93. Pleasure, Power, and the Vote: Joy Is Resistance (with Dr. Nan Wise and Natasha of Voting Shoes)
Show notes
Four days, loves. This episode is the pre-game: me, Dr. Nan Wise (sex therapist, neuroscientist, and the woman who taught me the phrase healthy hedonism), and Natasha, the former legal aid attorney behind @votingshoes, one of the most joyful voting accounts on Instagram. Nan reached out to Natasha and Natty and the Women Take Charge Collective was born. This conversation is what happened when the three of us got in a room: a complete voting plan for Tuesday, a crash course in the down ballot races that touch your daily life most, and the neuroscience of why joy, connection, and pleasure are not a distraction from the work. They ARE the work.
What you'll hear:
🔥 Why these midterms are Congress's two-year job evaluation ("Congress works for us, and we can fire them")
🔥 Down ballot 101: school boards, state legislators, local judges, county commissions, and how to research yours fast before Tuesday
🔥 The voting plan, step by step: find your polling place today, vote early, what to do if anything goes wrong at the polls, your rights in line, and how to track your ballot
🔥 Dr. Nan on co-regulation and the seeking system: why overwhelm freezes voters, why curiosity breaks the freeze, and why talking to your neighbor is a political act
🔥 Pleasure activism and its lineage, from Audre Lorde's "Uses of the Erotic" to Toni Cade Bambara's charge to make the revolution irresistible to adrienne maree brown's Pleasure Activism, and what joy as resistance looks like four days before an election
The framework: This episode lives in The Rise. Three women met on a Zoom and became a collective. That's how it starts.
Make your plan (do this today):
•
Find your polling place and early voting locations: visit your Secretary of State's website (google your state + secretary of state) or from your phone: 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683)
•
If you're in line before polls close, you have the right to vote, no matter how long it takes
•
About half the states offer same-day or Election Day registration; check yours
•
Tuesday: wear shoes that mean something, take the photo, tag @votingshoes
Join us: the Women Take Charge Collective is live on Instagram; DM the word "JOIN" to Dr. Nan [https://www.instagram.com/askdoctornan/] and you're in. One goal a week, together, with pleasure. And our free community is always open: https://thefemininerebellion.com/community
About the guests: Dr. Nan Wise is a sex therapist, neuroscientist, and author. Natasha of @votingshoes is a former legal aid attorney and voter protection volunteer whose account turns voting into a celebration

92. The Unwritten Rules: How to Unbind the Family Laws You Never Agreed To
Show notes
Bootstraps. Power through. Chin up. Show no weakness. Nobody ever sat me down at the kitchen table and read me the rules of my house. Nobody had to. I knew them in my bones, and so did you. This week's solo episode is about those rules: the ones you absorbed from your mom's face when the doorbell rang, the ones you're still obeying at 45, at 50, at 62, and the ones I was still obeying this past March, fifty years old, feet throbbing in ski boots I had hated for three seasons, because somewhere in me a little girl still believed that if it hurts, it's probably good for you.
What you'll hear:
🔥 Walk it off, Jimmy: the bleachers where so many of us learned that getting hurt is embarrassing and crying is worse
🔥 The ski boots I wore for three seasons of pain, and the chairlift conversation that ended it ("that's how deep these rules go")
🔥 The rules your community named, and mine: keep it pretty on the outside, suffer to deserve anything good, everyone's feelings are your job, and the one that ties them all together: choose yourself, enjoy the guilt
🔥 Why breaking a rule still sets off alarms in your body decades later, and how your body learns something new ("I told the truth and I didn't die")
🔥 The House Rules Rewrite: the tool for finding your five rules and writing the law of YOUR house, plus the story of a woman whose one "no, thank you" rewrote a rule that had run her since childhood
The framework: This episode lives in The Unbinding, the first stage of this work. The second you can see a rule, you get a choice: is this mine? Do I want to keep it?
Your homework: one rule, one week. Then come into our free community and tell us which rule you're rewriting. We'll hold it with you, that's what we do in there: https://thefemininerebellion.com/community
bell hooks wrote that learning to love our female selves is where our search for love must begin. This episode is what that looks like in real life. One rule. Rewritten. By you.

91. The Cornell 7 and the Boys We're Still Raising (with Cindy Pierce)
Show notes
This episode contains frank discussion of porn culture, sexual assault, and child sexual abuse, approached with care and for educational purposes. Listener discretion advised. If you or someone you love needs support, please reach out to a licensed mental-health professional or a crisis resource in your area.
If you're talking about the Cornell 7 in terms of consent training, you are missing the damn plot. Consent training isn't wrong. It's about thirteen years too late. By the time our boys are five, they've already learned the rules of patriarchal world culture: you have to exert power OVER someone else. Women are worth less. Vulnerability is weakness. And you belong by making someone else feel smaller.
Last week I could have worn a hole in the carpet of my office trying to put words to my rage. I have two daughters, 21 and 22, and a son who's a freshman in college. I am smack dab in the middle of this conversation. So I reached out to Cindy Pierce. We'd been introduced, but we weren't close, and she's the only woman I know who is a true expert in this. I laid on my couch, we talked for an hour, and when we hung up I thought... fuck. I wish I'd recorded that. So I texted her over the weekend, and we did.
Cindy goes INTO fraternities and sororities for a living. For 22 years she's been in real, deep conversations with these kids, so when she tells you what's really behind this, she's not guessing. She's hearing it from them. And the first thing she'll tell you: our kids can recite consent in their sleep. That was never the missing piece.
Go listen. And then send it to every mom of a son you know.
What you'll hear:
🔥 Why consent education isn't failing for lack of repetition, and what actually makes it vanish under social pressure
🔥 The default sexuality educator raising our kids (hint: it's not us), what it's teaching them, and how to interrupt it without shame
🔥 Boys' drama is real: group chat kings, targets, and the daily survival pressure nobody is allowed to name, plus the masks underneath ("that's safety in numbers, that's fear dressed up as strength")
🔥 Compliance training: be into it but don't be a slut, be strong but stay thin, speak up but be nice about it, and what that training costs our daughters
🔥 The practical toolbox: social courage in steps, the five-minute timer talk, open-ended questions that actually work, letting kids pay consequences, and raising humans who are kind 98 percent of the time and difficult when it counts
The framework: This episode lives in The Rise. Women our age are the torch bearers, and this is the work: changing the culture our kids inherit, one kitchen table at a time.
About Cindy Pierce: comic storyteller, social sexuality educator, and author. She speaks at schools, colleges, and organizations across the country (yes, she does living-room talks too), and she runs an inn in the New Hampshire woods with her husband. [Check Cindy’s website]

90. The Questions She Never Asked Herself: Psychedelics, Midlife, and Coming Home to You (with Anne Philippi)
Show notes
This episode discusses psychedelics for educational and storytelling purposes only. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing is a recommendation to use any substance. Psychedelics remain illegal in most jurisdictions and are not safe or appropriate for everyone. The experiences described took place in legal, clinically guided settings. Please consult a licensed medical or mental-health professional before making any decisions about your health.
We're back, loves. And I could not have picked a better conversation to return with. Anne Philippi spent fifteen years in the glossiest rooms in journalism; GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, two or three Hollywood stars a week, becoming world-class at one thing: knowing what everyone else wanted.
Then came the realization that stopped her cold: "I don't ask myself any questions." What happened next after twenty years of talk therapy had circled the same stories, changed the direction of her entire life, and turned her into one of the defining voices destigmatizing psychedelic medicine.
What you'll hear:
🔥 Life inside the junket: Hollywood access, the Chris Pratt white-t-shirt assignment, and the slow realization that she'd become an expert on everyone but herself
🔥 What twenty years of talk therapy couldn't reach — and what finally surfaced in her first guided journeys (including the vision that told her exactly what mattered to her)
🔥 "I had no sense of femininity": untangling the feminine from seduction, the intergenerational erasure she traces through her family, and the jet full of powerful, feminine, zero-competition women that redefined everything
🔥 Losing 80% of her friends — why real transformation reorganizes your relationships, and what authentic female support actually feels like
🔥 Healthy ambition as a homecoming, the Amanda Feilding story that called her into this work, and where curious midlife women can learn more — safely, legally, and guided
The framework: This episode lives in The Reclamation — coming home to the self that got buried under the performance.
About Anne Philippi: After 15 years in high-profile journalism (GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair), Anne founded The New Health Club in 2020, the first lifestyle-driven platform in the psychedelic space , and in 2025 launched the New Health Institute, a US-based nonprofit refining cultural narratives around psychedelics through curated Jeffersonian dinners that bring veterans, clinicians, and policymakers to one table. Her board includes MAPS founder Rick Doblin.

89. The Midlife Shedding: How to Let Go of the Sh*t That Drains You
Show notes
There’s a reason trees drop their leaves before the frost. They’re not failing. They’re f*cking wise.
They refuse to carry dead weight into winter.
But you? You’ve been trained to do the opposite.
Pile on obligations. Say yes when your whole body says hell no. Wear roles like costumes you never auditioned for. And by midlife, you’re exhausted.
This episode is your invitation to a radical seasonal rebellion: The Midlife Shedding.
Inside, we explore:
✨ Why patriarchy trained women to over-function—and how your nervous system keeps the score
✨ How to turn your body into a compass with the Fuck Yes / Fuck No Scan—because contraction and expansion never lie
✨ The 4-step Shedding Framework: SEE it → FEEL it → PRUNE it → REPLANT it
✨ Why shedding isn’t collapse—it’s strategy. The biology of pruning, the neuroscience of desire, and how pleasure literally rewires your brain
✨ A guided embodiment practice to reset your compass and commit to one concrete “Fuck Yes” action within 24 hours
Because here’s the truth: you’re not here to be efficient.
You’re here to be electric. Magnetic. Unapologetically unfuckwithable.

88. Midlife Ruptures: The Call to Your Expansion
Show notes
At midlife, rupture is inevitable.
A child leaves home.
A marriage shifts.
A career stops fitting.
An identity starts cracking.
And here’s the rebellion: rupture isn’t just pain.
It’s your body’s way of saying, “This container is too small for who I am now.”
In this fierce and truth-soaked episode, Natty reframes rupture as a holy signal—an embodied invitation to expansion. What feels like breaking down is actually breaking open.
Inside, we explore:
✨ Why patriarchy trains women to patch the cracks, override the signals, and smile through the wilt (and the cost of doing so)
✨ How your nervous system responds in rupture—and why completing the stress cycle is the key to resilience and health
✨ The neuroscience of rupture: how destabilization activates neuroplasticity, rewiring your brain for clarity, boundaries, and desire
✨ The Rupture Release Practice—a 4-step somatic tool to embody rupture instead of bury it: Name it. Move it. Add Pleasure. Listen
✨ How rupture becomes leadership—every time you embody it, you disrupt patriarchal conditioning and model liberation for the women around you
Because rupture isn’t the end.
It’s your expansion.
It’s the portal into a bigger, more desire-fueled life.

87. The Radical Act of Slowing The F*ck Down
Show notes
You ever catch yourself hustling… even when no one’s watching?
That was me—alone on a trail, chasing a meaningless “record” on my hiking app like I had something to prove.
To whom??? No one was there.
That moment cracked me wide open to just how deep hustle culture runs in our bones—and how sneaky it can be.
Even in pleasure. Even in nature. Even when we’re alone.
This episode is an unapologetic permission slip to stop racing through life, drop the performance, and choose pleasure over proving.
We’re talking:
🔥 How patriarchal conditioning keeps midlife women in an endless push-mode (even on a damn hike}
🔥 Why slowing down is a rebellious, nervous-system-healing act
🔥 The neuroscience behind rest and pleasure (and why your creativity + vitality depend on it)
🔥 How to shift from “achiever” to “savor-er” in your daily life🔥 Real-life rebellion stories from the trail that might just inspire your own
Because slowing down isn’t lazy. It’s revolutionary.
It’s how we reclaim our bodies, our time, and our lives—one pleasure-fueled, rebellious moment at a time.

Not because time is running out—But because something inside you finally says: "No more autopilot. It’s time to become who I’m here to be."
In this powerful episode, Natty dives deep into the sacred pivot of turning 50—and the radical permission it gives you to burn the old rules and rise in your truth.
Inside, we explore:
🔥Why midlife isn’t a crisis—it’s a cosmic initiation🔥What the Chiron Return teaches us about wounds, wisdom, and wild becoming🔥How change is inevitable—but transformation is a choice🔥The power of The Desire Ritual to unlock your next act with purpose, pleasure, and full-body clarity🔥What it means to lead yourself (before anyone else claps for it)
This one is honest. Unfiltered. Fierce. And filled with tools to help you stop drifting and start creating the life your soul’s been begging for.

85. Pleasure Begets Pleasure: Why One YES Changes Everything
Show notes
Take the trip.
In a few days, I get on a plane to Spain for the rest of the month, with a group of women who have invited me on this trip every single year, for years. And every year, I said no. This episode is the story of all my no's, the question that finally broke them, and the principle that changed how I navigate my entire life: pleasure begets pleasure.
What you'll hear:
🔥 My very responsible reasons for saying no, year after year, and the word hiding underneath all of them ("extra")
🔥 "I never saw my mom do anything like this": the permission we were never handed
🔥 The question that broke my no's for good: why the f*ck not?
🔥 The nerdy part: what happens in your nervous system when you say yes and nothing bad happens ("I said yes... and I didn't die")
🔥 Pleasure as your GPS, and the one question to ask yourself every morning
🔥 How four women became NINE, and why one woman's yes gives every woman watching permission
The move this week: answer the invitation you keep declining. Or be the one who sends it.

84. How to Claim the Life You Keep Dreaming About (She Already Exists)
Show notes
There's a life you dream about when nobody's watching. The one you float off to sleep inside of, so vivid some nights you can smell the coffee in that other kitchen. This week I'm telling you what I know from the marrow of my bones: that life is real, and the version of you who lives it already exists. Then we get honest about what it costs to reach her.
What you'll hear:
🔥 Why the dream that keeps finding you is finding YOU, on purpose, and why it wants you as much as you want it
🔥 The morning, a decade ago, when I rolled over in bed and became HER (this one changed my marriage)
🔥 You don't become her by adding. You become her by shedding: the habits, the sentences on loop, and yes, some of the people
🔥 "You've changed," said like an accusation, when it was the whole point
🔥 The Shed List and Move As If: how she gets pulled out of the dream and into your actual Tuesday
🔥 The truth about the work: visioning is the easy part, and why becoming her is so hard to do alone

83. Should I Quit My Marriage?
Show notes
It's 2AM and you're wide awake next to a man who's fast asleep, typing a question into your phone with the brightness turned all the way down. Then you delete the search history. This week, we're asking that question in daylight.
What you'll hear:
🔥 The article Oprah just pulled back into every group chat, and the question hiding underneath "are women giving up on marriage"🔥 The fairy tale of The One, and the moment you realize no human being can survive being someone's everything🔥 The history nobody handed us: marriage was an economic contract for centuries, and the love-marriage is barely 200 years old🔥 What decentering men actually means (hint: hating them is just another way of centering them)🔥 A word for the woman who was never quiet, who asked for years and got a wall🔥 My own 25-year marriage, which has honestly been about seven different marriages, and The Marriage Rewrite: three steps, and the first two have nothing to do with him
This episode is part of The Unbinding, the first stage of the work we do here.

82. You've Forgotten What You Want: The Patriarchal Path (and the Way Back)
Show notes
I'm recording this one from a sweltering hotel room in New York City, and I can't stop thinking about a 26-year-old named Karen I ate dumplings with last night — because Karen is standing at the front door of a path most of us walked all the way to the end. I call it The Patriarchal Path: the list you were handed so early you thought it was your own idea. The education, the career, the partnership, the kids, the house — and happiness waiting at the end like a prize at the bottom of the cereal box. We didn't fail that path, love. We crushed it. And then we arrived, boxes checked, whispering the question every woman thinks she's the only one asking: is this it?
What you'll hear:
🔥 The Patriarchal Path, named — and why the most accomplished women are the ones standing at the end of it asking "is this it?"
🔥 The data that will make you feel less crazy: the documented paradox of declining female happiness, and why women our age carry the highest depression rate in the country — the problem is the path, not you
🔥 Why the guilt of wanting arrives faster than the want itself — and whose job that guilt is doing
🔥 All Fours, Dying for Sex, and what it means that every story our culture can't stop consuming is about a woman needing an escape hatch before she's allowed to want
🔥 The turn: stop asking WHAT you want (that's the advanced class) — and the story of the day I climbed a tree at forty-two and found my life's work up there
The framework: This episode lives in The Unbinding — unbinding from the path that never had your wanting on the list.
🌿 The Desire Ritual: if this episode is stirring something, I built a self-paced mini-experience for exactly this — a ritual for you and your wanting getting reacquainted, inside our community, on your own time. It might be the most important thing you give yourself this year.
With love to Vella BioScience and founder Carolyn Wheeler — doing incredible work in women's sexual wellness (and Carolyn, that podcast invitation is real).
One more thing: subscribe, leave a 5-star review, and share this with 5 women in your life. Those three things tell the platforms to put this in front of more women — and the more women who hear this, the better the world gets for all of us. I will die on that hill.

81. How Do You Want to Feel? The Question That Stopped My Divorce (The Tables Turn with Dr. Emma Smith)
Show notes
The tables turn this week. My friend — and my go-to sex therapist — Dr. Emma Smith puts me in the guest chair, and I tell the story I've never told this completely: the Wednesday morning I sat in couples therapy and said "I want a divorce, and I have a lawyer." I wasn't bluffing. And then my therapist asked me a question so strange I almost laughed at him — and it shot straight into the middle of my soul, ended the divorce, and started everything you now know as The Feminine Rebellion.
What you'll hear:
🔥 The full origin story: the bomb I dropped in therapy, the question that undid me, and the vision — my grandmother's ragù, Jerry Garcia, my husband's beard on my neck — that told me what I actually wanted
🔥 Why softening is the hardest part for capable women: "we can do it all, so we do it all" — and what it costs when your body never gets to receive
🔥 The day a yoga teacher handed me a book on the feminine and I wanted to punch her in the throat — and the 88 keys I've learned to play since
🔥 The magic of midlife: why we are the wisest humans on the planet, and what a woman fueled by pleasure pushes into the world
🔥 Pleasure is a spectrum — orgasm is 1% of it — and the five-pound-weight way back to wanting anything at all.
The framework: This episode lives in The Reclamation — my own. Desire, softness, and the right to feel, taken back one drop at a time.

80. The Good Girl Operating System: Why Approval Still Runs Your Life After 40
Show notes
If you'd asked me a few years ago whether I needed anyone's permission to live my life, I would have laughed in your face. I was independent. Capable. I made my own calls, thank you very much. And other people's approval was still quietly running the whole show — setting the ceiling on what I believed was even possible for me. Today we make that invisible thing visible. I'm naming the Good Girl Operating System — the lifelong training that hooked your worth to everyone else's nod — and we're starting to take it apart, one permission slip at a time.
What you'll hear:
🔥 The lie at the center of it: why "being good" was never the same thing as being worthy — and how you ended up auditioning for an approval that never quite arrives
🔥 The two layers that keep it running: the conditioning that taught you to read the room before your own heart, and the nervous-system alarm that makes "just stop caring what people think" impossible
🔥 The gift shop vs. the art: why the bath-and-candle version of self-love was never going to fix this — and what real self-approval actually asks of you
🔥 The MBA I almost got: how I nearly put The Feminine Rebellion on hold for years waiting for somebody official to stamp me approved
🔥 The Permission Slip Audit — the 5-sentence exercise that shows you, in black and white, exactly whose approval has been running you (and the one move that starts the rewiring)
The framework: This episode lives in The Unbinding — our second unbinding, from the approval that was setting the ceiling on your life.
Standing on their shoulders (start here): the ideas in this episode — pleasure, reclamation, self-love as something radical — began with Black women, long before the culture was ready for them. Everything we do on this show stands on their work. If this episode moved something in you, go to the source:
•
Bell hooks — Communion: The Female Search for Love: the book I quote in this episode, on what happens when a woman never learns to meet her own need for acceptance — and where real self-love begins.
•
Audre Lorde — Sister Outsider and "Uses of the Erotic": the erotic as a source of real power, and caring for yourself as self-preservation — even political warfare.
•
adrienne maree brown — Pleasure Activism: the lineage carried forward — pleasure as a measure of freedom.
Loved this episode? If you're ready to stop asking permission and start living, that's exactly what we do inside Rebels Rising — together, in real time: unbinding, reclaiming, and rising, one woman at a time.
And if this show cracks something open for you, a 5-star review is how another midlife woman finds it — 30 seconds, and it matters.

79. You're Not Broken, You're Empty: The Real Reason You Don't Want Sex (with Dr. Emma Smith)
Show notes
You love your partner. Your life looks solid from the outside. And somewhere along the way, you stopped wanting sex — and started telling yourself that's just what happens to busy, high-achieving women in midlife. I believed that too. Then my favorite sex therapist sat down across from me and said the sentence that reframes everything: you're not broken — you're empty. And those are completely different problems.
What you'll hear:
🔥 Why the exact qualities that built your career and your family are the ones flatlining your desire — and the wall every woman eventually hits
🔥 The scheduled-sex lie: why "put it on the calendar" is corporate maintenance work, and what actually reawakens wanting
🔥 Dr. Emma's Want-It-Back ladder — the 5-second coffee-and-shower practice that rebuilds arousal before desire (yes, it starts that small)

78. Ask Natty: Do You Actually Deserve to Rest?
Show notes
A listener named Maura wrote in with a question so many of us are white-knuckling in silence. After a demanding career and years of holding her family through crisis, she has finally, quote, retired, and she cannot shake the voice that asks, "are you doing enough, do I even deserve to rest?"
This week, in the very first Ask Natty, I coach her, and you, all the way through it.
What you’ll hear
🔥 What Ask Natty is, and how to send me the question you want coached on a future episode
🔥 Why “do I deserve to rest” is a rigged question, and the question to ask instead
🔥 The two layers under the guilt: worth-as-productivity conditioning, and a nervous system stuck in go-mode
🔥 The Unearned Rest: a ten-minute daily practice you take before you have earned it
🔥 A second question, on why healing is a labyrinth not a straight line, and why getting triggered doesn’t mean you failed
The framework. This is still the Unbinding, unbinding from the lie that your worth is your output.

77. The Installed Voice: 3 Questions That Tell You If a Cruel Thought Is Even Yours
Show notes
There is a voice in your head that has been narrating your life like a critic in the back row, telling you that you are behind, you are too much, you should have it figured out by now. And you have never really questioned it, because it sounds exactly like you. This episode is going to show you that most of what that voice says was never yours to begin with. Somebody installed it. And I am handing you a simple, three-question tool to tell the difference between the voice that got planted in you and the voice that is actually you.
WHAT YOU’LL HEAR
🔥 Why your inner critic is not your intelligence or your intuition, but conditioning wearing your voice like a costume
🔥 The two layers under the critic: who actually benefits from your self-doubt, and the body-based reason shame feels so true
🔥 What the inner critic quietly costs you (the promotions, the projects, the rooms you never walked into)
🔥 The Whose-Voice-Is-It Test: the three questions that tell you whether a cruel thought is even yours
🔥 How to tell accountability from cruelty, so you can grow without gutting yourself
THE FRAMEWORK
This is the first Unbinding. Everything on this show moves through three stages, The Unbinding, The Reclamation, and The Rise, and it all starts here, with unbinding from the voice in your own head.
If this cracked something open and you want to go deeper, Rebels Rising is where these tools stop being a podcast you nod along to and start being the way you actually live. thefemininerebellion.com/rebels-rising.
