Nananananananana… Batman! Another b-side and a single that only includes remixes up next! I Love U in Me backed the Arms of Orion and The Future single included just two tracks: remixes of The Future and Electric Chair by William Orbit and Mark Moore. Do we love it? Listen and know!

Nananananananana… Batman! The Scandalous Sex Suite is an epic journey that Prince took, at least in part, with Kim Basinger. And we loved the connection in the lyrics between Scandalous and it’s super fun b-side, Sex.

Nananananananana… Batman! The Partyman single was full of fun remixes by Femi Jiya and Prince himself, which is always a treat. A reworked 1999 track, Feel U Up, is the b-side and an unreleased mix by the Godfather of House Music and this is big fun!

Nananananananana… Batman! The first single from the soundtrack was Batdance, a surprise #1 hit. A couple officially released mixes, the B-side 200 Balloons, and a couple unreleased mixes were fun to discuss.

Nananananananana… Batman! Prince was invited to participate with the 1989 Batman film and jumped in with both feet. There’s lots of background to learn about how the project came about, how happy the participants were, and some struggles. All that AND the first four songs of the album on this episode!

As we round out our coverage of the Musicology era, we can’t leave out the release of the EP/album C-NOTE and a “homeless” track, GlassCutter. All in all, a fun way to put a bow on this time period.

The aftershow was a rich part of Prince’s life as a performer. His epic and lengthy concerts weren’t enough and smaller venues with a variable set list pleased Prince and the audience. We check out a few songs from Prince aftershows in February 2004 at The Fillmore and March 2004 at Club Black.

Oh, and happy 200th episode to us!

Prince did a TON of promotion before and during the Musicology tour, but most didn’t include a performance with the interview. In 2004, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Canada’s MuchMoreMusic Live! both had fun performances and relaxed interviews so we have chosen to cover them here.

Prince monopolized the show when he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in early March 2004. Not only did he sit for a delightful interview but he played a bunch of songs, both aired and unaired.

Prince has stated that he was interested in doing an MTV Unplugged episode, but end up doing The Art of Musicology instead. A combo of big band performances and Prince on a stool with an acoustic guitar, this multi-channel special showcased a range of talents.

Musicology had B-sides for its singles - even if some were “virtual” or region specific. To add to the original confusion, the B-sides were finally released to streaming on Musicology’s 20th anniversary… but as alternate versions. We talk about those, and threw in one more song just for fun.
