  2. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #99: Wayne Once Shot Color

    Episode 99

    Show notes

It's late September, and the leaves in much of North America are finally beginning to show their fall colors. Perhaps this helped inspire Shutter Brother Wayne to open his box of beautiful 4x5 color transparencies (yes, Wayne once shot color!) and lay them out on the light table and think about how to scan them. Since Wayne has never before scanned film, he would really like some help from our faithfull listeners.

Recently, Wayne visited a local estate sale that featured some photography gear, included somthing at Wayne hoped to bring home. And he would have succeded if it hadn't been for that breakfast sandwhich he stopped for on the way. Nevertheless, he did come away with several interesting items with "Hasselblad" on them. Listen to find out what they are.

Next, Kevin discusses a photo book that left him confused after the first and second time through. The book is Skogen by Robert Adams, a photographer near and dear to Kevin's heart. Listen to find out what happened on the third pass.

The 5th Annual Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers is scheduled for Saturrday, October 24, in Huntsville, Alabama. Wayne and Kevin would love to see you there, and you an see all the details here.

Happy Photography everyone! Now go get some good pictures!

  9. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #92: Enter the Hasselblad

    Episode 92

    Show notes

The Shutter Brothers are back, and Kevin has a new light meter to discuss - the KEKS M Light Meter for Leica M cameras. The meter is based on the hansome and functional Leica MR Meter (which Kevin also owns), but the electronics and display are greatly updated to make a good user experience. Kevin's thoughts here are first impressions - no pictures yet - so stay tuned for a full review.

Meanwhile, the Shutter Bros' interest in 6x6 cameras continues as Kevin compares his recent experience with a Rolleiflex 2.8D with his own Rolleicord Va. The Rolleiflex has things going for it for certain, but Kevin's recent experiences with his Rolleicord havr been very successful. So what happens when a Hasselblad 500 C/M gets added to the mix?

Wayne's show continues at The Arts Center in Athens, Tennessee through May 22. Go see it if you can.

  11. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #90: Everyone Needs a Filter (Or Do They?)

    Episode 77

    Show notes

In this episode, Wayne and Kevin work through the subject of filters for film phtography. In the old days , filters were the next gear the camera store sales person tried to sell you after a camera and lenses. But are the that important? How often does Wayne (who has been shooting large format photography for over four decades) put a filter in front of his lens? You will be surprised by his answer. Nevertheless, filters have their place, and the right filter at the right time and place can make or break a picture (just ask Ansel Adams).

Next, Kevin shares a tale of woe regarding a few rolls of Kentmere 400 that he recently shot and deveoped with the same workflow he's followed for years with other films. It seems that reading and following the instructions for each brand of film is much more important than Kevin had thought.

Don't forget that Wayne had a major retrospective show of fifty years of photography coming up. You can find the details here.

There is more involved with the process that you can imgagine.

The show wraps up with some listener email and recognition of listeners who have supported the show financially. Thank you!

  13. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #88: It's Hip to Be Square

    Episode 88

    Show notes

The Shutter Brothers are back with a big surprise! Wayne is shooing a 6x6 cm twin lens reflex camera ("I never thought it would happen," said an astonished Kevin). 14. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #87: Slow or Fast, It's All About the Print

    Episode 87

    Show notes

The Shutter Brothers are back in 2026 and ready to make a show about the joy of darkroom printing. So, after a morning printing session at the new Safelight District Community Darkroom, Wayne and Kevin are ready to share tips on how to make more and better prints from your negatives. Along the way they discuss different approaches to making test strips, which can not only save time and money, but also help get the best image on paper. Also, in response to a listener question, Wayne explains how split grade printing can be used to dial in the right amount of exposure in both highlight and shadow areas.

Meanwhile, Kevin is interested in a different sort of printing: Poloaroid instant photography. He recently tried to use his beloved SX-70 SONNAR One Step for some holiday fun, but he could not find his neutral density filter that enables him to shoot Polaroid 600 film instead of the SX-70 film the camera was build to use. And while Tori Fyth Elliot, the owner of Safelight District Community Darkroom, was able to save the day by loaning Kevin a Polaroid 600 camera to use, Kevin is giving serious thought to having his SX-70 SONNAR serviced and modified to natively shoot 600 film. Listen to the show to hear all the advantages of this.

It's a new year, and Wayne and Kevin are already thinking about the 5th Annual Photowalk with the Shutter Brothers. If you live in the southeastern Unitted States and would like to suggest a location for this year's photowalk, send them to us at unclejonesyscameras@gmail.com.

  19. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #82: Triptych the Light Fantastic

    Episode 82

    Show notes

After an early summer break, Wayne and Kevin have film to develop, prints to make, and project to pursue. Kevin's project has been making contact print triptychs using one of the cheapest new cameras availbable today, the "Plastic Filmtastic" Debonair 120 from the Film Photography Store. This $20 camera often gets compared with the legandary Holga, but it is not the same camera. While the Debonair also has a plastic lens, Kevin believes that it makes better photographs than the Holga while still producing vintage vignetting effects. However, what really separates the Debonair from the Holga is that the Debonair makes 6x4.5cm rectangle images (as opposed to the Holga's 6x6cm square images). Inspired by Wayne's idea of using his Fuji GS645 camera as a medium format 'half-frame' camera, Kevin began photography old business signs with his Debonair with an eye toward contact printing three images on a singel 4x6 postcard. It's still in the 'proof-of-concept' stage, but the possibilities are real indeed!

Meahwhile, Wayne empties out the UJC mailbag and reads some great listener feedback. And finally, the Shutter Brothers discuss the Great Film Photo Meetup Chattanooga, which happens on Saturday and Sunday, August 9-10.

  20. Uncle Jonesy's Cameras Podcast #81: You Should Have Been There

    Episode 81

    Show notes

The Shutter Brothers are waxing nostalgic about the old days of local camera and photography shops - and that's easy for them to do, because Kevin spent many happy hours hanging out in them, and Wayne actually work in and owned one. All we can say is "you should have been there," because it was a magical as you would expect - if you are as crazy about cameras as we are.

The official start of summer is just days away, and both Wayne and Kevin are thinking about travel photography and (of course) travel film cameras. So, Wayne gives a run down of his recent acquistion the Fuji GS645 Professional Wide 60 medium format rangefinder camera and how it might be a good choice for travel photography. Meanwhile, Kevin is preparing for his first ever trip to California by choosing a camera to take along. You guessed it, it's his Leica M2. What is your go to travel film camera?

The Shutter Brothers are excited about a photowalk that will take place in Chattanooga on August 9-12 involving many of your favorite film photography podcasters. Listen for details. Oh, and we also give away a Minolta Maxxum XTsi AF 35mm AF camera complete with a Minolta AF 35-70mm f4 zoom lens.
