159 - Can You Have a Wedding for $10,000? A Realistic Budget Breakdown
Episode 159
Show notes
Can you really have a wedding for $10,000? Sure...but not by simply shrinking an average wedding.
In this episode, I walk you through how to build a $10K wedding budget around what matters most to you: setting your priorities, breaking down your Big Picture Number, and why so many wedding costs don’t change with your guest count. Plus, I compare two couples with the same $10,000 and completely different weddings.
In this episode:
• Why the average wedding cost won’t help you plan
• How to use your priorities to build a $10,000 budget
• The costs that change with your guest count (and the ones that don’t)
• Two sample $10K budgets for two very different couples
• The mistakes that make a smaller budget really hard, plus ways to stretch itRead the full breakdown: planningcollective.com/10000-wedding-budget

Episode 158

Most first vendor calls go the same way: “Are you available?” and “How much is it?” In this episode, I’m sharing the questions that actually help you decide who to book, including the ones most couples don’t think to ask until something goes wrong.
In this episode:
• How to prepare for vendor calls (and why you only need to talk to your top three)
• Five questions to ask every single vendor
• The make or break questions for your venue, caterer, photographer, DJ, and planner
• Good signs and red flags to listen forGet the full list: questions for all 13 types of wedding vendors at planningcollective.com/vendorquestions

157 - Wedding Planner vs. Day of Coordinator: Which One Do You Actually Need?
Episode 157
Show notes
Wedding planner, wedding coordinator, day of coordinator, venue coordinator. Do you need one? All of them? None of them?
This week I saw a bride on Reddit ask someone to explain it to her like she's five, and over 20 people answered. A lot of them were wedding pros, and almost every answer was different. So if you're confused, it's not you. Even our industry can't agree on this one.
In this episode, I'm refreshing one of my classic topics. I walk through each type of planning help, what it really includes, when to book, and how to figure out which one fits your wedding. I also share the story of a couple who booked their venue first and ended up losing their band budget because of it, and why I always recommend booking your planner before anything else.
In this episode:
• The Reddit post that started it all: "Explain this to me like I'm five"
• Two different problems: "we're going to miss something" vs. "we don't want to be in charge of the day"
• What a wedding planner actually does (sorry, J.Lo)
• The two big hesitations: cost and giving up control
• Why the titles are so confusing, and why I still call it day of coordination
• My number one tip: don't shop by title
• Full service planning, and why you still get to do the fun parts
• Why you should book your planner before your venue (and the band budget story)
• Day of coordination: what really happens before the wedding day
• When to book a day of coordinator
• Partial planning, and what I'd tell the bride from that Reddit post
• Venue coordinator vs. independent planner
• Planning it yourself, with a roadmap
• Four questions to ask yourselves before you hire anyone
• The "explain it like I'm five" recapMentioned in this episode:

156 - 2027 & 2028 Wedding Trends: What's Worth It on a Real Budget
Episode 156
Show notes
Every fall the wedding trend lists start rolling out, and every fall I watch couples start to feel like their wedding is out of date before they've booked a single vendor. So this year I'm doing things a little differently.
In this episode, I'm walking you through eight wedding trends for 2027 and 2028, what the data from The Knot, Pinterest, and Zola actually says, and most importantly, how each one can work for a real wedding on a real budget. Because some trends are worth the splurge, some are an easy, inexpensive add, and some are going to make you say "why did we do that?" when you look back at your photos.
In this episode:
• Trend 1: Something Old Is the New Something New (and why a family audit beats a vintage shopping spree)
• Trend 2: Your colors don't have to match anymore
• Trend 3: The room is the decor
• Trend 4: Think Italian summer, not a theme party
• Trend 5: Flowers with focus (hello, hydrangeas)
• Trend 6: Guest experience starts with the basics
• Trend 7: Photos that feel real and cinematic
• Trend 8: Your wedding, your rules
• Plus my one bonus prediction about how couples are getting planning helpVendors I mentioned: Simply Brilliant Events (Nicola's stunning sage and lavender palette) and Kristina's Catering (interactive food done right). Both are on Instagram.

155 - Amazon Prime Day Wedding Deals: What to Buy, Wait On + Skip
Episode 155
Show notes
Amazon Prime Days are October 6th and 7th, and yes, there are absolutely things worth buying for your wedding while they’re on sale.
But a sale doesn’t automatically make something a good deal.
In this episode, I’m breaking down my BUY / WAIT / SKIP strategy for Amazon Prime Day wedding shopping, including the wedding purchases that make sense to grab early, the things I’d hold off on, and the “deals” that can actually end up costing you more.
We’re talking wedding party gifts, getting-ready items, décor, beauty products, bulk wedding-day supplies, weather-related purchases, TikTok “essentials,” return windows, and how to tell whether that Prime Day price is actually worth jumping on.
Because the goal isn’t to find as many wedding deals as possible. The goal is to spend less on the wedding you’re already planning.
I put the entire list in a companion guide so you don’t have to take notes while you listen, and I’ll be updating it during Prime Day with wedding deals I find that I think are actually worth checking out:

154 - Wedding Day Expectations: How to Plan Without Expecting Perfection
Episode 154
Show notes
You’ve spent months planning your wedding, but what happens when the actual wedding doesn’t look exactly like the one you’ve been imagining?
In this episode of the Wedding Planning Collective Podcast, I’m talking about wedding day expectations and the difference between planning intentionally for the things that matter to you and expecting every moment to happen exactly according to plan.
Because I absolutely want you to care about the details. Make the timeline. Have the rain plan. Tell your officiant to move before the first kiss. But preparation gives you the best chance of getting what you want—it doesn’t guarantee an outcome.
We’re talking about:
• The difference between a wedding day preference and an expectation you’ve turned into a requirement
• What you should reasonably expect from the vendors you’ve hired
• How TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest can create an invisible checklist for your wedding day
• How to decide whether a wedding day problem actually needs your attention
• Why your wedding priorities still matter once the wedding day arrives
• Giving yourself permission to change the plan, even when nothing has gone wrong
The big takeaway: Plan for the wedding you want, but leave some room for the wedding you actually have.
Because at some point, you have to stop planning the wedding and start experiencing it.

153 - Your Wedding Weather Plan: What to Prepare for (and What to Stop Stressing About)
Episode 153
Show notes
If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, at some point you’re probably going to start obsessively checking the weather app.
But here’s the thing: luck CANNOT be your weather plan. The goal isn’t to figure out how to make sure it doesn’t rain. It’s to know exactly what you’re going to do if it does.
In this episode, I’m breaking down how to create a wedding weather plan before you’re staring at a forecast full of tiny thunderstorm icons.
We’re talking about:
• The questions to ask before booking an outdoor wedding venue
• Why you need to actually be okay with your Plan B
• Rain, heat, wind, humidity, lightning and wet ground
• Tents, heaters, fans, umbrellas and other weather rentals
• How to protect your photos, décor, flowers and guest experience
• When the wedding forecast actually becomes useful
• How and when to make the final weather call
• And what to do when the wedding you pictured for 18 months suddenly has to change
Because a good wedding weather plan isn’t about predicting the weather.
It’s about making sure the weather doesn’t get to decide whether you have a good wedding.
And if you’re listening to this thinking, "Wait...I didn’t even know I was supposed to have a weather plan for half of this stuff", don't stress! That's what the Planning Collective Blueprint is for. It’s there to help with all the wedding planning things you don’t know you need to know yet, with my planning steps, tools and templates, access to me for support, and an AI Pocket Planner that pulls from my wedding planning content when you need a quick answer along the way.

152 - What to Do If You Only Have One Hour to Plan Your Wedding
Episode 152
Show notes
If you finally find an hour to work on your wedding this week, how do you make sure you actually get something DONE?
Because there’s a big difference between spending an hour thinking about your wedding and spending an hour actually moving it forward.
In this episode, I’m breaking down exactly how I’d spend one focused hour on wedding planning. From figuring out what actually deserves your attention right now to making one decision, moving a vendor conversation forward, getting organized, and even stepping away from the logistics for a few minutes.
We’ll also talk about the wedding planning “tasks” that can easily eat up your entire free afternoon without actually accomplishing much. (Looking at you, aimless Pinterest scrolling.)
Whether you just got engaged, you're somewhere in the messy middle, or you're a couple months away from the wedding, you can adapt this one-hour framework to where you are in the planning process.

150 - 7 Wedding Planning Conversations That Will Save You Stress (and Money)
Episode 150
Show notes
What if the easiest way to reduce wedding planning stress wasn't another checklist, but one conversation?
Actually...seven conversations.
After planning hundreds of weddings, I've noticed something: the couples who seem the most confident and organized aren't necessarily doing more. They simply take the time to have a few important conversations before they start making hundreds of wedding decisions.
In this episode, I'm sharing the seven conversations I wish every engaged couple would have before booking vendors, setting a budget, or falling down the Pinterest rabbit hole.
We'll talk about:
• Who you're really planning your wedding for
• How to identify your biggest wedding priorities
• Why guest count is one of the most important decisions you'll make
• How to define the feeling you want your wedding day to have
• How to make budget decisions before emotions take over
• Creating wedding planning non-negotiables together
• Building a decision-making system that makes planning easier
These conversations don't just make wedding planning less stressful, they help you make faster decisions, stay closer to your budget, and spend less time second-guessing yourself.

In this episode, I'm talking about the point where wedding planning shifts from booking exciting vendors to juggling hundreds of small decisions. It's a stage almost every couple reaches, and it's one of the biggest reasons wedding planning starts to feel overwhelming.
I'll explain why this happens, what I call the Wedding Planning Spiral, and share a simple 30-minute reset that can help you feel organized, confident, and back in control.
In this episode, we'll cover:
• Why wedding planning suddenly feels so much harder halfway through planning
• How decision fatigue affects your wedding planning progress

• Why doing more research usually makes overwhelm worse
• A simple 30-minute exercise to help you refocus and know exactly what to do next

143 - Wedding Planning Q&A: 8 Real Questions Brides Are Asking in 2025
Episode 143
Show notes
Today on the Wedding Planning Collective Podcast, I’m answering eight real wedding planning questions submitted by listeners — and we’re covering everything from invitations to aisle etiquette to whether the garter toss is officially dead. If you’re feeling unsure about what’s “normal,” what’s outdated, or what’s actually recommended by a wedding planner… this episode is going to clear a lot up.
Here are the exact questions I’m answering in this episode:
1. Is it too early to send wedding invitations 4.5 months before the wedding?
2. For a seating chart, should you list each guest individually or group couples together?
3. How do you approach your venue about adding a late-night snack?
4. How do you prevent guests from leaning into the aisle with their phones during the ceremony?
5. Is it normal to try on wedding dresses without buying one that day?
6. My fiancé wants a garter toss, but I’m not into it. What do couples do now?
7. If you send save-the-dates, do you have to send a formal invitation later?
8. When hiring a day-of coordinator, what’s the most important thing to look for?
