Wise Traditions

Alternative Health, Health & Fitness

The Weston A. Price Foundation's Wise Traditions podcast is for those who seek optimal health grounded in traditional wisdom. We believe that vibrant health cannot be cultivated in a lab, engineered through modern technology or found by "improving" nature. On the contrary, "Life in all its fullness is Mother Nature obeyed," as Dr. Weston A. Price observed. By learning from healthy societies of the past, we can rediscover how to live healthier lives today.

The Foundation's podcast is an invitation to explore traditional food and healthways that support true vitality. Host and producer Kendall Nelson interviews leading experts on a wide range of topics—ranging from preparing traditional foods, nutrient-dense diets, organ meats and animal fats to grass-based farming, natural detoxification, the power of sunshine and mitigating EMFs. Each episode offers listeners practical insights and timeless wisdom to help them heal, grow and live more vibrant, fulfilling lives.

  1. From Inflammation To Repair: Rethinking Autoimmunity With Dr. Leland Stillman

    Episode 603

    Show notes

What if autoimmunity isn't simply the body attacking itself, but the body struggling to repair itself? Dr. Leland Stillman, author of The End of Autoimmunity, offers a different way of understanding chronic illness, one that looks beyond a diagnosis to the diet, lifestyle, toxins, stressors and environmental exposures that may be contributing to what he calls a "repair deficit."

Dr. Stillman explains his five-part framework for healing, shares practical habits that can help restore the body, and discusses why sunlight, real food, movement, clean water, darkness at night and human connection matter more than we may realize. He also shares challenging patient cases and explains why identifying and removing what is harming the body can be just as important as adding therapies. He also describes his vision of a healthier future built around real food, local communities, less technology and a return to the rhythms our bodies were designed for.

  2. What Traditional Cultures Can Teach Us About Raising Healthy Children With Mariélli Pahim

    Episode 602

    Show notes

What can traditional cultures teach us about fertility, pregnancy, babies, and lifelong health?

Nutritionist Mariélli Pahim spent 15 years traveling through more than 35 countries, living and working alongside indigenous and traditional communities and observing how they grow, prepare, and eat their food. Along the way, she discovered remarkable similarities across cultures—from the importance of animal foods and organ meats to fermentation, traditional food preparation, and the role of community.

In this episode, Mariélli shares how her experiences in places like Tonga, Fiji, Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, and Norway challenged what she had learned in conventional nutrition school—and how discovering the work of Dr. Weston A. Price and Sally Fallon Morell helped her connect the dots.

She also explains why preparing for pregnancy begins with both the mother and the father, the nutrient-dense foods she emphasizes during pregnancy, and what traditional cultures understand about nourishing women during the critical postpartum period. Mariélli shares the unusual first foods she gave her own son, including fish eggs and reindeer, and why she believes restoring ancestral food traditions can give children a healthier start in life.

Finally, Mariélli offers one simple place to begin if you want to bring ancestral nutrition into your own kitchen today.

  3. Under The Microscope: What's Really In The COVID Shots? With Shimon Yanowitz

    Episode 601

    Show notes

What's really inside the COVID shots?

Electrical engineer and independent researcher Shimon Yanowitz decided he wanted to see for himself. Drawing on his background in semiconductor fabrication and industrial microscopy, Shimon began examining samples of the COVID injections under a microscope, and says what he observed led him down a years-long investigation into nanotechnology, engineering, and the scientific literature.

In this episode, Shimon describes the unusual structures he says he observed in the samples, including ribbons, filaments, and formations resembling electronic circuitry. He explains how he watched some of these structures develop in real time and why he believes what he saw is evidence of self-assembling nanotechnology.

Shimon also discusses his research into DARPA documents and scientific literature, his concerns about the potential effects of these technologies in the human body, and his own experience of becoming ill after working closely with the injectable material. Finally, he shares findings from his recently published paper, From Synthetic DNA and RNA-Based Self-Assembling Nanotechnology to Sequelae of COVID-19 Shots.

  4. The Truth About Fluoride In Your Water With Michael Connett

    Episode 600

    Show notes

Attorney Michael Connett has spent more than two decades investigating fluoride—and seven years battling the Environmental Protection Agency in federal court over the risks of adding it to drinking water. In this episode, he takes us inside the landmark case that resulted in a federal judge finding that water fluoridation poses an unreasonable risk to children's developing brains.

Michael discusses research linking fluoride exposure during pregnancy with reduced IQ in children, the government report he says officials tried to prevent from being released, and how the court's decision helped propel efforts to end water fluoridation in Utah and Florida. He also explains where the fluoride added to drinking water comes from, why swallowing fluoride is not necessary for its purported dental benefits, and why he believes fluoridation raises serious questions about informed consent.

We also explore research surrounding fluoride and bone health, the current status of Michael's case against the EPA, his new lawsuits involving children's fluoride products, and the prevalence of dental fluorosis among American children. Finally, Michael offers practical ways to reduce fluoride exposure and explains how ordinary citizens can get involved in efforts to end water fluoridation in their own communities.

  5. The Control Grid: How To Protect Your Money And Your Freedom With Catherine Austin Fitts

    Episode 599

    Show notes

What happens when the financial system can control not just how we spend our money, but what we are allowed to buy? Catherine Austin Fitts, former Wall Street investment banker, former Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and publisher of The Solari Report, joins us to explain what she calls the emerging "control grid"—and why she believes it threatens food, health, and personal freedom.

Catherine breaks down the three pillars of the control grid: surveillance infrastructure, digital identity, and financial transaction control. She explains stablecoins, the movement of bank deposits and investment assets onto distributed ledgers, and how an "automatic third lock" could allow transactions to be restricted without human intervention. She also discusses the CLEAR Act and proposed protections for financial freedom.

The conversation explores Catherine's views on the financial forces behind the COVID response, depopulation, and protecting our children. She shares her remarkable story of losing her wealth, enduring years of litigation, and rebuilding her life—and how it transformed her understanding of real wealth. Catherine explains why she believes we should finance the people and businesses we trust, support local farmers, and invest in the "people bank." She closes with practical ways to begin "Coming Clean" and build a healthier, freer future.

  6. The Surprising Benefits Of CO₂ And A Warmer Planet With Gregory Wrightstone

    Episode 598

    Show notes

Gregory Wrightstone, geologist, author, and executive director of the CO2 Coalition, challenges the prevailing narrative that rising carbon dioxide and a warming planet spell disaster. Drawing on geology, climate history, and agricultural data, Gregory makes the case that modest warming and increased CO2 are benefiting both humanity and the natural world.

He explains how longer growing seasons and higher CO2 levels can increase agricultural productivity and help plants withstand drought, and takes us back through history to explore the connection between warm periods, abundant food, and flourishing civilizations. He also weighs in on sea-level rise, retreating glaciers, polar bears and species extinction, and the environmental costs of wind and solar energy.

Gregory also discusses the effort to overturn the EPA's CO2 endangerment finding and the CO2 Coalition's involvement in the resulting legal battle. Finally, he shares how the Coalition is creating free educational materials to help children examine climate claims through science, critical thinking, and the scientific method.

  7. Should You Have The Right to Choose Your Blood Donor? With Liz James

    Season 597

    Show notes

What if you needed a blood transfusion—but wanted a say in whose blood you received?

In this episode, pharmacist and patient advocate Liz James shares the remarkable story behind Blessed By His Blood, a nonprofit cooperative helping people locate compatible directed blood donors and navigate a system that can make receiving blood from someone you know surprisingly difficult.

Liz explains why she walked away from a successful pharmacy career in 2020, how her commitment to informed consent eventually led her into blood-donor advocacy, and why she believes patients should have the right to choose their blood donors in non-emergency situations. She takes us inside the blood industry, raising questions about blood storage, testing, medications and other substances that may be present in donor blood, and the financial incentives she believes are contributing to resistance to directed donation.

She also discusses the legislative effort to protect directed donor blood, including the first successful law in Idaho, and shares moving stories of families Blessed By His Blood has helped—including a transplant patient and two young girls who depend on regular transfusions.

Finally, Liz explains how families can make a plan before a transfusion is ever needed and why becoming your own advocate may be one of the most important steps you can take to protect your health.

  8. The Healing Power Of Therapeutic Enemas With Monika Holland

    Episode 596

    Show notes

Last week, Monika Holland explained why rebuilding the gut with No Plant GAPS can lay the foundation for healing. In this follow-up conversation, she explores another often-overlooked piece of the puzzle: therapeutic enemas.

Monika explains why enemas have been used for generations as part of the GAPS protocol, describing the different purposes of cleansing, nourishing, and targeted enemas and how she incorporates them into her work with clients facing severe digestive, neurological, and autoimmune challenges. She discusses meat stock enemas for nourishment, coffee enemas for supporting the body's natural detoxification pathways, and other approaches designed to address specific needs.

Along the way, Monika shares her own experiences, addresses common misconceptions, explains who should—and should not—consider coffee enemas, and emphasizes the importance of individualized guidance. She also discusses why she believes healing begins with nourishing the body rather than aggressively "killing" pathogens, and why patience, rather than rigid timelines, may be one of the most important ingredients for recovery.

  9. The Healing Power Of No Plant GAPS With Monika Holland

    Episode 595

    Show notes

What if the foods you believe are nourishing your gut are actually preventing it from healing?

Monika Holland knows what it feels like to be told there are no options left. After years of debilitating illness, she was diagnosed with life-threatening Crohn's disease and given just months to live. Today, she helps people with some of the most severe digestive, neurological, and autoimmune conditions recover through the GAPS protocol—and a little-known therapeutic approach called No Plant GAPS.

In this first of a two-part conversation, Monika shares her remarkable healing story and explains why Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride developed No Plant GAPS for those with the most damaged digestive systems. She discusses why meat stock—not bone broth—is the foundation of healing, how the protocol aims to repair the gut lining and restore the microbiome, and why temporarily removing plant foods may help some people recover from chronic illness.

Monika also addresses common concerns about nutrient deficiencies, explains the concept of metabolic flexibility, shares dramatic recovery stories from her clinical practice, and discusses the powerful connection between emotional healing and physical health.

Whether you're struggling with digestive problems yourself or simply want to better understand the therapeutic side of the GAPS protocol, this episode offers a fascinating look at one practitioner's approach to restoring health from the inside out.

In Part 2, we'll explore another important piece of the healing journey: therapeutic enemas, detoxification, and practical strategies for continuing recovery.

    Episode 594

    Show notes

For generations, people have turned to natural clay for everything from wounds and burns to digestive troubles and detoxification. But could something as simple as clay also offer relief when shingles strikes?

Neal Bosshardt has been using natural bentonite clay for more than 50 years. His connection to it began with his grandfather's Utah farm, which happened to sit alongside a remarkable deposit of mineral-rich clay. Over the decades, Neal and his family began exploring the traditional medicinal uses of clay for a wide variety of ailments.

In this episode, Neal shares stories of people who have turned to clay during painful shingles outbreaks, including his own wife. He explains how to prepare and apply a clay poultice, why he recommends keeping the clay in place for hours at a time, and how clay baths may help soothe the intense itching associated with shingles.

But the conversation goes well beyond shingles. Neal discusses the many ways his family has used clay over the years, from cuts, burns, and other everyday injuries to digestive issues. He also talks about drinking clay, using it for detoxification and remineralization, and what he believes may explain its effects.

  12. Why Your Plate Is Your Fate With Dr. Steve Hughlett

    Episode 592

    Show notes

For decades, Dr. Steve Hughlett worked as a hospital pharmacist, helping patients manage chronic disease with medications. Then a deep dive into the nutrition research changed the course of his career. What he discovered convinced him that many of the chronic illnesses filling hospitals today have more to do with what people eat than with a lack of prescription drugs.

In this episode, Dr. Hughlett explains why he believes insulin—not blood sugar—is one of the most important markers of metabolic health and why understanding its role can change the way we think about type 2 diabetes, obesity, fatty liver disease, and many other chronic conditions. He discusses how modern eating patterns keep insulin chronically elevated, why processed foods are designed to keep us coming back for more, and how real, nutrient-dense foods can help restore metabolic health.

The conversation also explores how definitions of chronic disease have changed over time, the difference between treating symptoms and addressing root causes, why childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes have become increasingly common, and practical steps anyone can take to begin improving their health through food.

Whether you're looking to better understand metabolic health or are simply curious about the relationship between nutrition and chronic disease, this episode offers a thought-provoking perspective from a pharmacist who chose to dedicate his career to prevention rather than prescriptions.

  13. The Toxic Truth About Modern Textiles With Michel May

    Episode 591

    Show notes

What if one of the most important health decisions you make every day has nothing to do with food—and everything to do with what touches your skin?

Michel May, founder of AIZOME Textiles, joins us to explore the hidden world of modern fabrics, synthetic dyes, and the chemicals woven into many of the clothes, bed sheets, towels, carpets, and other textiles that surround us. After witnessing his mother's reaction to conventional textiles during cancer treatment and discovering traditional Japanese dyeing practices, Michel began a journey that led him to question the materials most of us rarely think about.

In this episode, Michel explains why many clothing labels may be far more misleading than informative, how synthetic dyes and fibers became the industry standard, and what researchers are learning about microplastics, the skin microbiome, and the potential health effects of modern textiles. He discusses athletic wear, fast fashion, indoor air quality, environmental pollution, and why textile fibers make up a surprisingly large portion of the dust in our homes.

We also explore the differences between natural and synthetic fibers, the role of traditional plant-based dyes, and why Michel believes the items that touch our skin the longest deserve the closest attention. In fact, he argues that the most important place to start isn't your wardrobe at all—it's your bed. Since we spend roughly a third of our lives sleeping, Michel believes our sheets may be one of the most significant textile choices we make.

Whether you're concerned about microplastics, interested in creating a healthier home, or simply curious about what's really in your clothing, this conversation offers a fascinating look at an often-overlooked piece of the health puzzle—and practical steps you can take starting today.

  14. How Cattle Can Green The Desert With Alejandro Carrillo

    Episode 590

    Show notes

What if cattle could help restore degraded land, increase biodiversity, improve water cycles, and even produce more nutrient-dense food?

This week, regenerative rancher Alejandro Carrillo joins us from the Chihuahuan Desert of northern Mexico to explain how holistic grazing transformed his family's ranch from bare, compacted ground into thriving grasslands teeming with life. Alejandro describes the surprisingly simple management changes that allowed nature to begin healing itself—and why he believes many of the world's degraded landscapes can recover as well.

Alejandro explains how healthy soil functions like a sponge, why weeds are often nature's first responders, and how carefully managed herds can improve water infiltration, increase plant diversity, and support wildlife ranging from migratory birds to predators. He also shares fascinating research suggesting that regenerative grazing may produce exceptionally nutrient-dense beef rich in beneficial compounds rarely measured in conventional food analyses.

Along the way, we discuss the importance of working with nature rather than fighting it, how regenerative ranching can help ranchers remain profitable while improving the land, and why Alejandro believes this approach offers hope not only for farmers and ranchers, but for anyone concerned about the future of our food, our health, and the environment.

  15. Why Baby's First Foods Matter With Kate Pope

    Episode 589

    Show notes

What if the foundation of your child's lifelong health begins long before the first bite of solid food?

In this episode, Kate Pope, founder of the Mama Baby Biome, explains why preparing for pregnancy, nourishing the maternal microbiome, and protecting a baby's earliest microbial exposures may be some of the most important investments parents can make. Drawing from both her professional training and her own birth experiences—including an unexpected cesarean followed by a successful home birth—Kate shares practical guidance for supporting both mother and baby through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, and the introduction of first foods.

Kate explains why the microbiome influences everything from digestion and immunity to allergies, eczema, and even picky eating. She discusses the critical role of postpartum healing, why breast milk is far more than nutrition, and why she believes meat stock—not rice cereal or fruit—is the ideal first food for babies. She also offers hope for parents whose children are already struggling with food sensitivities or selective eating, showing that it's never too late to rebuild health from the inside out.

Whether you're planning a pregnancy, raising young children, or simply curious about how our earliest nutritional choices shape lifelong wellness, this conversation offers a fascinating look at how traditional foods can help build healthier families for generations to come.

  16. What Homeopathy Understands That Modern Medicine Misses With Ronald Whitmont, MD

    Episode 588

    Show notes

What if many of the treatments we rely on to relieve symptoms are actually interfering with the body's ability to heal?

Ronald Whitmont, MD, has spent decades exploring that question. A board-certified physician, homeopath, and former president of the American Institute of Homeopathy, he joins us to discuss the fundamental differences between conventional medicine and homeopathy—and why he believes modern science is beginning to validate what homeopaths have observed for more than 200 years.

Dr. Whitmont explains how homeopathy works, the fascinating story behind its discovery, and why it was once one of the most widely practiced forms of medicine in the United States. He also discusses the Flexner Report, the decline of homeopathy in America, and the growing body of research on the microbiome that is reshaping our understanding of health and disease.

Along the way, we explore symptom suppression, chronic illness, the body's innate healing capacity, and even the use of homeopathy in plants, livestock, and infectious disease prevention.

Whether you're completely new to homeopathy or have used it for years, this conversation offers a thought-provoking look at healing, science, and the future of medicine.

  17. Transcending Fear with Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joesph Ladapo

    Episode 587

    Show notes

What happens when a public health leader refuses to make decisions based on fear?

In this episode, Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo joins us to discuss the principles that guided him through one of the most turbulent periods in modern medicine. He reflects on his years at UCLA during the COVID-19 pandemic, why he publicly challenged lockdowns and mandates, and what it was like to work alongside Governor Ron DeSantis to chart a different course in Florida.

But this conversation goes far beyond policy.

Dr. Ladapo opens up about the childhood trauma that left him living in a near-constant state of fear, the unexpected healing journey that transformed his life just months before the pandemic began, and how that experience changed the way he practices medicine, understands chronic illness, and approaches leadership.

We also explore Florida's efforts to investigate contaminants in the food supply, remove fluoride from public water, protect informed consent, and address the environmental factors contributing to today's chronic disease epidemic.

Throughout this deeply personal and thought-provoking discussion, Dr. Ladapo reminds us that fear narrows our perspective, while wisdom, courage, and connection can help illuminate a better path forward.

  18. A Return To Traditional Herbalism With Kate Tietje

    Episode 586

    Show notes

Kate Tietje believes plants carry wisdom—and in this episode, she explains why herbal remedies have remained trusted tools for healing across generations. Kate is the founder of Earthley Wellness, a longtime herbalist, homeschool mother of six, and author of the book Natural Remedies for Kids.

In this conversation, Kate shares how her journey into herbalism began when conventional medicine failed to help her young daughter's chronic health issues. What started as a personal search for answers eventually grew into one of the most trusted herbal wellness companies in the country.

Kate explains the philosophy behind herbalism, why whole plants work differently than pharmaceutical drugs, and how herbs can support the body rather than simply suppress symptoms. We also discuss medical freedom, concerns about toxic ingredients in modern food and personal care products, and why she believes families should have greater access to natural healing modalities.

Throughout the episode, Kate offers practical guidance for beginners—covering the best starter herbs to keep at home, how to safely forage and grow medicinal plants, and simple remedies anyone can make in their own kitchen. She also shares herbal suggestions for stress, sleep, digestion, postpartum recovery, immune support, and common childhood ailments.

If you've ever felt curious about herbal medicine but didn't know where to begin, this episode is a warm and practical introduction to the wisdom of plants and the traditions that have supported human health for generations.

  19. Food Freedom, The Farm Bill And The Future Of Farming With Judith McGeary

    Episode 585

    Show notes

Judith McGeary, founder of the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA), joins us to explain how one massive piece of legislation quietly shapes nearly every aspect of our food system—from the seeds farmers plant to the food that ends up on our plates. She breaks down the history of the Farm Bill, how it evolved from supporting soil conservation and family farms to favoring consolidation and industrial agriculture, and why consumers should pay attention.

Judith also discusses the controversial effort to grant pesticide manufacturers liability protection, the challenges facing regenerative farmers, the loss of seed diversity, and the regulatory barriers that make it difficult for local food producers to thrive. Along the way, she offers practical solutions for rebuilding resilient local food systems and explains why meaningful change often begins with ordinary citizens making a phone call to their elected representatives.

Whether you're concerned about food quality, farmer livelihoods, regenerative agriculture, or the future of America's food supply, this conversation offers an eye-opening look at the policies shaping our agricultural landscape—and what each of us can do to help create a healthier future.

  20. The Religion Of Vaccines With Aaron Siri

    Episode 584

    Show notes

In this episode, Aaron Siri discusses why he believes vaccines have become more than a medical issue—they've become a kind of modern religion. Drawing from themes in his book, Vaccines, Amen: The Religion of Vaccines, Aaron explores how belief, institutional authority, and pharmaceutical influence have shaped vaccine policy and public perception.

He explains the powerful role a small group of vaccinologists has played in shaping vaccine science, education, and government recommendations, and discusses what he uncovered while reviewing FDA clinical trial documents and deposing some of the most influential figures in vaccinology.

The conversation also examines the lack of placebo-controlled trials for routine childhood vaccines, the liability protections granted to pharmaceutical companies under the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, the challenges surrounding informed consent, and the broader question of medical liberty in modern society.

Along the way, Aaron shares why he believes people should think more critically about environmental exposures of all kinds—not just vaccines—and why asking difficult questions remains essential when it comes to protecting long-term health.
