Now, standing on the other side, we’ve mapped out the exact process that restored our love, trust, and connection—a process we weren’t given but one we discovered through lived experience.
This podcast is our invitation to you: to walk this path with us, to challenge the norms, and to build a marriage that is passionate, open, honest, deeply connected, and full of life. No one told us it was possible—but we’re here to tell you: it absolutely is.
Join us on this journey. It’s not just about saving your marriage—it’s about creating one that’s stronger, richer, and more alive than ever.

Healing From Addiction Wasn’t Enough
Season 6, Episode 5
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, Brandon and Caitlyn reveal why stopping the addiction is only the first step. They break down the patterns that remain after the “leak in the boat” is fixed — passivity, lack of follow-through, emotional immaturity, and seeing your wife as a threat. The real transformation happens when a man comes home to himself through embodiment, ownership, and daily action. If you’ve quit acting out but still feel disconnected or intimidated, this episode shows the missing paradigm shift that needs to occur to rebuild trust in your relationship.

Why I Stopped Loving My Wife
Season 6, Episode 4
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into a hard but necessary question: How do you go from being deeply in love to not wanting to be around your spouse at all? Brandon and Caitlyn break down the stages of how love deteriorates — from the initial motivations that brought you together, to the unexamined baggage you both carried in, to the ways you responded when that baggage surfaced. They show how isolation, resentment, and seeking affirmation elsewhere turn a partner into an enemy, and they offer a clear path back through radical honesty, ownership, and daily action. If you’ve ever wondered how you ended up feeling this far apart, this episode maps the journey — and the way out.

Is It Okay to M*sturbate During Recovery?
Season 6, Episode 3
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into what masturbation and orgasm really represent in recovery, and why chasing the next release is never the same as healing. We unpack the difference between orgasm and union sex, why it was never a wife’s job to prevent temptation, and how arousal can be felt and enjoyed without needing to “finish.” You’ll hear why masturbation keeps the dissociative fantasy loop running, how it connects to childhood coping, and what to do with the urge instead. We also get into erectile dysfunction, performance pressure, and what it looks like to rebuild sex on honesty. The bottom line: sex is the byproduct of intimacy, and intimacy starts with getting every secret out.

The Number 1 Thing Causing Conflict in Your Relationship
Season 6, Episode 2
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, Brandon and Caitlyn name the real root of conflict in marriage — and it's not what most relationship resources are pointing at. Withholding your core truth creates disconnection, and that disconnection is what produces every argument about sex, money, time, parenting, and religion. They walk through the early years of conflict (including a video game story that's both hilarious and painfully relatable), explain why empathy worksheets and communication tools will never work when someone is living a double life, and share what changed in 2019 when everything came into the light. The conflict stopped. They also break down the psychological mechanism of making your spouse the enemy when she gets too close — and why the person you've been fighting against is the one person you actually want on your team.

• 03:29 – The Video Game Conflict: How hidden behaviors and dishonesty turned what seemed like a simple disagreement about video games into a much deeper issue.
• 07:50 – Sex, Time, and Money: Why every surface topic traces back to where your energy is actually going.
• 09:56 – Why Conventional Tools Fall Short: "I statements" and communication techniques can't fix a relationship built on withheld truth.

• 20:41 – Conflict Over Religious Beliefs: Why arguing about spirituality is usually distance in disguise, and what to align on first.

Controversial Marriage Advice That Could Save Your Relationship
Season 6, Episode 1
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, we touched on the marriage advice most couples are told to avoid—and why it may be exactly what helps a relationship move from surviving to thriving. Brandon and Caitlyn Doerksen challenge the idea that betrayal should be tolerated, pain should be minimized, or certain secrets are healthy to keep. Instead, they lay out four direct principles: raise your standards, express your pain, uncover every secret, and own your mess. The conversation explores why advice should be measured by the life and marriage of the person giving it, not just by credentials or authority. You’ll hear why a betrayed spouse’s high standards can become a relationship’s North Star, why validating pain is an opportunity for connection, and why real transformation becomes obvious through consistent action. This episode is a clear invitation to stop settling for a mediocre marriage and start building the relationship you actually believe is possible.

Season 5, Episode 8
Show notes

Brandon and Caitlyn break down the traits that destroy safety — passivity, anxiety, lack of follow-through, and a bag of secrets — and show why “nice guys” who hide things are anything but safe. They share how radical honesty, emotional mastery, and true presence transformed their marriage, and why your wife can’t respect a version of you that you don’t even respect yet. Stepping Down From Ministry to Save My Marriage
Season 5, Episode 7
Show notes
In this episode of the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into Brandon and Caitlyn’s story of stepping down from ministry to save their marriage. Brandon shares how his identity was completely wrapped up in being a pastor and missionary, creating a double life that allowed him to ignore his sexual brokenness and the pain in their relationship. They unpack spiritual bypassing, the high stakes of coming clean while in ministry, and how the “good Christian boy” facade kept real healing from occurring. This is a raw look at what happens when performance replaces authenticity — and the freedom that comes when you finally let the show stop. If your identity is tied to a role that’s costing your marriage, this episode will challenge everything you’re currently doing.

Did I Marry the Wrong Person?
Season 5, Episode 6
Show notes
In this episode of the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into one of the most common (and rarely talked about) mental escapes after marriage gets hard: “Did I marry the wrong person?” Brandon gets honest about how often he used that thought as a mental escape when things got hard, and Caitlyn shares how common (and damaging) this pattern is. They reframe the issue entirely — the problem is rarely the person you married. It’s usually the mess, the addiction, the dishonesty, and the lack of ownership. When you stop escaping and start healing, you often get a completely different version of your spouse. If you’ve ever wondered if life would be better with someone else, this episode will challenge and free you.

Why Your Wife Has So Many Questions
Season 5, Episode 4
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, Brandon and Caitlyn speak on one of the most common frustrations after betrayal: Why does my wife keep asking so many questions? They expose the strategies used to silence a wife's questions — labeling her insecure, codependent, controlling, and explain exactly who those labels are actually protecting. They break down the two types of questions betrayed spouses ask (rhetorical and detailed) and show what it looks like to respond with genuine curiosity. Brandon role-plays the hardest question, "Do you even love me?" And Caitlyn shares how, seven years later, she can say without flinching: every question was worth it.

Show notes
In this episode of the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into why so many people stay stuck even after years of trying to overcome addiction. If you’ve been consuming information, checking boxes, and still not seeing change, this episode will show you what’s missing and how to finally get traction.

• 10:14 – The Split Personality: How white-knuckling creates a “good boy/bad boy” split and why it’s fully healable.

The Hidden Motivators Behind Addiction and Affairs
Season 5, Episode 2
Show notes
In this episode of the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into the hidden motivators behind addiction and affairs. Brandon and Caitlyn explain why these patterns are never random — they almost always begin in childhood, stemming from loneliness, desensitization, lack of emotional regulation, and disconnection. They unpack approval-seeking behavior, the shame loop that keeps people stuck, and the powerful difference between a dissociative childhood and one filled with emotional presence and awareness. You’ll learn why collecting the “puzzle pieces” of your story is essential, how curiosity replaces shame, and why creating a life you actually love is the real antidote to addiction. If you’ve ever wondered how you got here, this episode will help you see it clearly and choose a new path.

• 07:26 – Childhood Desensitization: How stolen innocence in childhood makes the safety of marriage feel foreign and why we sabotage back to what's familiar.
• 10:35 – Two Pictures of Childhood: The subtle chaos of screens, stashes, and absent-but-present parents versus a home of connection, nature, and being seen.
• 17:03 – Approval-Seeking & Emotional Regulation: How the desperate need for external validation and the inability to feel feelings fuel the cycle.
• 21:00 – Life Fulfillment as the Missing Piece: Why cultivating a life of purpose and creativity removes the need for counterfeit dopamine hits like pornography.
• 25:26 – The Shame Loop: How shame — not the addiction itself — is often the primary motivator keeping people trapped in the same cycle of hiding, acting out, and repeating.
• 28:10 – Collecting the Puzzle Pieces: Caitlyn introduces the puzzle piece framework — why collecting every element of your story is what allows you to see it all clearly and heal it.
• 32:23 – Radical Responsibility: Acknowledging addiction as a chosen response (rather than something that “happened” to you) is the key to freedom.
• 34:58 – Terrified to Remember: Why people dismiss looking back at their story — not because it's unimportant, but because they're scared to see it clearly, and why remembering is 100% necessary to healing.

Show notes
In this episode of the Grounded Union Podcast, we dive deep into the three stages every healing marriage must pass through: pre-discovery, post-discovery, and thriving. Brandon and Caitlyn map out why the pre-discovery phase is a slow death of denial and blame, why post-discovery is never about winning back trust or silencing the questions, and what it actually feels like to arrive at thriving. Brandon shares the Impact Letter — a three-part exercise for finally seeing what you did, who it made you become, and how it wounded the people you love. And Caitlyn takes on the polygraph and therapeutic disclosure industry head-on, explaining why a master storyteller can pass a lie detector and why the "little uglies" are the root of every big betrayal.

• 00:03:53 – The Mind Games of "I'm Not Lying": Omitting details, swapping definitions, keeping secrets — all the ways people convince themselves they're not technically lying.
• 00:05:24 – The Power of Female Intuition: Why the betrayed spouse almost always senses something is off.

• 00:17:55 – The Double Life: How addiction, approval-seeking, and denial create two completely different versions of a person.
• 00:26:37 – Why the Details Matter: Brandon shares what it felt like to finally come clean and realize he'd never known what living from his authentic self felt like.
• 00:30:32 – Seeing the Details Is Part of Healing: Knowing the full story isn't a confession session — it's both spouses finally tracing the patterns and understanding how they got here.
• 00:33:14 – Massive Screen Time: Why phone dependency and dissociation go hand in hand with dishonesty and why lying about screen use signals something larger.

Rethinking Lust & Attraction
Season 4, Episode 6
Show notes
In this episode, we speak on one of the most controversial conversations in marriage: lust, attraction, and what it actually means to be "wired" a certain way. Brandon and Caitlyn dismantle the cultural and religious narratives telling men they are helplessly attracted to women who aren't their wives — and offer a completely different framework: attraction is connection. From the reticular activating system to social media's role in training the brain, to Caitlyn's unforgettable dinner-table role-play of the "count to three" rule, this episode is equal parts raw, funny, and deeply liberating. Brandon shares his own 30-day rewiring experience and what changed when he chose radical honesty over a lifetime of trained sexual brokenness. If you've been told that lust is your God-given burden to manage, this episode will challenge everything you thought you knew.

• 00:05:10 – Attraction is Connection: Caitlyn introduces the core argument that what we call attraction is actually rooted in connection, not physical appearance, using real stories of couples who weren't initially attracted to each other.
• 00:10:39 – The Cost of Leaky Sexual Energy: Why objectifying others drains vitality and creates insecurity and disconnection.
• 00:13:03 – The Reticular Activating System (RAS): Brandon breaks down how the brain's awareness system is trained to look for what you've told it is important, and why the algorithm of your explore page works the same way your brain does.

• 00:20:54 – Sensuality vs. Hypersexuality: Brandon describes what their actual daily life looks like, centering life around connection and sensual pleasure, and why that leaves no room for objectification.
• 00:25:06 – The Glance-But-Don't-Gaze Culture: Dismantling the three-second rule, the "bounce your eyes" teaching, and the male Christian leader video that called noticing other women a "God-given gift.”
• 00:37:18 – Caitlyn's Challenge: Tell Your Wife Every Time: Caitlyn's most direct argument: if glancing at other women is truly holy and harmless, tell your spouse every single time it happens — and see how many days your marriage survives that experiment.

The Validation Your Wife Is Desperate For
Season 4, Episode 5
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, Brandon and Caitlyn reveal the kind of validation your wife is truly desperate for after betrayal — and why most common approaches actually make things worse. True validation isn't about relating your own story or trying to fix her pain. It's about genuinely understanding her lived experience — and it's something only you can give her. Caitlyn shares the raw pain of feeling like her entire life was a lie, and what it costs a wife to keep pulling truth from a numb, hollow spouse. Brandon breaks down what doesn't work (defending, correcting, empty apologies) and walks through the Validation Flow — a practical, heartfelt approach to listening, reflecting, and staying curious. If you're ready to move beyond surface-level interactions and offer the deep, consistent understanding that your wife is crying out for, this episode is for you.

• 00:09:19 – The Pain of Betrayal: Brandon and Caitlyn describe the profound disorientation and feeling of a shattered reality that betrayed spouses experience.

• 00:19:16 – The Golden Ticket to Validation: Brandon delivers the core principle — genuine curiosity about your wife's lived experience is the most validating thing you can offer, and introduces the idea of limiting voices to only those who can hold space without advice.
• 00:24:44 — What is NOT Validating: Brandon outlines common unhelpful responses from the betrayer, including empty apologies, repeating phrases robotically, defending, minimizing, or justifying their actions.
• 00:33:44 – Why "Therapeutic Separation" Backfires: Caitlyn breaks down why being told to separate during a crisis often just shifts all the responsibility onto the betrayed spouse.
• 00:39:50 – The Validation Flow: The three-step framework — listen, reflect back her emotions, and ask "what else" — that replaces defending, minimizing, and silence.
• 00:43:18 – Validation is Not Approval-Seeking: They emphasize that validation is not about getting a gold star or convincing your spouse of your change; it’s about genuine curiosity and leaning into their pain.
• 00:44:30 – Embodiment and Showing Up: Why getting into your body allows you to meet your wife’s pain instead of shutting down. -

How Sexual Addiction Creates Insecure Men
Season 4, Episode 4
Show notes
This week on the Grounded Union Podcast, Brandon and Caitlyn unpack the real reason sexual addiction makes men insecure — and it's not what you'd expect. Brandon breaks down why blaming others for your addiction shrinks your sense of control over your entire life, and explains the energetic loop that masturbation and porn can never close, no matter how good it feels in the moment. They introduce two identities every man in recovery needs to embody at once — the man who wounded his wife, and the man most qualified on the planet to help her heal — and explain why convincing your spouse you've changed is actually a sign you haven't. If you've ever felt small, ashamed, or powerless after a betrayal came to light, this episode hands you the exact mindset shift that turns shame into radical ownership.

• 00:00:26 – Intro: Brandon introduces episode 4, framing how sexual addiction strips away a man's inner knowing, creates a hollow identity, and keeps him trapped in damage control.
• 00:01:53 – The Powerless Mentality and the Dog Analogy: Why shrinking back, getting small, and playing the victim after getting caught is the opposite of what real ownership looks like.
• 00:05:28 – 100% Responsibility, 100% Solution: How blaming others or your wife keeps you stuck and why owning everything changes the game.
• 00:07:52 – The Open Loop of Sexual Addiction: Why masturbating to a screen gives nothing back — and how real sexual intimacy with a spouse creates connection, security, and vitality that addiction never can.
• 00:14:52 – Letting Go of Approval-Seeking: Brandon unpacks how his addiction was rooted in seeking approval and avoiding conflict, and why he no longer needed Caitlyn's validation to take ownership of his healing.
• 00:18:34 – You Never Have to Convince Someone of the Truth: Caitlyn powerfully states that if you have to convince your spouse of your change, it's not real; true transformation is embodied and seen, not sold.
• 00:23:04 – Is It Abuse If She Calls Me Names? Brandon addresses the concept of "reactive abuse," urging men to embrace their wife's raw, unfiltered pain as a gift, not something to suppress.
• 00:29:50 – Two Identities Every Betraying Spouse Must Carry: The framework of being both the wounder of your wife and the greatest advocate for her healing
• 00:32:19 – Three Reasons People Stay Powerless: Caitlyn lays out the three root causes of staying stuck: not believing you can heal, not wanting to heal, and still hiding more than you've disclosed.
• 00:40:45 – For the Single and Separated: How to channel sexual energy when there's no spouse
• 00:46:02 – Nudity is Not Sexual; Sex Is: Brandon clarifies that a naked body is not inherently sexual; it's the relational act of sex that creates connection, and a rewired brain doesn't sexualize everything.
