Called in Sick to the Emo List Factory
Show notes
On this episode the kings take a look at the music genre and subculture known as EMO and dissect a bit of the Top 200 Emo Albums list by the website Emokidsanonymous. I can't include a link because my ISP is telling me the website is not secure and not chill to go to so maybe at some point they fix that BUT you can hear about it on this episode and hear our discussion of a few of the albums included.

The Third Wave of Ska
Show notes
The Kings have grabbed their boogie boards to ride the third wave of Ska and explore all that it has to offer from sunny California all the way to the rough and tumble streets of Boston. While this era is oft maligned (particularly when we get to the 90s) its important to take a moment to smell the roses rather than focus on the thorns and we hope you, our wonderful listeners, will find something in this episode you will enjoy! We almost exclusively discuss the US Scenes here so if you have anything we might have missed from elsewhere, let us know!

Intro to Ska pt. 2 - Two Tone
Show notes
The Kings travel in time and space from the 60s in Jamaica to the late 70s in the UK to tackle what is now known as the second wave of Ska. Part revival, part new school twist, the sounds and scene quickly captivated the country. While the trend was fairly brief even compared to punk, it laid the foundation for what many people would think of when they heard the phrase Ska.

Intro to Ska - The First Wave
Show notes
SKATEMBER IS HERE! The Kings make their way down to Jamrock to explore the history and roots of Ska. While lots of people think of this music as the sound a kid hears when their mozzarella sticks arrive at Chili's, the history and culture surrounding it have had huge reverberations in music globally and it deserves more recognition.

#Dramaalert
Show notes
This might not be a super interesting episode to most but there has been some "Drama" regarding our local scene that we simply had to discuss it but there are some great gems in this episode that we think stands up to our strict entertainment standards for our audience. Will this bother some people? Perhaps, but please feel free to LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW about how you feel and we can talk about it. We try and bring a neutral and level-headed approach to a semi-serious issue and we hope you the listeners wherever you may be can appreciate that and take what we say into the world to foster a better future.

City to City - Lincoln Nebraska
Show notes
Continuing their City to City series the Kings hitch a ride from the i90 to the i80 and stop in The Star City. Lincoln may not come to mind when talking about the history of punk and hardcore but underneath there is a surprising history of bands and connections to the broader scene. Thanks to Jim Jones and his zine Capitol Punishment for documenting a cool piece of punk history!

The Dicks Love Big Boys
Show notes
In the city of Rochester we celebrate Pride Month in July, and to do that we covered two bands that we feel are very important in regards to not just LGBT visibility but punk and hardcore; Dicks and Big Boys. Both hailing from Austin TX, we feel they've flown under the radar for the new generation and they deserve the spotlight back on them again.

Going Bananas for Operation Ivy
Show notes
After a hectic day of rocking and Internet Hardcore Discourse™ we sit down to discuss a beloved and still influential band from the west coast, Operation Ivy. The 924 Gilman luminaries brought an interesting sound to the era of youth crew, crossover and thrash metal were reigning supreme but the band ended as quickly as it started. Despite this they left a lasting impact on punk rock and we figured it was time to cover it. Might have to do an episode on Two Tone soon, let us know if you want us to pick it up!

Rolling Stone Keep On Moving...
Show notes
Rolling Stone magazine shocked the world when they released their 100 Greatest Punk albums list recently and the Kings had to do their due diligence and take a look over. However as fun (and long winded) as it would be to analyze every single choice they decided to use this opportunity to listen to some things they were unfamiliar with and report back with their thoughts. Is this list full of crap or are people just being too harsh? Let us know!
