The Ben Azadi Show
Your body isn't broken. It's blocked.Twenty years ago Ben Azadi was obese, exhausted, and convinced something was permanently wrong with him. Nothing was. His cells weren't getting the signal. Once they did, everything changed — and it's stayed changed for two decades.
Ben is a 2x New York Times bestselling author (Metabolic Freedom, Keto Flex), international keynote speaker, and a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. But here's what he's learned after two decades and thousands of transformations: knowing what to do isn't what changes your life. Becoming the person who actually does it — that's what changes your life.
That's what this show is built for. Three episodes a week, each with a job:
Metabolic Monday — Conversations with world-renowned doctors, researchers, and health experts on the latest breakthroughs in metabolic health and longevity. Fasting, insulin resistance, stubborn belly fat, hormones, mitochondria, blood sugar, gut health, ketosis, carnivore, and biohacking — translated into something you can actually run this week.
Transformation Tuesday — The mindset, habits, and daily practices behind following through. Paradigms, self-image, identity, and the inner work that makes results permanent instead of temporary.
Freedom Friday — Real conversations about freedom in every area of life. Not just metabolic freedom, but freedom with your time, your purpose, your energy, and the way you show up in the world.
If you're over 40 and doing everything right while the scale won't move — start here.
Ben's mission is to educate one billion people. You're one of them.
New episodes every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

I Quit These 5 Foods & Finally Lost Belly Fat (Beats Fasting) | #1398
Show notes
Starving by 10 a.m. and in the fridge at 11 p.m.? It’s not willpower. Ben shares the five foods he cut out to lose 19 pounds in 30 days, and why his cravings stopped first.
Back in 2007, I thought I had a willpower problem. I was hungry all the time, starving by 10 a.m. and raiding the fridge at night. Then I cut five specific foods out completely, and within 30 days I lost 19 pounds. Here’s what nobody told me: the cravings stopped first. In this episode, I walk you through those five foods, the research behind them, and what to expect when you cut them out.
If you feel like you’re at war with your body around food, this one’s for you.
In this solo episode, I share the five foods I removed in 2007 that helped me lose 19 pounds in 30 days and end my cravings. You don’t have a weight problem. You have a weight symptom, driven by hormones and inflammation. We don’t lose weight to get healthy. We get healthy to lose weight.
I cover Kevin Hall’s NIH study on ultra-processed food, then break down the five foods: liquid sugar, ultra-processed breads, boxed comfort foods, seed oil dressings and condiments, and alcohol. Plus the protein target I give all my students to quiet hunger hormones.
This was never a character flaw. It was a biological response.

Why You're Exhausted After 40 (It's NOT Just Aging!) NAD, Creatine, And The Enzyme Draining Your Cellular Energy | Baran Dilaver #1397

You sleep 8 hours and still wake up tired, and everyone tells you it's just age. Baran Dilaver explains what may actually be happening inside your cells: the molecule your mitochondria depend on, the enzyme that eats it faster every year, and why the expensive IV drip might not be the best way to get it back.
If you had zero NAD in your body, you'd be dead in 10 seconds.
That's how fundamental this molecule is. It's involved in over 500 enzymatic processes, and about 70% of it goes toward producing energy. But as we get older, our NAD levels drop, and an enzyme called CD38 ramps up and starts shredding what's left.
So most people over 40 are fighting on two fronts. They're making less energy, and they're losing it faster.
That's why I wanted to sit down with Baran Dilaver, co-founder and CEO of Wonderfeel. We get into what's really draining your cellular battery, whether NAD IVs live up to the hype, and why creatine might be the missing partner to NAD that most people overlook.
That afternoon crash around 2 or 3 PM? It's common, but it isn't normal.
In this episode, I sit down with Baran Dilaver, co-founder and CEO of Wonderfeel, to talk about NAD, creatine, mitochondrial health, and what may be draining your energy as you age. NAD powers hundreds of processes in your cells, and when levels drop, it may not just show up as fatigue. It can show up as brain fog, mental fatigue, and organs that just don't work the way they used to.
Baran explains NAD with an analogy I won't forget: a river feeding a valley full of farms and villages. When the river runs low, every valley suffers differently. That's why two people with the same root cause can have completely different symptoms.
We also get into CD38, the enzyme Dr. Andrew Salzman calls the "NAD shredder," and why focusing only on boosting NAD while ignoring what drains it may leave you missing half the equation.
Then we tackle a question I get all the time: are NAD IVs worth it? Baran breaks down why NAD struggles to get inside your cells, what the research shows about oral precursors like NMN, and why he still keeps an open mind about IVs. He also shares a warning about NMN product quality you'll want to hear before you buy anything online.
Plus: why NAD makes the energy but creatine delivers it, the nutrient your body can't make that collects where tissue is damaged, the longevity breakthroughs Baran sees coming in the next 5 to 10 years, and why loneliness may matter as much as any supplement.
If you're dealing with low energy, brain fog, or just want to age slower, this one's for you.
Baran Dilaver is the co-founder and CEO of Wonderfeel, a longevity-focused wellness biosciences company known for its Youngr™ NMN supplement and ChocoCreatin™ bars.
A UC Berkeley graduate and former scholarship athlete there, Baran led companies as CEO before going all in on NAD research. Since meeting Dr. Andrew Salzman in 2017, he has worked closely with him to develop Wonderfeel's formulas, with a focus on cellular energy, mitochondrial health, and slowing down aging.

Why Every 1950s Woman Stayed Skinny (The Food Industry HATES This) | The Ben Azadi Show #1396
Show notes
Your grandmother ate butter, eggs, bacon, and whole milk, never counted a calorie, and probably never said the word “diet.” In this episode, I break down what changed between her kitchen and yours, why it was never about willpower, and the simple things worth bringing back from 1955.
In 1960, about 13% of American adults were obese. Today, projections put that number close to 50%.
Our genetics didn’t change in two generations. Our discipline didn’t collapse. So what happened?
In this episode, I walk through the story of a woman who kept a kitchen ledger for 51 years, and what her grocery lists reveal about snacking, breakfast, the war on fat, and the oils that quietly took over the American food supply. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
Losing weight today feels harder than ever, even though we have more nutrition information than any generation in history.
In this solo episode, I compare the 1950s kitchen with the modern one and show why the problem was never a lack of willpower. It was the environment.
You’ll learn:
•
What a 51-year kitchen ledger reveals about how an ordinary American woman actually ate
•
Why snacking may keep your insulin from ever coming back down, even when the snacks are “healthy”
•
How the modern breakfast may set you up to be starving by 10 a.m.
•
How butter and lard got replaced by margarine, Crisco, and “heart healthy” spreads
•
What happened when fat was removed from food and replaced with sugar
•
The more than 1,000-fold rise in soybean oil consumption in the 20th century
•
The one food I’d bring back into your kitchen first, and how to tell if yours is high quality
•
How liquid calories, ultra-processed food, lost daily movement, and random meal timing all add up
If you’ve been blaming yourself for struggling with your weight, this episode may change how you see the whole problem.

3 Breakfast Foods That Help Empty Liver Fat (Not What You Think) | #1395
Show notes
Over 1 in 3 adults have fatty liver, and most have no idea. In this episode, I share 3 everyday breakfast foods that may help your liver release stored fat, the one ingredient that ties them together, and why eating them separately might be the reason they haven’t worked for you.
You can eat less, try harder, and do everything “right” and still not lose belly fat.
The problem might not be your effort. It might be your liver.
Your liver is your most important fat-burning organ. When it gets backed up with fat, your body may struggle to pull from stored fat, especially around your belly. In this episode, I break down 3 breakfast foods that support your liver from different angles, the human studies behind them, and the simple combination most people miss.
Fat loss doesn’t start in your stomach. It starts in your liver.
In this solo episode, I explain why so many people with fatty liver have no symptoms, and how a backed-up liver may keep your body from burning stored fat. Then I share the 3 breakfast foods I recommend to help your liver unload fat and get fat burning moving again.
You’ll learn:
•
The nutrient in egg yolks your liver needs to package fat and ship it out, and the research linking higher intake to about a 30% lower risk of fatty liver
•
What happened to liver enzymes in a 12-week study when people with fatty liver added extra virgin olive oil
•
The 24-week yogurt study that found reductions in liver fat, ALT, and fasting insulin
•
How your gut acts like a control panel for your liver, and why the wrong breakfast may tell your body to store fat
•
Why avocado may help flip your body from storing fat to burning it
•
The ingredient I call the “multiplier,” and how to tell if yours is doing anything at all
•
My grocery store trick for picking a better bottle of olive oil
•
How long it may take to see changes in your liver labs
If you’ve been eating “healthy” and still feel stuck, especially with belly fat, this episode may show you what’s missing.

Red light devices are everywhere right now, in masks, belts, boots, and even toothbrushes. Most of them can’t deliver a dose that does anything. In this episode, Bjørn Ekeberg explains how to tell the difference, the one feature to look for before you buy, and why using more red light can actually cancel out the benefits.
Earlier this year, Scientific American ran a feature where researchers said device companies are giving red light therapy a bad name. One even suggested you just go outside instead.
So is red light therapy overhyped, or are most people just using it wrong?
In this episode, Bjørn Ekeberg, co-founder of Recharge Health and CEO of FlexBeam, joins me in person to break down what photobiomodulation actually does, which wavelengths reach deep into your tissue, why distance from a panel matters more than you think, and the red flags that separate real devices from expensive gadgets.
Red light therapy has exploded in popularity, but a lot of what’s on the market doesn’t deliver what it promises.
In this episode, Bjørn Ekeberg and I separate the science from the hype. Bjørn explains why the dose that reaches your skin matters more than how bright a device looks, and why consistency is what drives results.
You’ll learn:
•
What photobiomodulation actually does inside your cells and mitochondria
•
The difference between red and near-infrared light, and which one can penetrate 2 to 3 inches into the body
•
How much power a typical panel may lose just 10 inches away from your skin
•
The wavelength ranges that matter most, and what happens beyond them
•
Why a device with hundreds of LEDs may still be too weak to do anything
•
The one feature that can help you spot an underpowered device
•
A study Bjørn shares where ICU patients using red light left intensive care 30% faster
•
FlexBeam’s published study on mitochondrial efficiency, and what changed in people with chronic fatigue after one month
•
Why “more is better” is the biggest red light myth
•
Who should be cautious, including with the thyroid, and when you need eye protection
If you’re curious about red light therapy for energy, pain, recovery, sleep, or gut health, this episode will help you use it the right way and avoid wasting money.

If Your Body Does This, Your Kidneys Could Be Failing | The Ben Azadi Show #1393

Your kidneys can lose up to 80% of their function before you notice a single symptom. In this episode, I share the earliest sign your body may give you, why it can show up even when your labs look normal, and the 7-step protocol I teach to support your kidneys starting tomorrow morning.
Kidney trouble doesn’t usually start with pain. It starts with quiet signals most people brush off.
A little foam in the toilet. Puffy eyes in the morning. Waking up two or three times a night to pee. A strange metallic taste you can’t explain.
By the time standard labs flag a problem, a lot of damage may already be done. In this episode, I walk through the 7 early warning signs, the root causes most people never connect to their kidneys, and what you can start doing today to give your kidneys the support they need.
Most people assume their kidneys are fine as long as their labs come back normal. But kidney decline is often silent, and your body may be sending signals long before a lab test catches it.
In this solo episode, I break down:
•
The #1 early warning sign of kidney stress, and why you should pay attention to it first thing in the morning
•
7 warning signs most people ignore, from fatigue and puffy eyes to itchy skin and nighttime urination
•
Why GFR may drop long after damage has already started
•
The 5 root causes of kidney decline, including insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, high uric acid, and a common painkiller habit
•
The hidden source of fructose that may be raising your uric acid (it’s not just soda)
•
Why fasting insulin may tell you more than your blood sugar or A1C
•
My 7-step kidney support protocol, including a simple morning drink, the fats I recommend, 4 optional supplements, and the “vitamin” that costs nothing
•
Whether keto or high protein can hurt your kidneys, and how much water you actually need
If you’ve been dealing with unexplained fatigue, swelling, or frequent nighttime bathroom trips, this episode will help you understand what your body might be trying to tell you.

This Liquid Helps Melt Belly Fat & Lowers Cortisol | The Ben Azadi Show #1392
Show notes
That bottle of olive oil in your kitchen? It might be doing nothing for you. Or worse. In this episode, I share the 10-second test that tells you if your olive oil is real, the one way I refuse to use it, and the exact daily protocol I follow to support cortisol, blood sugar, and fat burning.
If your olive oil goes down smooth, that’s a red flag.
Most people think they’re doing something healthy every time they pour olive oil on a salad. But if it’s oxidized, cut with seed oils, or taken at the wrong time, you may be missing most of what makes it powerful.
In this episode, I break down how the right olive oil, taken at the right time and paired with the right foods, may influence your insulin, cortisol, inflammation, and even your brain. And I’ll show you the simple test I want you to do with the olive oil in your pantry today.
Olive oil is one of the most researched foods in the world. So why aren’t more people getting results from it?
In this solo episode, I explain why the type, timing, and pairing of your olive oil matter more than most people realize.
You’ll learn:
• How extra virgin olive oil may activate PPAR-alpha, a gene tied to fat burning, ketone production, and lower triglycerides
• Why one tablespoon before your largest meal was linked to glucose spikes up to 35% lower in a small study
• The truth about the “cortisol belly,” and how olive oil polyphenols may support your stress response and lower chronic inflammation
• The cooking oil study that tested 10 popular oils under high heat, and which ones produced the most harmful compounds
• The 4 biggest olive oil mistakes, and the one way I never use it
• The throat-burn taste test that tells you if your olive oil is loaded with polyphenols
• My one-day olive oil protocol, including my morning shot and an optional strategy if you wake up at 3 a.m. feeling wired and tiredIf you’re over 40 and struggling with belly fat, brain fog, low energy, or high cortisol, this episode will change the way you use olive oil.

It’s Not Insulin: Why Your Body Is Protecting Your Belly Fat | Josh Trent #1391
Show notes
If you’ve followed every belly fat protocol perfectly and still can’t lose weight, the missing piece may have very little to do with food. It may be that your body doesn’t feel safe enough to let go.
In this episode, Ben Azadi sits down with Josh Trent, host of the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast and creator of the Liberated Life Tribe, to explore the emotional side of stubborn weight and why so many people stall even when they do everything “right.” Josh went from 280 pounds to a decade as a personal trainer. He explains how a reverse breathing pattern can keep the nervous system braced for threat, and why he believes chronic stress makes it so hard to release old weight. He also shares what happened to his own HRV and resting heart rate during three months on retatrutide. Then he introduces emotional epigenetics, the idea that unconscious beliefs and emotional patterns can carry through families. If you know what to do but can’t seem to do it, Josh’s simple four-step model may show you exactly where you’re getting stuck.
About the Guest
Josh Trent is the host of the Wellness + Wisdom Podcast, which has published more than 850 episodes over 11 years, and creator of the Liberated Life Tribe. A former personal trainer who once weighed 280 pounds, Josh teaches breathwork, emotional intelligence and what he calls emotional epigenetics.

The Real Reason You're Not Losing Fat After 40 (It's Not Just Calories) | Doug Bopst #1390
Show notes
Why does losing belly fat become more challenging after 40, even with consistent exercise and calorie restriction?
In this episode of The Ben Azadi Show, Ben Azadi welcomes fitness expert, author, and podcast host Doug Bopst for an in-depth conversation about the factors influencing fat loss, metabolic health, and body composition as we age.
Together, they challenge conventional weight-loss strategies, exploring why simply eating less and exercising more may not always deliver sustainable results. The discussion examines the roles of insulin resistance, metabolic flexibility, muscle preservation, and hormonal responses in the body's ability to manage energy and stored fat.
Ben and Doug also explore how fasting, meal timing, sleep quality, and stress management can influence metabolic health, emphasizing the importance of developing sustainable habits rather than relying exclusively on calorie restriction or intense exercise.
Throughout the conversation, they offer practical insights into optimizing health after 40, highlighting the value of understanding individual metabolic needs and building a long-term approach to fat loss, physical performance, and overall well-being.

Keto Flex: How To Burn Fat, Reboot Your Metabolism, And Avoid The Hidden Risks Of Long-Term Keto | The Ben Azadi Show #1389
Show notes
My friend Chris was doing one meal a day in a calorie deficit for years and still carried over 100 pounds of extra fat. I tripled his calories, stopped his fasting, and he lost 70 pounds in a few months. In this episode, Dr. David Jockers and I explain why your metabolism responds to signals, not math, and how to use keto and fasting without letting them backfire.
Keto works. Fasting works. That's exactly why so many people end up overdoing them.
There are two kinds of metabolic inflexibility. The first is the one 93% of Americans are stuck in: they can only burn sugar. But there's a second kind that hides inside the keto and fasting world. It's the person who's been in ketosis so long their body forgot how to handle carbs, and their hormones start paying the price.
In this conversation, Dr. David Jockers and I break down how to get the benefits of ketosis without the drawbacks: why higher ketones aren't better, why the timing of your meals may matter more than you think, and why the most important fat-loss window happens while you're asleep.
What if you've been doing keto "right," and that's exactly the problem?
In this episode, Dr. David Jockers and I dig into ketosis as a metabolic process, not just a diet, and why most people never learned how to use it properly. We cover how to test ketones the right way, why chasing the highest number can be a mistake, and the blood ketone range I consider the sweet spot for fat loss and longevity.
I explain the core idea behind Keto Flex: getting fat adapted first, then intentionally flexing in and out of ketosis. We get into what long-term strict keto may do to thyroid markers, testosterone, and cortisol, and what a proper flex day looks like (hint: it's not high carb and high fat at the same time).
Then we get into fasting and meal timing. I share a study that changed my mind about breakfast, the one rule I'd make everyone follow if they took only one thing from this episode, and why the hours right after you fall asleep may matter more for fat loss than your time in the gym.
Plus: the two biggest keto mistakes I see, why your liver might be the real reason fat "doesn't agree with you," a client who lost about 70 pounds after pausing his 5 AM workouts, and why tripling someone's calories helped him lose weight.
If you've tried keto or fasting and hit a wall, this one will change how you approach them.

Dr. Paul Saladino and I tier rank exercise, nutrition, supplements, sleep, and biohacks to show what actually moves the needle on visceral fat, and why your hunger may be the real problem.
Eat less. Move more.
It's the advice almost everyone gets when the doctor says their waistline is too big. And it can work, for a while. Then the weight comes back, often with extra.
Dr. Paul Saladino argues that's because calorie counting ignores the real question: why are you so hungry in the first place? His answer starts in a small part of your brain that controls whether you feel full, and what the modern food supply may be doing to it.
In this episode, Paul and I build a 30-day plan for losing visceral fat, the hard, round belly fat wrapped around your organs. We rank exercise, foods, supplements, sleep habits, and biohacks from S tier to D tier. Some of the rankings surprised even me.
You can't pinch visceral fat. It sits around your organs, drains straight to your liver, and Dr. Paul Saladino calls it the center of insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction.
In this episode, Paul and I break down what visceral fat is, how it forms when your body runs out of room to store fat safely, and the simple, inexpensive lab test both of us think everyone should get, even if your blood sugar looks normal.
Then we put everything to the test with a tier list. We rank exercise for visceral fat, from post-meal walks to marathon running, and Paul shares why he used to run ultramarathons and wouldn't recommend chronic cardio now. We also respectfully disagree on fasted training.
On nutrition, Paul explains how he went from carnivore to animal-based to what he calls "Food For Humans," why he believes calories are a psyop, and how processed foods may disrupt the part of your brain that tells you you're full. He also shares his view on GLP-1 medications: what they do well, and the side effect that worries him most.
Plus, Paul ranks creatine, magnesium, vitamin D, fish oil, and berberine, explains why light flicker at night may be hurting your sleep, and tells us why he won't eat at restaurants with LED lighting.
If you want to lose stubborn belly fat without white-knuckling your way through another diet, this is one to watch.

There Are 5 Types Of Wealth… Most People Only Chase One | The Ben Azadi Show #1387
Show notes
Would you rather be 90 with a billion dollars, or 20 with your health, your relationships, and your whole life ahead of you? Most people answer that instantly. Then they spend their lives living the opposite way. Alex and I break down the five types of wealth and why chasing only one of them could leave you rich and empty at the same time.
When you hear the word wealth, what's the first thing that comes to mind?
Money. For almost everyone.
But money is just one of five types of wealth, and it's not the biggest one. You can hit your financial goals and still be broke in time, health, relationships, and peace of mind. Alex knows this firsthand. He was building a business, traveling across the country, and working nonstop "for the family." Then his marriage ended.
In this episode, we talk about what real wealth looks like, why reaching your goal can still feel empty, and how to stop climbing a mountain you never really wanted to be on.
What if you're chasing the wrong kind of rich?
In this episode, Alex and I break down the five types of wealth from Sahil Bloom's book: time, social, mental, physical, and financial wealth. Most people only measure one of them. And when money becomes the only scoreboard, everything else quietly starts to fall apart.
Alex opens up about the moment he realized he'd prioritized business so hard that his marriage paid the price, and what he does differently now. We get into why money is like a magnifying glass, why reaching a big goal can feel strangely empty, and the definition of success that completely changed how I think about goals.
We also talk about the question that makes everything clear: would you trade places with a 90-year-old billionaire? Plus, why I believe in dying with zero, the biggest regret people are likely to have at 80, and the story of a single conversation that almost stopped Bob Proctor before he ever started.
Alex also shares how he got turned down by 30 to 40 investors before raising $1.45 million, and why the next wedding photo, business milestone, or number in your bank account isn't where the wealth actually lives.
If you're an entrepreneur, a high achiever, or someone who's hit the goal and still feels like something is missing, this one's for you.

If I Only Had 7 Days To Drop The Cortisol Belly | The Ben Azadi Show #1386
Show notes
You're eating clean, exercising, and trying to sleep on time, but that round, hard belly won't budge. In this episode, I share the exact 7-day plan I'd follow if I had one week to start reversing cortisol belly. Almost every step is free, and none of them involve working harder.
You're eating clean. You're working out. You're going to bed on time.
And the belly still won't budge.
Here's something most people don't know: the area around your vital organs has about three times as many cortisol receptors as other parts of your body. So when you're chronically stressed, your body may be far more likely to store fat right there, around your belly.
Alex learned this the hard way. Two weeks off after eye surgery, a little travel, a few extra sweets, and he could literally feel the inflammation in his belly. With his wedding less than 45 days away, he asked me one question: if you only had 7 days, what would you do?
This episode is my answer.
Why does belly fat stick around even when you feel like you're doing everything right?
In this episode, Alex and I break down cortisol belly: what it is, why it's different from the fat you can pinch, and why your body may hold onto visceral fat when it thinks it's under threat. Your body can't tell the difference between a tiger chasing you and stress from your finances, your commute, or a late-night argument. To your body, it's all a threat, and threats tell it to store fat.
So the goal isn't to fight harder. It's to change the signal.
I walk through a simple 7-day plan where you stack one new habit each day, starting with the change I believe has the biggest impact on your deep sleep. We talk about why scrolling first thing in the morning and watching intense shows before bed could be working against you, and the "palate cleanse" trick my wife and I use at night. I also share the four daily habits I'd keep if I had to simplify everything.
Alex gets real about how wedding stress, poor deep sleep, and a few weeks off track showed up in his body. I share what happened to my own stress levels after a few days of eating off-plan in Mexico.
We also get into why more workouts, more restriction, and more fasting can sometimes make things worse, and why getting good at the "get back" matters more than avoiding setbacks.
If you're dealing with stubborn belly fat, high stress, or poor sleep, start here.

7 Hidden Triggers That Cause Visceral Fat, Age You Faster & Damage Your Liver | Dr. Eric Berg #1385
Show notes
What if your weight, hunger, sleep, and belly fat aren't controlled by food alone?
Dr. Eric Berg joins Ben Azadi to reveal how the environment around you can influence your metabolism, insulin, stress, sleep, movement, dopamine, and even your relationship with food. From the cues in your kitchen to the light you see at night, the amount of time you spend sitting, and how often you check your phone, your daily environment may be shaping your health more than you realize.
Dr. Eric Berg joins Ben Azadi to explore a bigger question: What if changing your environment is just as important as changing your diet?
Drawing from his new book Change Your Environments, Dr. Berg explains how modern life can create constant triggers for eating, sedentary behavior, poor sleep, stress, distraction, and isolation. He shares why environmental cues can drive eating even when you're not physically hungry, how repeated insulin spikes can interfere with fat burning, and why morning sunlight and consistent sleep timing can be powerful environmental inputs.
The conversation also explores movement and physical work, the hidden cost of constantly checking your phone, loneliness as a threat signal, chemical exposure, indoor air quality, liver fat, and the nutrients Dr. Berg believes are important to consider. Rather than focusing on one isolated habit, the episode looks at how multiple environmental factors can stack together and influence metabolic health, stress, recovery, and everyday behavior.
Dr. Eric Berg is a chiropractor, health educator, and longtime health content creator with approximately 40 years of experience in practice. He is known for his large health-focused online audience and joins Ben to discuss his new book, Change Your Environments.
In this conversation, Dr. Berg shares his perspective on how food cues, light, sleep, movement, technology, social connection, chemical exposure, and nutrition can influence the environment in which our health decisions take place.

Metabolic Freedom: Insulin Resistance, Seed Oils, And What 90 Days Of Carnivore Did To My Cholesterol | The Ben Azadi Show #1384
Show notes
Your blood sugar can look perfectly normal for up to 14 years while insulin resistance quietly builds underneath.
Dave Asprey and I get into why most doctors never test for it, why the restaurant "tallow fries" you ordered may not be what you think, and what happened to my cholesterol, gut bacteria, and inflammation markers after 90 straight days of carnivore.
93% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy. In 2018, that number was 88%. It's getting worse, not better.
And most people won't find out until years after the damage starts, because the test that could catch it early usually isn't ordered.
There's no medication for high insulin, so why check?
In this conversation, Dave Asprey and I go after the things that keep people stuck as sugar burners: high insulin, seed oils hiding in "healthy" menu items, oxalates in so-called superfoods, and the idea that your metabolism slows down just because you got older.
Spoiler: a 6,800-person study says otherwise.
What if your labs look fine and you're still years into a metabolic problem?
In this episode, I sit down with biohacker Dave Asprey to talk about why so many people are stuck burning sugar, and what it takes to get your metabolic flexibility back.
We start with insulin, the marker most doctors skip, and why a fasting insulin over 6 may be a warning sign even when your glucose and A1C look normal.
Dave and I also break down why high insulin, not salt, may be what's pushing your blood pressure up.
From there, we get into seed oils and why "high smoke point" doesn't mean what most people think. A study on cooking oils found that the oils with the highest smoke points produced the most harmful polar compounds, while one oil most people are told not to cook with produced the least.
Dave and I don't fully agree on this one, and that's part of the fun.
I also share the results of my 90-day carnivore experiment, including full blood work, stool tests, and a review from a heart surgeon.
My total cholesterol went from 300 to 450. What the rest of my markers showed may surprise you. Dave shares his own carnivore experiment, which went very differently, and we talk about where the upper limit should be.
Plus: how Dave gave himself gout in three days, why almond flour gave me recurring styes, the right way to think about gut diversity, and why your metabolism isn't fast or slow, it's efficient or inefficient.
If you care about insulin resistance, seed oils, keto, carnivore, fasting, gut health, or longevity, this one's for you.
About Dave Asprey
Dave Asprey is a biohacker, entrepreneur, and host of The Human Upgrade podcast.
He founded Bulletproof and wrote The Bulletproof Diet, one of the first major books to bring intermittent fasting and keto to a mainstream audience. He's also the author of Heavily Meditated and the founder of Danger Coffee, and he's involved with Upgrade Labs.
After losing 50 pounds in three months on keto, Dave spent the next decade experimenting to lose the last 50. That journey shaped his data-driven approach to metabolic flexibility, longevity, and biohacking.

Metabolic Flexibility: How To Burn Fat, Improve Energy, And Break Free From Metabolic Dysfunction | Dylan Gemelli #1383
Show notes
What if the goal of keto isn't to stay in ketosis forever, but to become flexible enough to move in and out of it?
What if your metabolism isn't simply “fast” or “slow,” but adaptable or inflexible?
Dylan Gemelli joins Ben Azadi to challenge the idea that metabolic health requires following one rigid diet forever.
They break down ketosis, fasting, protein, meal timing, sleep, and the “kitchen closed” rule, while explaining why becoming metabolically flexible may matter more than staying in ketosis year-round.
Keto doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing lifestyle.
In this episode, Dylan Gemelli joins Ben Azadi to explore metabolic flexibility and why the ability to switch between different fuel sources may be more important than constantly chasing ketosis.
Dylan shares how his approach to keto, fasting, protein, and metabolic health has evolved over the years, including why he no longer believes everyone should remain in ketosis continuously.
The conversation dives into the role of insulin, fasting, protein intake, carbohydrates, meal timing, and sleep, including Dylan's “kitchen closed” rule: finishing food at least three hours before bed.
Ben and Dylan also discuss why late-night eating may affect metabolic health differently than eating earlier in the day, why protein can influence hunger and nighttime cravings, and how better sleep can support the body's ability to recover and regulate appetite.
The bigger message is simple: instead of becoming attached to one protocol, learn how to make your metabolism more adaptable.

Jumper Cables for Your Mitochondria: How PEMF & Red Light Tackle Inflammation, Hashimoto's, Poor Sleep & Stubborn Belly Fat | Jonathan Otto #1382
Show notes
What if the next step in your health journey isn't another complicated protocol, but understanding how your body responds to light, energy, and the right environment?
Red light therapy and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) have become increasingly popular in conversations around longevity and regenerative health. But how do these technologies actually work, and what should you look for when evaluating them?
In this episode, Ben Azadi sits down with filmmaker and researcher Jonathan Otto to explore the ideas and research surrounding red light, PEMF, mitochondria, ATP, inflammation, cellular signaling, and the body's regenerative processes.
Jonathan shares how he evaluates different devices, including the measurements and testing methods he uses to better understand what a device is actually producing.
The conversation also explores different wavelengths and frequencies, how these technologies may be combined, and why foundational health habits still matter alongside emerging technologies.
Ben and Jonathan also discuss the potential applications of red light and PEMF in areas such as eyesight, mitochondrial function, circulation, and recovery, while exploring a broader question: how much regenerative potential does the human body already have?

You’re Allowed to Outgrow Your Old Life: 5 Signs It’s Time for a Change | #1381
Show notes
What if the life you’re living isn’t wrong, but simply no longer fits who you’re becoming?
Sometimes transformation isn’t about fixing a broken life. It’s about recognizing when your habits, routines, relationships, or expectations no longer align with the person you’re becoming.
In this episode, Ben Azadi shares five signs that you may have outgrown an older version of yourself, from chronic complaining and waking up with dread to feeling uninspired, living for the weekend, and relying on routines that numb rather than fulfill you.
Ben also explores why waiting for “things to settle down” can keep you stuck, how other people’s expectations can influence the life you choose, and why giving yourself permission to change may be the first step toward living more intentionally.

The First 60 Minutes After Waking: 3 Morning Habits for Fat Loss & Feeling Better All Day | #1380
Show notes
Your morning doesn't need to be complicated to make a difference.
In this Transformation Tuesday episode, Ben Azadi breaks down three simple habits to prioritize after waking:
light before screens, water before coffee, and protein before carbs.
Ben explains why the order of your morning routine matters and how small, consistent changes can influence your energy, cravings, eating decisions, and overall daily routine.
He also addresses three common mistakes: reaching for your phone immediately, drinking caffeine before hydrating, and starting your first meal with carbohydrates without enough protein.
The goal isn't perfection. Ben encourages listeners to choose one habit, practice it consistently for seven days, and then build on it with the next.
