Everything You Need to Know About Peptides
Show notes
What are peptides, and what can they do for your health? From BPC-157 and collagen peptides to GLP-1 peptides, these compounds have become a hot topic, but what are they really? Keep watching for more about peptides, their benefits, and their potential risks:
There’s a lot of confusion surrounding peptides. A peptide is a short chain of amino acids that acts as a signal, telling the body to perform specific tasks, including building tendons, collagen, muscles, and ligaments.
GLP-1 is produced naturally in the gut and signals the body that you’re no longer hungry. This signal normally fades quickly, but certain GLP-1 weight loss drugs can remain active for up to seven days. This leads to decreased appetite and weight loss but can also cause gastrointestinal problems, muscle loss, and other side effects.
BPC-157 peptide injections have shown promising results for reducing knee pain, although human research remains limited.
Are peptides safe? Peptide safety largely depends on their source and quality. Much of the raw material used to manufacture peptides originates in China, and testing of some products has revealed incorrect amino acid sequences. Some products may also contain bacterial endotoxins, raising additional safety concerns.

Some people experience shingles pain long after the rash has healed. Shingles is caused by the chicken pox virus, which enters a dormant or latent state after the initial infection.
The virus can remain dormant in nerve cells, including nerve bundles that travel around the rib cage. These nerve cells allow the virus to hide from the immune system. The shingles virus can also interfere with vitamin D receptor activity.
Postherpetic neuralgia, the lingering pain you experience after shingles, is caused by damage to your nerve cells.
Remedies for shingles pain:
• Capsaicin cream or patch
• L-lysine, 3000 to 6000 mg once daily
• Zinc, 40 to 60 mg daily
• Vitamin C, 2 to 4 grams daily
• Vitamin D, 10,000 IU daily
• Raw honey applied topically
• Minimized stress
• Intermittent fasting
• Hydroxocobalamin (vitamin B12), 1000 to 2000 mcg daily
• PEA, 600 mg daily
• Benfotiamine, 300 mg daily
• Magnesium glycinate
• Adequate sleep
• Healthy gut microbiome

Keep watching to learn more about potassium and electrolyte balance:
The best potassium-rich foods aren’t necessarily bananas, potatoes, plantains, beans, or sweet potatoes. These starchy foods contain carbohydrates that can raise insulin, while beans can also cause bloating and gut irritation in some people.
If you want to boost your potassium intake without consuming a lot of carbs, avocados are an excellent choice.
Other low-carb, potassium-rich foods include:
• Wild salmon
• Swiss chard
• Beet tops
• Spinach
• Portobello mushrooms
• Tomato paste
• Cream of tartar
Signs of low potassium include:
• Constipation
• Bloating and water retention
• Frequent urination and thirst
• Tingling and numbness
• High pulse rate
• Heart palpitations
Persistent fatigue and muscle weakness are among the most common signs of potassium deficiency. Chronic potassium deficiency can increase your risk of serious health conditions, including high blood pressure, stroke, bone loss, and kidney stones.
Potassium is often thought to be bad for the kidneys, but the concern is primarily related to impaired kidney function, particularly advanced kidney disease.

Most people associate creatine with muscle strength and bodybuilding, but it’s so much more than that. Creatine is a vital compound produced naturally by the body, but our ability to produce it can decline as we age.
Benefits of creatine include:
• Supports ATP regeneration for cellular energy
• Helps meet high energy demands
• Draws water into the muscles
• Supports healthy blood sugar regulation as a part of balanced diet and exercise routine
• Supports methylation
• Supports bone and muscle health
During the first week of taking creatine, you may start noticing cognitive benefits, including improved focus, concentration, and memory.
By the second week, you may experience increased muscle strength and faster recovery after exercise. After taking creatine for 30 days, you may feel stronger and more energized, and you may even have a greater urge to work out. Creatine can also help increase muscle stem cells, supporting muscle health as you age.
Animal proteins, including herring, pork, and red meat, are among the best food sources of creatine.

This simple morning routine can make impactful changes to your gut health. Find it here:
Gut microbiome recovery after a single course of antibiotics doesn’t happen as quickly as you might think. Unfortunately, some people may never fully recover their original gut microbiome.
People are often told that their gut bacteria will return to normal within 4 to 8 weeks, but this isn’t always the case. The bacteria that return may be different, and antibiotic resistance genes can persist in the gut microbiome.
A healthy gut microbiome is essential for overall health and well-being. From your immune system to your mood, gut health affects nearly every aspect of your health. Gut microbes also play a key role in serotonin production, which is why many people report mood changes after antibiotic use.
Probiotics can be helpful when taking antibiotics. Look for strains that can survive stomach acid, and take them simultaneously alongside antibiotics.
Sauerkraut is one of the best fermented foods for gut health.

🌟 Optimize your fast with the best supplements for fasting: https://drbrg.co/4B6G4RT
Keep watching to learn more about fasting and improving insulin resistance:
Fat burning is not a backup method for energy. Ketones are actually the preferred fuel source for the body. The liver only stores about 400 calories of sugar as glycogen, while the average person has around 120,000 calories of stored fat available for energy.
Fasting does not typically cause hypoglycemia. During a 24-hour fast, you shouldn't experience a significant drop in blood sugar. This is because your liver can produce glucose through a process called gluconeogenesis, so you don't need to consume sugar to maintain blood sugar levels.
Between 12 and 24 hours of fasting, your body shifts toward fat burning. Fasting also stimulates autophagy, the body's natural process of cleaning up and recycling damaged tissues and proteins.
Hypoglycemia while fasting is often related to an existing insulin resistance problem, commonly associated with a high-carb diet. Depending on the severity of the problem, it can take time to correct after reducing your carbohydrate intake.

Learn more about healthy aging and feeling your best through menopause. Keep watching:
If hot flashes and night sweats are just a typical part of menopause, why do some women experience them even before menopause begins? Even women taking estrogen can still experience hot flashes.
Hot flashes are not directly correlated with high or low estrogen levels. Instead, they’re related to how quickly hormone levels drop. Genistein, an extract from soy, has shown benefits for hot flashes at doses of 54 mg twice daily. Taking 400 mg of magnesium glycinate daily may also help support brain health during menopause.
Night sweats and hot flashes are not the same. Night sweats can last up to 60 minutes and often occur between 3 and 4 a.m. They may be more closely related to blood sugar, so supporting healthy blood sugar levels can help reduce night sweats.
Muscle loss after menopause is another common concern. The amino acid leucine is important for muscle growth, but getting sufficient protein is just as essential for maintaining muscle mass.

Watch these next! Learn more about insulin resistance and metabolic health:
If someone has more than 8 skin tags, their risk of developing metabolic syndrome may be 11 times greater than someone without skin tags!
Skin tags are a metabolic problem, not a skin problem. They’re associated with high insulin and elevated insulin-like growth factor 1. Skin tags often appear on the neck, under the arms, and in skin folds due to a combination of insulin-like growth factor and friction in these areas.
For topical skin tag removal, apply a drop of iodine and cover the skin tag with a bandage twice a day.
To prevent skin tags from returning, it’s essential to address the underlying cause by lowering insulin. Reducing eating frequency and lowering your carbohydrate intake can help address one of the most common skin tag causes and keep them from coming back.

Learn more about niacin and other supplements that actually work. Keep watching:
Microbes in your body can turn an expensive NAD supplement into inexpensive flush niacin. Research has shown that niacin can actually raise NAD levels in the blood 5 to 8 times their baseline levels.
NAD helps pull energy from the food you eat and convert it into ATP for cellular energy. It’s also involved in DNA repair and longevity proteins. NAD supplements have become popular because NAD is believed to decline with age, but research suggests NAD levels remain stable in healthy people as they get older.
You don’t need an expensive NAD supplement. Weight training is one of the best ways to increase NAD, while foods like beef liver, meat, and fish can also help boost your levels.

Learn more about supporting your immune system naturally. Watch these next:
Your adrenal glands produce cortisol, which helps keep inflammation under control. Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid that’s about four times more potent than cortisol, so it can reduce inflammation very quickly. It can also suppress your body’s natural cortisol production, affecting adrenal function even after you stop taking it.
Prednisone can also affect your body’s mineral balance. Sodium can rise while potassium decreases, potentially contributing to fluid retention and high blood pressure.
Beyond reducing inflammation, prednisone can also suppress normal immune function. The longer you take prednisone, the greater the potential effect on your immune system.
For autoimmune disease, prednisone doesn’t address the underlying cause. It temporarily suppresses the immune response and inflammation. Prednisone side effects can include bone loss, blood sugar problems, muscle loss, eye problems, mood changes, and many more.

Walking is one of the simplest ways to support your overall health, but a few small changes can make it even more effective.
Walking benefits include:
• Supports cardiovascular health
• Supports metabolic health
• Supports brain health and cognitive function
• Promotes better mental health
• Improves sleep quality
• Supports a healthy body composition
• Strengthens muscles and joints
• Helps reduce stress
• Supports immune function
• Supports eye health
Some people focus so much on their step count that they overlook the quality of those steps. Varying your walking pace and terrain can help you get more out of your walking exercise.
Walking after meals can be more beneficial than walking before. A 10-minute walk after eating can help your body clear excess glucose from the blood.
Walking outside can boost the benefits even further by adding sun exposure. If possible, walk with a friend or family member to add the benefits of social connection.

LDL is not cholesterol! LDL is a lipoprotein made by the liver that transports cholesterol and other important compounds throughout the body, including vitamin E, carotenoids, and CoQ10. More than half of the people who have a heart attack have LDL levels that fall within the normal range.
Not all LDL particles behave the same. Large, buoyant LDL is nonpathogenic, while small, dense LDL is more closely associated with inflammation and cardiovascular risk.
Many heart attacks can occur with few or no warning signs. Grip strength offers insight into overall cardiovascular health, and even your hands can reveal signs that may be connected to your risk of heart disease.
Metabolic disease goes far beyond difficulty losing weight. It reflects problems at the cellular level, where cells struggle to produce and use energy efficiently. Mitochondrial dysfunction is closely connected with chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, and type 2 diabetes.
Plaque, cholesterol, and calcium are only part of the picture. Many heart attacks and strokes ultimately occur when a blood clot blocks blood flow, making clot formation an important part of understanding heart disease and protecting long-term heart health.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats, and many people aren’t getting enough of them. Fish oil and cod-liver oil are great ways to boost your omega-3 intake. Cod-liver oil also contains vitamins A and D, making it a particularly nutrient-dense option. Food sources of omega-3s include fatty fish, sardines, grass-fed beef, organ meats, and eggs.
Two of the most important omega-3s are EPA and DHA. EPA can help reduce inflammation, while DHA supports brain health and cognitive function.
Omega-3 fatty acids help support the following:
• Dry eyes
• Dermatitis
• Arthritis
• Macular degeneration
• Arrhythmias
• High blood pressure
• Fatty liver
Omega-3s also support calcium absorption and may even help promote better sleep.

Himalayan Pink Salt vs. Sea Salt: Which Is Better? Find out here: https://drbrg.co/4ecNEQT
Keep watching for more about electrolytes and how to stay properly hydrated:
Does it seem like water isn’t quenching your thirst? There are two main reasons this can happen: You may not be drinking enough fluid, or you may have low blood volume. Low blood volume is the more common scenario.
Low blood volume is one of the most common causes of excessive thirst. Drinking more water can actually make the problem worse, leaving you with constant thirst.
To retain enough fluid and maintain healthy blood volume, you need adequate salt.
Low sodium and low blood volume symptoms include:
• Feeling dizzy or unstable when standing up quickly
• Persistent thirst, especially at night
• Fatigue, weak muscles, or cramping
• Poor sleep
• Headaches
• Feeling cold
• Constipation
• Dark urine
• Dry mouth and dry eyes
You need around 3000 to 4000 mg of sodium each day to maintain healthy hydration levels. This is equal to about 1½ to 2 teaspoons of salt per day. If you’re an athlete or physically active, you may need more.

Keep watching to learn more about choosing the right supplements and getting the most benefits from them:
Compare natural vs. synthetic vitamins, and why it matters here: https://drbrg.co/4e51Awf
Did you know an 18,000-person clinical trial involving beta-carotene and lung cancer was stopped early after participants taking the supplement had worse outcomes?
Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A, but the beta-carotene used in the study was synthetic. Get beta-carotene from food sources for the best results and to avoid potential negative side effects.
Synthetic vitamin E may be okay short term, but with long-term use it can contribute to oxidative stress. Synthetic vitamin A can also create problems, including competing with vitamin D at the receptor level, increasing the risk of birth defects during pregnancy, and increasing the risk of bone fractures. Get vitamin A from foods like egg yolks and cod liver oil.
Other synthetic vitamins and supplements to avoid include:
• Pyridoxine hydrochloride
• Calcium carbonate
• Ergocalciferol
Too much iron can also be damaging to the body, so focus on food sources of iron when possible to avoid consuming too much.
