ball Championship League and one of the great American business stories.

I asked him the question every entrepreneur in a hard season needs answered: why didn't you quit? I share what it felt like when my own baseball dream ended. I push back on founders who build companies just to sell them, and I explain why most big exits aren't what they look like. And I challenge Jesse on what separates great entrepreneurs: they keep improving even when everything is already working.

We finish with what Jesse and Emily are building off the field, and it may be the most powerful part of the whole conversation.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • Fans vs. Customers: Why one is transactional and the other will defend you when you make a mistake.
    • The Friction Question: The one question that sparked Banana Ball, and how it applies to a realtor, a dry cleaner, or any business.
    • Attention Beats Marketing: Why Jesse hasn't spent a dollar on marketing since opening night, and what he does instead.
    • The Energy List: How Jesse found what fuels him, and why it changed the way he shows up as a leader and a dad.
    • Lessons from Walt Disney: Two principles Jesse built his company on, including the one that explains why he won't sell.
    • Learn, Change, Plus: The nightly habit that keeps a sold-out business from ever getting comfortable.

Two tickets in three months. That's where this started. Whatever season you're in right now, get to the next day, then the next one. You are much closer to your dreams than you realize.

If I could only keep one skill out of everything I've built, this is the one.

I get asked all the time what skill matters most for an entrepreneur, and my answer never changes: the ability to persuade. Without it, most of what I have doesn't exist. And here's the hard truth I open this episode with. Most people are nowhere near as persuasive as they believe they are, and that belief is the very thing keeping them stuck.

So I brought together three of the most influential people I've ever sat across from. John Maxwell has trained leaders in every country on earth and sold more than 30 million books. Zoe Chance teaches one of the most popular courses at the Yale School of Management. Mauricio Umansky built The Agency into one of the biggest real estate brands on the planet, starting at the worst possible moment to start anything.I push each of them on the things most people never talk about.

I get honest with John about a part of leadership where I've always felt limited. I admit to Zoe the surprisingly small thing I'm still afraid to ask for. And I press Mo on what really happened before The Agency existed, a story I was surprised he was willing to tell.

I also lay out my own playbook: why energy moves people more than words, why you have to sell a dream big enough for everyone around you to fit inside, and a lesson my dad taught me as a kid that every closer needs to hear.

Here's what you'll gain from this episode:

    • The Question That Changes Everything: The one question Zoe teaches that opens doors you didn't know existed, and what happened when I asked it of myself.

    • Your Sweet Spot: How John realized he was in the wrong role for years, and how to find where you win.

    • The Emotional Moment: How Mo reads a room before a deal, and the one mistake that destroys the connection.

    • Rejection as Training: Why you should be hearing no a lot more often, and how to make it hurt less.

    • Scaling Your Influence: How to transfer the skill of persuasion to your team so it grows beyond you.

Everything you want is on the other side of someone saying yes: your business, your family, your team, even the person in the mirror. Stop checking the box like you've already mastered this and go get better at it.
