409- The Story of Seed & Sew: How We Grew, and Where We Want to Go, with Rachel and Alyssa
Show notes
You’re listening to Voices of Your Village, and today’s episode is about a shift that we’ve been sitting with for a while.
It’s a conversation about how things change, how we grow, and what it looks like to really listen to what’s needed—and let that shape what comes next.
When we started this podcast in 2018, the world looked really different. There weren’t as many voices, fewer spaces to learn, fewer places to turn. Over the past 8 years, we’ve had the privilege of sharing this space with you, joining you on your car rides, in your kitchens, your classrooms, and through your hardest parenting moments.
And what we’ve heard more and more recently is this:
I don’t just need more information. I need support in the moment.
In this episode, we’re sharing how Seed & Sew has evolved over the years, what we’ve learned along the way, and why we’re making a shift now. Not because this work is ending, but because we want to meet you where you actually are.
We’re talking about what it looks like to move from content to connection. From general advice to individualized support. From listening… to being able to ask, “What do I do right now, with this kid, in this moment?”
So we’re pressing pause on the pod to allow a transition into something more responsive, more personalized, and more aligned with what you’ve been asking for.
Alright folks, let’s dive in.

I, for one, have this at my household. I have a sensory mismatch with one of my children and my husband has a sensory mismatch with our other child and so we're constantly navigating this in real life. And at the end of this episode, Rach and I came together for a breakdown of what this looks like in real life in our households. I hope this one is hitting you at a good time, y 'all. 407- You Can Love Your Kids and Still Struggle with Motherhood, with Libby Ward (Rebroadcast)
Show notes
You’re listening to Voices of Your Village, and today I’m joined by Libby Ward—creator, author, and the voice behind Honest Motherhood—and this conversation is the kind that makes you feel a little less alone in your own brain.
We’re talking about the mental load of motherhood, the pressure to be productive, and how hard it can be to rest even when your body is asking for it. Libby shares openly about self-doubt, overwhelm, and what it’s looked like to move from doing what she should do to actually listening to what she needs.
We get into nervous system support, repair over perfection, and what it means to raise kids differently than we were raised—while still being human in the process.

406- Post-Vacation Meltdowns and School Refusal with The OT Butterfly, Laura Petix (Rebroadcast)
Show notes
You're listening to Voices of Your Village, and today’s episode is a rebroad of one of our absolute essentials-- how to navigate that rocky transition back to school after vacation. And not just for our kids, but for ourselves, too.
I’m joined by my friend Laura Petix, also known as The OT Butterfly. She’s a pediatric occupational therapist, a neurodivergent mom raising a neurodivergent kid, and the author of A Kid’s Book About Neurodiversity. She also has a brand-new book coming out October 6th called The Sensory Code: Understanding Sensory Processing Differences to Support Your Child’s Unique Needs, which could not be more perfect for this conversation.
This convo is a mix of validation, strategy, and "yep, me too" moments you’re going to want to come back to. We talk about how to actually support regulation in those first weeks back, whether your kid is a sensory seeker or sensory sensitive, and how to lower demands, build in support, and reset your own expectations. We also get into the emotional side of school refusal, those brutal morning meltdowns, and why some kids just need a longer runway to get going again.
Plus, Laura shares her brilliant nervous system budget analogy, which I think you're going to love. This one’s for those of us starting the school year already feeling tapped out, and trying to figure out how to make re-entry just a little softer.

Show notes
Rebroadcast: You're listening to Voices of Your Village, and today I get to hang out with Dr. Cara Natterson and Vanessa Kroll Bennett to chat about how to make puberty and sex talks less awkward. Our editor, Kristin, for the podcast and Rach both were like, oh my gosh, this episode is gold. I love how approachable Cara and Vanessa are and how much they let me be me in this and share about how little I was spoken to about puberty and sex and how awkward it is now when my kids do things like ask if they can invite me to their penis party. Fear not, Dr. Cara Natterson is a pediatrician and New York Times best -selling author of 10 books including the Care and Keeping of You series and Vanessa Kroll Bennett is a best -selling author and puberty educator. Together, they're two of the most trusted voices on puberty, co -authoring the national bestseller, This Is So Awkward: Modern Puberty Explained, and co -hosting This is So Awkward, the podcast. Cara and Vanessa run Less Awkward, the first company aimed at making puberty more comfortable with a membership for parents, an innovative health and sex ed curriculum for schools, and game -changing products. Cara and Vanessa speak to audiences across the country using science and humor to encourage open, albeit awkward, conversations. A relatable, reliable approach to help keep kids safe and healthy. They don't just hand out this advice, they live it. Between them, they are raising six teenagers. Y 'all, I'm so stoked for you to dive into this episode and to tune in to This is So Awkward, the podcast, and snag their book, This Is So Awkward. All right, folks, let's dive in.

We also get into what this looks like in real life, from sensory needs and neurodivergence to those chaotic, get-out-the-door mornings where it’s hard to slow down and see what’s actually going on.

393- Beyond Birth Prep: The Emotional Work of Becoming a Parent, with Nina Spears
Show notes
You’re listening to Voices of Your Village, and today we’re talking about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention when we think about becoming parents.
We spend so much time preparing for the baby—reading the books, building the registry, thinking about birth—but not nearly as much time preparing for what it actually feels like to become a parent.
In this episode, I’m joined by Nina Spears, and we’re digging into what it really looks like to prepare for pregnancy, birth, and those early postpartum days in a way that goes beyond information and into real-life support.
We talk about why so many of us go into parenthood expecting to be in control—and what happens when we realize we’re not, how pregnancy can actually be a time to build the skills we’ll rely on later, and why things like nervous system awareness, communication, and flexibility matter more than any perfect plan.
We also get into the pressure parents carry to “get it right,” how to shift out of that, and what it looks like to advocate for yourself so you can show up for your family in a way that feels grounded and sustainable.
If you’ve ever thought, “I’ll figure it out when the baby gets here,” or you’re in the thick of early parenthood wondering why it feels harder than expected, this one’s for you.

Not because you don’t care. Not because you don’t know what to do. But because your capacity is maxed out.
I’m joined by Dr. Cassidy Freitas, licensed marriage and family therapist and author of Mom Needs a Moment, and we’re unpacking the shame spiral that so many parents fall into, and why understanding your own limits is actually a critical part of showing up for your kids.
We talk about what it looks like to take space without guilt, how shame keeps us stuck while guilt can actually guide us, and why repair matters more than getting it right in the moment. We also get into how our own childhood experiences show up in our parenting, especially in the moments that feel the most charged.
This isn’t about becoming a perfect parent. It’s about understanding what’s happening inside you so you can respond with more clarity, more intention, and a whole lot more compassion.
Alright folks, let’s dive in.

391- Calm Corners Aren’t Working—Here’s Why, with Sarah Habib
Show notes
You’re listening to Voices of Your Village, and today we’re talking about something I see in almost every classroom I walk into: calm corners.
They’re everywhere. And on paper, they make a lot of sense. But in practice? A lot of teachers are telling me the same thing: it’s not working.
In this episode, I’m joined by Sarah Habib, and we’re breaking down why. We talk about the biggest mistakes we make when setting up calm corners, why tools alone don’t change behavior, and what kids actually need in order to use those spaces in a meaningful way.
We get into pre-teaching, modeling, and why this work has to go beyond the classroom and include families too. And we talk about what it looks like to build regulation skills in a way that actually sticks.
If you’ve ever set something up with the best intentions and then wondered why it’s not landing, this one’s going to give you a really clear path forward.

390- The Thoughts That Shape Your Day (and What to Do With Them), with Dr. Rachel Goldman, PhD
Show notes
You’re listening to Voices of Your Village, and today we’re talking about something I think so many of us are feeling right now: life is hard.
And not in a “just think positive” kind of way-- In a real, full, sometimes overwhelming kind of way.
In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Rachel, and we’re diving into how we can acknowledge that reality without getting stuck there. We talk about the difference between toxic positivity and actually supporting ourselves through hard moments, how our thoughts shape how we feel and what we do next, and why you don’t have to overhaul your entire life to start feeling better.
This conversation is really about coming back to what’s actually in your control, building a toolbox that works for you, and taking one small, doable step at a time.
Alright folks, let’s dive in.
