The Heavy Hitter DJs Podcast

Houston in the house. DJ Aggravated started in 1985 on belt drives in his dad's garage, cracked the mic at Magic 102 with 1.5 million people listening, and made slab tapes loud enough to rattle MacGregor Park. Plus record shopping next to DJ Premier, the name that almost was Aggravated Assault, and the night the Heavy Hitters brought him in like it was the mob.

DJ Eddie One has worked every shift on LA radio except midday. Street promoter first, late-blooming DJ second, he flew home from Puerto Rico in 2005 with a bag of reggaeton CDs and built a lane nobody else on the West Coast had. Now he runs mornings on Mega 96.3, streams the whole show from a shipping container in his backyard, and DJs for LAFC.

DJ Ryan Wolf never planned to be a DJ. Church soundboard kid. Chopped and screwed hustler. Top salesman told he didn't look the part. He kept the beard, filled in for a friend one night, and ended up on Z107.9, in the ChopStars, and on the field as the first official DJ in Cleveland Browns history.

DJ Carlito wanted in for fourteen years and chased it for six. He covered overnights for $14 an hour, worked 23 days straight, and kept saying yes until La Mega 97.9 handed him afternoons. The fellas get the whole run, from carrying speakers in Bushwick to the promise he made at Remy Lounge.

Laura Stylez moved to New York with no family, three jobs, and one plan: get on the radio in the number one market. Twenty-seven years later she's a Heavy Hitter, a 12-year morning show voice, and independent with Ebro and Rosenberg. Camilo and L. Boogs get the whole run, from answering Monie Love's phones to telling Enuff she was booked more than his DJs.

Coro King hid in a freezer so a Providence bar could keep its DJ. Then he built a streaming following that flies in to see him and books him for Thanksgiving. Born in East New York, made in Rhode Island, rebuilding in Miami. Enuff, Camilo, Kast One, and L. Boogs get the whole story.

DJ SpinKing was supposed to be a pediatric doctor. His grandfather practiced medicine in Guyana, SpinKing interned at Englewood Hospital for two years, then he crashed his brother Celeb's car at 16, got grounded, and found the CDJs in the basement. His parents did not approve. They told his brother Star that if SpinKing failed, it was on him. He sits with DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, DJ Kast One and L. Boogs and walks through all of it: the Jersey hotel ballrooms they got thrown out of, two years on the road with Diggy at 18, ProStyle playing "Tap It" while he was still on the high school basketball team, "Timeless" and the 6ix9ine record charting at the same time, opening Madison Square Garden for Cardi B, and the night he DJed Pasha with no mic. Jessy and Uly Terrero built a two-decade run out of closed doors. Juice, 25 videos with 50 Cent, Rompe, Un Beso, Soul Plane, Nicky Jam: El Ganador. It starts with a lie about lost car keys and an 8 1/2 hour drive to Canada on caffeine pills.

DJ Sharad walked into his first meeting with DJ Enuff holding a 12-page PowerPoint. Graphs. Charts. His wife made him do it. Enuff spent the next few years quietly terrified of him. This week the Heavy Hitters get the whole story, plus the $10,000 studio design a rapper took and had AI rebuild.

The fantastic trio. Kast One, Enuff and Camilo hold it down while L. Boogs defends his title as the greatest ghost in the game.

Enuff watched Fuerza Regida turn Citi Field into a hip hop show, 50 Cent and Bobby Shmurda included. Camilo unplugged in Aruba, climbed 740 steps in Guatapé, and came home to run earthquake relief for Colombia. Kast One jumped into Antarctic water in swim trunks, because his wife went first and everybody was watching.

Then Complex left Big Daddy Kane off the greatest beats list, and nobody in this room is getting over it.

Before Miami, before Cash Money, DJ E Feezy was a summer-school kid who talked his way into a BET internship and straight up stole the Heavy Hitter drop. He pulls up with DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, DJ Kast One, and L. Boogs to trace the whole run: the checklist that earned his co-sign, the Louisville night he dodged a bullet, and the leap from the booth to A&R. Blame Enuff.

The-Dream pulls up to the Heavy Hitter DJs Podcast, and he came to talk his craft. The hit maker behind "Umbrella," a catalog of Beyoncé records, and Love Hate 2 breaks down why he's not afraid of AI, the eight-year-old DJ story that ended his career on his mom's Salt-N-Pepa record, and how you build a legacy brick by brick. Longtime music exec Yvette "Evie" Dávila joins the room with the stories only she can tell.

DJ Yonny has had about five careers. Power 105 and La Calle at the same time. Dance radio with Star and Buc Wild. Top 40, TV, international. Then he walked away from all of it to produce in LA, met Poo Bear by accident, and built a Latin party in Hollywood nobody thought would work. Now he's in Colombia making records with Afro Latin artists and coaching DJs on how to do the same thing. He sits with DJ Kast One, L. Boogs and DJ Wallah and covers the parts nobody talks about: living in his recording studio, showering at the gym, and building an Airbnb business so he'd never wait on a promoter to pay him again. Hollyhood Bay Bay pulls up to the Heavy Hitter DJs Podcast, and Part 1 is all origin story. From private school and the marching band press box in Shreveport to the radio booth, the club, and the night "A Bay Bay" was born, he breaks down how one man learned to move a whole room without ever raising his voice. High energy, real talk, and the roots of an entertainer the South already knew.

DJ Bonics has run with Wiz Khalifa as his tour DJ for over 15 years. He came up in Philly, learned the craft in Pittsburgh, and walked away from a full-time radio job to bet on the road. He sits with DJ Kast One, DJ Enuff, and DJ Camilo to talk about sharing the stage without losing yourself, doing your homework in rooms from Shanghai to Hamburg, and lasting in a young man's game. Community over ego.

The King taps in. T.I. joins the Heavy Hitter DJs to talk Kill the King, the final album he named back in 2001, and why the title is really about killing the ego, not closing the door. He gets into 25 years in the game, American Gangster and Denzel, working with Chris Robinson and Hype Williams, raising Damani and King, the Pharrell sessions, and an NBA Youngboy mentorship that turned into a record. Then Enuff, Camilo, Kast One, and L. Boogs break down a united New York: the Knicks, the parade, and World Cup summer. Kill the King drops June 26.

DJ Wallah pulls up to the Heavy Hitter DJs podcast. The Newark native built his own lane before anyone handed him one, throwing his own parties as a teenager when the top DJs had every booking locked up. He breaks down how Jersey club broke out of Brick City and went on to shape some of the biggest records in the country, the 20,000 flyers a month that put him on Raymo and Lonnie B's radar, and the co-sign from Mr. C and DJ Enuff that made him a Heavy Hitter. He gets into his first nervous night on Hot 97, becoming the official DJ for the New York Giants, the Branson lives that pulled in 50 Cent, his ties to Naughty by Nature, and why every DJ coming out of Jersey still has to talk to the guy with the W. DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, DJ Kast One, and L. Boogs sit down with the man who put Jersey on his back.

Buju Banton pulls up to the Heavy Hitter DJs podcast. The reggae and dancehall legend breaks down his new album Too Too Bad, out July 17 on VP Records, the Butterflies single, and why he split the record into three separate rollouts for CD, vinyl, and streaming. He gets into the 90s New York scene when reggae and hip hop ran hand in hand, the philosophy that keeps him reinventing himself across four decades, the Kanye record that came together during COVID, his tribute to Mr. Bogle, and the boys home he funds back in Jamaica. DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, DJ Kast One, and L. Boogs sit down with one of the most enduring voices in the music.

Rene McLean, aka RPM, is one of the architects most people never hear about. He put DJ Enuff on, broke records at Virgin, RCA and Electra, started rapping the vans before anyone else, and built the Mix Show Power Summit into the industry monster Jay-Z name dropped years later. He also ran the two room office on 38th Street where the Heavy Hitters, the record pool, the magazine and Dipset mixtapes all happened at once. This week he sits with L. Boogs, DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, and DJ Kast One to walk the whole run, from a $30 a week internship to buying catalogs with BlackRock. Tap in.
