Come with me as I take you on a candlelit walk through Salem, Massachusetts, the Witch City, where the tragedy of 1692 left behind far more than history. 16. Chilling Locations and Spooky Legends of the Pacific Northwest

    Show notes

This episode takes you on a haunted road trip through the Pacific Northwest, tracing five real world locations from Seattle down through Oregon. Each stop pairs a spooky piece of regional history with the paranormal legend attached to it, including two firsthand accounts shared exactly as they were told. Use the list below as your own travel map if you would like to visit any of these places yourself.

    • Georgetown Morgue, Seattle, Washington — A former funeral home, crematorium, and morgue with a colorful and disputed history, known for cold spots, unexplained footsteps, and a shadow figure seen near the old embalming room. Runs as a haunted house every October.
    • Starvation Heights (Olalla, Washington) — Site of Linda Hazzard's early nineteen hundreds fasting sanitarium, where documented patient deaths still shadow the property today.
    • Ape Canyon, Mount St. Helens, Washington — Location of the famous nineteen twenty four miner encounter and ongoing reports of strange lights and a presence in the surrounding forest.
    • Shanghai Tunnels, Portland, Oregon — Underground passageways tied to the city's waterfront history and legends of forced conscription, with reports of whispers and unexplained touches.
    • Wolf Creek Inn, Wolf Creek, Oregon — One of Oregon's oldest hotels, home to a recurring second floor presence felt by generations of guests and staff.

  19. Haunted Memento Mori and Mourning Objects

Long before Victorian mourning jewelry, monks kept skulls on their desks and called it meditatio mortis, a discipline meant to sharpen life rather than darken it. Let's trace that tradition from medieval rings to Queen Victoria's grief, then sit with three first person accounts of haunted memento mori objects that seem to be doing their job a little too well.

Light a few candles and let's listen to some ghost stories. Afterward, hold space for those who have passed in your life and see if tonight's Message from the Spirits is for you.
