    Episode 28

    Show notes

Eggy keyboardist Dani Battat graciously answers 20 questions from Justin Bruce in this wide-ranging conversation. Topics discussed include Tom Corn Walker banter, the Mets, inspirational musicians, van problems while touring, the hardest song in the Eggy repertoire for Dani to play, the original idea for Halloween 2025 (which was not The Ballad of Blucifer), and what the band is thinking about when they're jamming. Special thanks to Jake Brownstein for contributing a few pop-quiz queries for Dani.

  3. Reflections

    Episode 27

    Show notes

Justin Bruce takes a big-picture look at what makes an Eggy show "good," discussing three factors he considers when assessing a show. He dips into the numbers to illustrate a pivot the band might consider. Then he walks listeners through shows from July and August (with jam clips) and explains why certain nights hit harder than others (to him). It's not as judgmental as it sounds!

  5. Eggy 101 with J.M. Hart

    Episode 25

    Show notes

Justin Bruce is joined by longtime internet pal and newly-minted Eggy fan J.M. Hart in Episode 25. They listen through the Nugs Live 101: Eggy playlist to discuss the band from the perspective of someone (Jonathan) who's just getting into our favorite Connecticut foursome.

Jonathan was a part of Helping Friendly Podcast for many years, and simultaneously hosted the fantastic Brokedown Podcast. These days, he's busy releasing great original music; it's been said that his work walks the line between “country-tinged singer-songwriter fare and cosmic Americana.” Check out his latest release: Turned Around, on Bandcamp.

Justin and Jonathan have crossed paths on different pods over the years, including Deeper Listening Podcast episode 8 Eyes of the World with Jonathan Hart and Brokedown Podcast episode 73 Celebrating Brent Mydland with Justin Bruce.

Toward the end of the conversation, Jonathan mentions a few recent albums he's been digging:

Albumen - s/t, on Bandcamp (Justin missed the joke about albumen being the technical term for an egg white, but can attest that this album rules)

Jeffrey Alexander + The Heavy Lidders - Synchronous Orbit, on Bandcamp

Winged Wheel - Desert So Green, on Bandcamp

  9. Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers

    Episode 21

Justin Bruce recaps Eggy's five shows opening for Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers. Cross-pollination was plentiful during this dreamy run, be it Eggy with Bruce, Bruce with Eggy, or members of the Noisemakers (Gibb Droll and John Mailander) with Eggy.

Four albums I'd recommend for anyone new to Bruce Hornsby: 1993's Harbor Lights, 2000's Here Come the Noisemakers, 2011's Bride of the Noisemakers, and 2019's Absolute Zero. Here are my notes re: the 19 Bruce Hornsby albums I listened to to familiarize myself with his catalog.

Brian compiled his 50 favorite 2024 Eggy jams and categorized them into five separate tiers. See the full list below! In a similarly nerdy fashion, Justin penned 170 entries in 2024 for the Eggy Jam Chart on TheCarton.Net. 20. Eggy Covers

    Episode 10

    Show notes

Justin Bruce welcomes Brian Wolf back to the pod to discuss our favorite Eggy covers. Next, we highlight cover sets the band has played over the years. Lastly, we sheepishly suggest future cover choices (starts around 1:08 into episode). This episode includes 31 Eggy clips, each about 1 minute in length, and 9 clips of possible covers, so kick back and relax.

Here's a Nugs.net playlist from Brian of most of the covers and cover sets we, um, cover in this episode.

At the end of the episode, Justin mentions the great Flowers on the Stage podcast, which recently published an episode with Alex, following Jake's appearance in January. Both are recommended!
