Owning the Pause in Perimenopause: 15 Days in & Unfiltered
Episode 14
Show notes
You’re fine. No, Linda, you’re not.
You’re doing everything right, and you still can’t shake that heavy “meh.” Some days it feels like someone needs to peel you off the couch midday. We’ve all been handed the same armor: just deal with it. I’m done with that, and I don’t want you wearing it either.
In this episode, I’m taking you through the first 15 days of my 90-day journey to own the pause. You’ll hear why perimenopause feels so chaotic, the surprising symptoms you may not have connected yet, whether a blood test can really tell you you’re in it, and how to become a noticer of your own body.
Here’s what we cover:
• Estrogen swings instead of declining smoothly, progesterone (your calm hormone) drops early, and falling testosterone hits your energy and motivation
• The perimenopause symptoms nobody warned you about, from itchy skin and dry eyes to brain fog, joint pain, and that heavy “meh”
• Why a hormone blood test is only a snapshot of one random day, and why it’s still worth getting
• How journaling your symptoms can give your doctor a clearer picture than any single lab resultI’m also getting honest about the curveballs: my dad’s health, a daily vlog promise that life rewrote, and why giving myself permission to pivot is what finally brought me back to myself.
If you’ve been quietly wondering, is this perimenopause or is this just me?, press play and lets chat through some raw & real together.

Is This Perimenopause? What's Happening?
Show notes
Have you ever felt overwhelm for no obvious reason, even when life is good? and you can't shake it?! Same, girl.
Is that perimenopause? midlife crisis? Ughhhh
I'm 43, happily and madly in love married, our amazing kids are grown, my dad is fighting through some health stuff, and my body is clearly sending me some signals that something's shifting. I'm soo itchy! Perimenopause has entered the chat, and my health and wellness self is not going to just sit back to let it run the show.
Today is day one of a 90-day journey, and I'm bringing you with me. I'm getting real about what I'm feeling, what I already have dialed in, and the small changes I'm ready to make, what I am learning, and so much more. This won't be the only thing we chat about here on the pod but if you're in your thirties or forties+ and wondering "is this just me?", it's not. Let's chat this one out together.

Stop Overthinking the Good Stuff
Show notes
Be for real... do you overthink the good stuff? Spoiler: we all do, at different times in our life. In this episode I'm breaking down my OG post on why we make the simple stuff so hard — waiting for perfect, letting your phone run your morning, hitting snooze, "someday" instead of today. Five quick shifts to stop getting in your own way. Punch those excuses in the face, friend. You've got this.

The Frustration Gap
Show notes
Okay so real talk — I pulled a muscle and it has been humbling. No quick pivots in dance fitness for me right now, and honestly? I'll take the excuse to skip Bulgarian split squats. If you know, you know.
But this got me thinking about something I heard years ago that I've never forgotten — the idea that there are three lines in your life: where you were, where you are, and where you want to go. And most of us get stuck living in that gap between where we are and where we want to be. That's the frustration gap. That's where we hang out, pointing fingers, leaning on excuses we already know are holding us back.
So instead of spiraling about what I can't do right now, I'm trying to actually practice what I preach — take a step back, look at where I was, and sit in some gratitude instead. Because here's the thing I keep relearning: it is really hard to be frustrated and grateful in the same moment.
I get into my first class back (spoiler: my knee was not ready, I bailed early, said some adult words in my head), what it taught me about how much of our life we just quietly assume is always going to work the way it's always worked — until it doesn't. And why the shift isn't always about pushing harder toward where you want to go. Sometimes it's just about where you are.
Maybe your "knee" isn't literally a knee. Maybe it's the gym you haven't walked into yet, the new thing you're scared to be bad at, or an old setback you never actually let heal. Wherever you're stuck, my friend — know your three lines, choose gratitude over frustration, and lets talk about it.

Is the Shake-Up Worth It? (The ROI of Changing Your Routine)
Show notes
Ever get so excited about a new habit that you forget the one you already have is actually working? A text comes into the group chat. Someone mentions the 30-30-30 method. And just like that, I'm convinced I'm overhauling my entire morning starting tomorrow.
Tomorrow doesn't happen. Neither does the next day.
When you get excited about a new habit — you might already have a routine that's working. And shaking it up isn't just about willpower. It's about what you're willing to let slip to make room for something new.
This week I'm getting real about the difference between chasing something because it's shiny, and asking whether it's actually worth the cost. There are three questions I walk through before I let anything new touch what's already working in my life — and I think they might change how you look at your next "I'm starting tomorrow" moment too.

Just Stand Up
Show notes
Okay here's the thing — sometimes the fix for what's frustrating you is way simpler than we make it. Like, embarrassingly simple. That's basically what this whole mini episode is.
That morning I got woken up — not by my alarm, by the worst freaking Charlie horse I've had in a long while. And there's this tip my dad gave me years ago: the second it happens, get out of bed, stand straight up, and it goes away. Every single time. No joke.
And standing there after, I just started thinking about all the other Charlie horses in our life. The frustrations. The stuff that feels stuck. The things we let linger way longer than they need to because we don't move fast enough out of the pain of it.
Turns out it's the same fix. Stand up. Take some ownership. Stop overcomplicating the way out. This one's short, it's real talk, and it might just change how you look at your next curveball.
Be greater, get rooted, and put your yes first. Because if you don't, who will?

The Fitness Mindset Reset
Show notes
Let's let go of what we think we have to do because most of it is keeping us from the results we actually want.
Friend, I have been over 200 pounds, working out 5+ days a week, doing every single thing I thought I was supposed to do — and I was exhausted, frustrated, and going absolutely nowhere. And if you are sitting in that same place right now, this conversation is going to hit different.
Today we are breaking through the gym expectations that have been weighing on your shoulders, talking about why your muscle is literally your metabolism, why that scale number is never telling you the whole story, and why your mind is going to give up on you way before your body ever does.
And if you are not ready for the gym yet? Girl, we are talking about that too — because all movement matters and your day one kept consistent is going to turn into your year five faster than you think.
Come hang out. Let's figure this out together.
Stay Healthy Friend,
Jamie Summers

How to Reduce Inflammation With Food and Omega-3s
Show notes
If you wake up stiff, crash hard every afternoon, recover slower than you should, or just feel off and can't explain why — you've probably been blaming stress or getting older. This episode is going to give you a real answer.
Chronic inflammation is sitting underneath nearly every major health condition we face today and most people have completely normalized living with it. I know because I spent all of 2019 managing knee pain every single day with KT tape — modifying workouts, icing after every class, struggling through something as simple as carrying laundry upstairs — before I finally figured out what was actually going on.
In this episode you'll learn why over 90% of people are omega-3 deficient without knowing it, how the standard American diet is fueling your inflammation every single day, and the simple weekly food routine that makes fixing it easier than you think — including a stupidly simple frozen salmon air fryer recipe that even seafood haters will eat.
You'll also learn what to look for in an omega-3 supplement, because the wrong one isn't just ineffective — it can actively make things worse.
If you've made peace with not feeling your best, this episode will change how you think about that.
Stay Healthy,
Jamie

The One Thing That Makes Everything Else Work Better In Your Health...
Show notes
If you have been eating healthy, working out, taking your vitamins, and still not seeing the results that all of that work should be showing by now — this episode is for you. Before we get into the science today I am going to get real with you about something that does not get talked about enough in the health space. The story you are telling yourself about your body matters more than you know. I lived the negative script for way too long and one moment with my daughter changed everything for me. We are going to talk about that first because I truly believe that before anything else can change in your life the way you think about yourself has to change first. And then I am going to hand you a perspective that I wish someone had handed me a whole lot sooner. What if it has nothing to do with what you are doing and everything to do with what you are not getting nutritionally?Today we are going deep on the biggest nutritional gap of all five — the one that was purposely removed from our food supply to preserve shelf life — and why fixing this one thing first is going to make everything else you are already doing work better. We are talking whole grain oils, what they do at the cellular level, the hospital research from the 1940s that nobody is talking about, and why that whole grain bread in your cart is probably not what you think it is.This episode is going to reframe everything. Come pull up a chair. What we cover:The mindset shift that changed everything for meWhy a calorie is not a calorie and quality always winsWhat correct weight loss actually looks likeThe one nutritional gap that is quietly keeping your results from showing upThe Nerf ball analogy that is going to make cellular health make total senseThe 51% legal loophole on whole grain labels that nobody is telling you aboutThe world's first whole grain concentrate and why it is the one thing I would never go withoutThese next 18 minutes are going to change a whole lot! Still Tired, Still Stuck? Here's What's Actually Going On
Show notes
If you've ever done all the "right things" — eating healthy, taking your vitamins, getting your sleep — and still felt exhausted, inflamed, or stuck in a plateau that won't budge, this episode is going to make a lot of things click.
We're talking about the 5 nutritional gaps that 90–98% of Americans are walking around with every single day and just normalizing not feeling good! Here's the truth: the food supply is broken, the soil is depleted, and we are only as healthy as our cells.
Today I'm breaking down 5 nutrition gaps that are holding us back: whole grains, fruits and vegetables, omega-3s, vitamins and minerals, and complete protein — what these gaps look like in your body, why they exist, and what you can actually do about it.
Plus: my two-question grocery store test that cuts through every confusing label and gets you back to the basics.
Your body has been talking to you. It's time to start listening.
The only BS you'll ever get from me is my degree.
