  1. HSOS #66: Before You Combine HRT and GLP-1s, Listen to This

    Episode 66

    Show notes

Grab your coffee (or your protein shake..), because I’m digging into one of the juiciest questions landing in my inbox right now: does menopause hormone therapy make GLP-1s work better? New research presented this week at The Menopause Society’s annual meeting has the headlines buzzing, and I’m walking you through the three studies behind the hype. I’ll show you why the most impressive numbers came from the tiniest study, how a sneaky thing called the “healthy user effect” might be stealing the spotlight, and the one thing you should never ask your doctor for. Then I jump up onto my favorite soapbox to talk about my passion: protecting your muscle. You’ll walk away with my three non-negotiables for protecting your strength while on a GLP-1, so you lose the fat and keep the muscle that keeps you strong for decades to come.

    Let’s talk.

Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. I’m Kim Duffy, registered dietitian, personal trainer, mom, and your biggest hype woman when it comes to aging like you mean it.

This show isn’t about chasing skinny or counting wrinkles. It’s about building real strength: physical, emotional, and hormonal. Each week, I’ll share straight-talking nutrition tips, sustainable fitness strategies, and conversations that help you feel powerful in your skin once again.

Menopause is not an ending, it is only the beginning. This is your season of strength.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • Why 1 in 5 women in their 50s and early 60s have already tried a GLP-1
    • Why your midlife weight gain isn’t “all hormones” (and isn’t all in your head either)
    • The 2024 Mayo Clinic study that started the HRT and GLP-1 buzz
    • The surprising number of women behind that headline-grabbing result
    • What happened when researchers studied nearly 4,000 women
    • Why one medication’s impressive results shrank in a bigger study
    • The “healthy user effect” and how sleep might be the real secret weapon
    • The one thing you should never ask your doctor for
    • Why the scale doesn’t tell the whole story about what you’re losing
    • My 3 must-dos for protecting your muscle while on a GLP-1

  2. HSOS #65: AI Gave You a Plan. Now What?

    Episode 65

    Show notes

Okay, confession time: I’m a total AI fan girl. It helps me outline this podcast, organize my programs, and wrangle my brain when it feels like I have 40 billion tabs open. But when RFK Jr. stood on stage at the MAHA Summit and said AI can give you a second opinion better informed than any doctor in the country, I knew we needed to chat. In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on how AI actually comes up with its answers (spoiler: it’s pattern math, not a magic super brain), what the research really says about AI-generated meal plans, and the jaw-dropping moment a client and I discovered her AI recipe was WAY off on calories and macros. This is not an “AI is bad” episode. It’s a “let’s use this tool like the smart women we are” episode, complete with my favorite tips for using AI wisely for your health. Grab your coffee and let’s get into it!

    Let’s talk.

  3. HSOS #64: You Never Know Her Story

    Episode 64

    Show notes

Someone once told me I looked great and asked if I had lost weight, and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever heard. In this episode I explain why, and how it changed the way I see every woman who walks into a gym. I’m putting the protein shaker down this week to talk about a joke on live TV that got groans from the audience, a comment section that made my blood boil, and a social media trend I’m calling out by name. I also share how one ordinary haircut changed the course of a stranger’s life, and why the woman in the leggings you’ve been side-eyeing might deserve a high five instead. This episode isn’t a lecture. It’s an invitation to be the kind of woman other women are lucky to run into, and by the end, you’ll know exactly how to start this week.

    • The SNL gym joke, and the audience reaction that gave me hope
    • What happens when a woman defends a joke about other women
    • My trainer take on why leggings are made for training, not for judgment
    • The fitness influencer trend that makes me sick to my stomach

  4. HSOS #63: Strength Training After 50: The 5 Moves Every Woman Needs

    Episode 63

    Show notes

In Part 2 of my strength training series, I'm handing you the roadmap I wish someone had handed me when I started lifting in my mid-40s. We're talking about the right way to breathe and brace (and the very wrong kind of pushing). There's my slightly unhinged explanation of the hinge, which involves a bobbing bird toy and shutting your car door with your butt. I'm sharing the five moves every strong body is built on, my simple method for knowing exactly when to go heavier, and the six mistakes that keep women stuck with the same pink dumbbells for years. I'm also telling you about the women I train, up to 88 years young, who started out saying "I've never lifted a weight in my life." Grab your water bottle, friend. It's time to graduate from the pink dumbbell club!

    Let's talk.

  5. HSOS #62: What 90-Year-Olds Can Teach Us About Getting Stronger

    Episode 62

    Show notes

Every week, I watch my training clients who are women in their 40's-80s lift things they never thought they could which made me want to do an episode focused on strength training. This is Part 1 of a two-part series. I'm spilling what menopause is doing to our muscles and bones, and why the scale might be fibbing to you. I'm also sharing a study where women with fragile bones lifted heavy and came out stronger, plus why I'd rather you retire those little pink dumbbells. There are myths to bust too (no, you won't wake up bulky), and eight easy ways to start today, right in your kitchen. Grab your water bottle and let's get strong together!

  6. HSOS #61: Why Healthy Eating Feels So Hard for Women After 50

    Episode 61

    Show notes

Picture your Sunday meal prep, gorgeous glass containers all lined up in the fridge, and then by Friday there's a little mold on the broccoli and you're eating crackers out of the box at 7 p.m. I've been there, and so have almost all the women I work with. In this episode, I'm finally letting you off the hook, because willpower, motivation, and discipline were never the reason healthy eating didn't stick. I explain why motivation behaves like a moody houseguest, how decision fatigue and midlife blood sugar swings set you up for the evening pantry raid, and the four things that actually work: putting yourself on your own priority list, getting real support, building a simple system, and doing the reps. I also share a study that throws out the old 21-day habit myth and shows why one bad day won't erase your progress. Grab your coffee (after a glass of water, please), because this one is a big exhale.

  7. HSOS #60: The One Question to Ask Before You Buy Another Supplement

    Episode 60

    Show notes

Okay, I'm calling myself out today, and I'm calling you out too (lovingly!). We're doing a full intervention on that graveyard of half-used supplements hiding in your cabinet: the greens powder, the magnesium gummies, the detox tea you bought at midnight during a stress scroll. I'm breaking down why so many of these "one and done" fixes just don't deliver what the label promises, and getting into the actual science of why your body loves food in its whole, messy, unglamorous form way more than it loves an isolated scoop or gummy. I'll also tell you exactly when a supplement IS worth your money, what to check on the label before you buy one, and share a little life update, because in a couple of days I'm hopping on a plane to go celebrate my grandbaby's first birthday, so send good airport vibes my way!

  8. HSOS #59: Why Your Waist Keeps Growing (Even When Nothing Else Has Changed)

    Episode 59

    Show notes

Okay friends, buckle up, because in this episode I'm spilling the biology tea on why your waistline seems to have a mind of its own once you hit your 40s and 50s, even when your eating and your workouts haven't changed one bit. I'm taking you back to my own skinny-jeans-to-stretchy-pants era and walking you through exactly what estrogen and insulin are doing behind the scenes to completely reshape where your body stores fat.

Spoiler alert: it's not a willpower problem, it's biology, and once you understand it, you can actually work with your body instead of constantly fighting it. I'm also breaking down why one specific meal has more power over this whole cycle than any other, and giving you the scoop on my free 5 Day Breakfast Fix challenge kicking off September 15th. Your body isn't broken. It just needs a plan that gets it.

  9. HSOS #58: Why Your "Healthy" Breakfast May Be Causing Afternoon Cravings

    Episode 58

    Show notes

Okay, confession time: I recorded this one loopy on muscle relaxants after a very unglamorous trip to urgent care for my back (first time ever, and yes, I have thoughts about aging). But loopy or not, this episode has been living in my head for weeks because I keep meeting two totally different kinds of women with the exact same problem. One skips breakfast because intermittent fasting sounds smart. The other eats breakfast, does the "healthy" thing, cereal, fruit, the works, and still ends up face first in the pantry by 3pm. Spoiler: they're both making the same mistake, just from opposite directions. I'm breaking down why skipping it and "eating healthy" can both backfire, what your blood sugar is actually doing behind the scenes, and the one dead simple question to ask yourself tomorrow morning that changes everything. Oh, and I'm also gearing up for something big, my free 5 Day Breakfast Fix starting September 15th, so I tell you exactly what that's about too.

    Let's talk.

Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. I'm Kim Duffy, registered dietitian, personal trainer, mom, and your biggest hype woman when it comes to aging like you mean it.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • The "healthy on paper" breakfast that's secretly setting you up to crash by afternoon
    • Why two completely opposite breakfast habits can lead to the exact same cravings
    • What your blood sugar and hunger hormones are really doing when you skip a meal
    • The truth about fiber, and why it's not the full picture you think it is
    • Why this isn't a willpower problem, even though it feels like one
    • The real question you should be asking at breakfast instead of "should I eat or not"
    • One ridiculously simple thing to try tomorrow morning, no meal plan needed
    • What's really behind that stubborn midsection weight gain in perimenopause and menopause

  10. HSOS #57: Same Scale, Different Life: What Your Weight Isn't Telling You

    Episode 57

    Show notes

So this episode came from something that actually happened to me. I've been working with my trainer for eight weeks, and when it came time to check in, I stepped on the scale and it was the exact same number as eight weeks before. My gut reaction was "well, nothing worked." Except when we did the measurements, I'd lost three inches off my waist, and my thighs and biceps had actually grown a little from all the strength training I've been doing. The scale just never told me that story. So in this episode, I want to walk you through two women who are the same age, same height, same exact weight on the scale, but living in completely different bodies. One is dealing with low energy, medications, and health issues she may not even feel yet. The other is strong, has more energy, and is just really living her life. I get into why this happens, what's actually going on with muscle, metabolism, and that visceral fat, and what you should be paying attention to instead of that number on the scale.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • The scale trick that had Kim convinced her eight weeks of hard work had failed, until her trainer set her straight
    • Why two women can weigh the exact same number and be living in totally different bodies
    • The suitcase analogy that will change how you think about your weight forever
    • What's actually hiding inside your body that a scale can never show you
    • The sneaky kind of fat linked to serious disease risk, even in a "normal sized" body

  11. HSOS #56: The Cookie Penalty Reframe: Why Restriction Backfires Every Time

    Episode 56

    Show notes

Happy one year to us! This episode marks a full year of Her Season of Strength, and to celebrate, I'm digging into a topic pretty much every woman can relate to: cookies, guilt, and why "being so good all week" usually ends with me face down in a sleeve of Girl Scout cookies. I'm breaking down what I call the Cookie Penalty Reframe, the real deal on why cutting out sugar completely backfires, what's actually happening to your blood sugar when you eat a treat on an empty stomach, and the simple shift that lets you enjoy the treats you love without the guilt spiral afterward. Grab a cookie (pair it with some protein, I'll explain why) and settle in.

    Let's talk.

Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. I'm Kim Duffy, registered dietitian, personal trainer, mom, and your biggest hype woman when it comes to aging like you mean it.

This show isn't about chasing skinny or counting wrinkles. It's about building real strength: physical, emotional, and hormonal. Each week, I'll share straight talking nutrition tips, sustainable fitness strategies, and conversations that help you feel powerful in your skin once again.

Menopause is not an ending, it is only the beginning. This is your season of strength.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • Why "I was so good all week" almost always ends with me eating an entire sleeve of cookies
    • Why cutting out sugar completely backfired on me, and what it actually does to your cravings
    • The real reason one cookie can spiral into "well, I already blew it, might as well keep going"
    • What's really happening in your body when you eat a treat on an empty stomach
    • The simple pairing trick I use that softens a blood sugar spike without giving up the treat
    • Why timing your treat matters just as much as what the treat actually is
    • How I plan for treats ahead of time instead of white knuckling my way past the dessert table
    • The one habit that changed my whole relationship with dessert (hint: it has nothing to do with restriction)
    • My own story of childhood binge eating, and what it taught me about using food as comfort

  12. HSOS #55: Why "I'll Get to It Eventually" Might Be Costing You Everything

    Episode 55

    Show notes

I'm kicking things off fresh from surprising my mom with an epic 80th birthday ambush (complete with a snooping grandma and screams that went viral), then I'm getting real about something every woman knows too well: why we'll drop everything for our kids, our grandkids, even the dog, but hesitate the second it's time to spend on ourselves. I call it the Caretaker's Paradox, and once you hear it named, you won't be able to unsee it in your own life. From there, I share a personal story and the hard-won lesson that "someday" is never actually promised to any of us. It's honest, it's moving, and it just might be the nudge you needed to stop waiting on the thing you've been putting off.

    Let's talk.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • The sneaky trick Kim's mom pulled that almost blew her own 80th birthday surprise (and why it's TOO relatable).
    • The real reason you'll pay for anything your kids need, but hesitate over $40 for yourself.
    • What the "Caretaker's Paradox" is, and why you've probably been living it for years without a name for it.
    • Where this guilt actually comes from (hint: it was never really about the money).
    • Why "someday" might be the most dangerous word in your vocabulary.
    • The one question to ask yourself the next time you think "I'll get to it eventually."
    • Why the programs and products you've already tried weren't really the problem.

  13. HSOS #54: Part 2: Is Food Noise Even Real?

    Episode 54

    Show notes

I'm back with part two of our food noise conversation, and today we're getting into the piece I think is actually the most useful: blood sugar. If you've ever wondered why a craving hits out of nowhere at 3pm, or why your relationship with food felt like it changed overnight sometime in your 40s, this one's for you. I walk through the actual science connecting blood sugar to hunger and cravings, why it can hit differently in perimenopause and menopause, and I'm honest about what the research does and doesn't prove yet. I also share a few simple, practical ways to stabilize your blood sugar, whether or not you're on a GLP-1. And toward the end, I mention my SUSTAIN program, since the priority list opens August 18th and I'm keeping the group small this fall.

    Let's talk.

  14. HSOS #53: Part 1: Is Food Noise Even Real?

    Episode 53

    Show notes

Grab your coffee and get comfy, because this episode is all about that mental chatter that just will not shut up: food noise. I'm breaking down what the research actually says about the voice in your head insisting the ice cream in the freezer needs your attention right now, why some experts think "food noise" is more marketing buzzword than settled science, and why the whole conversation exploded the second Ozempic and Wegovy became household names. Spoiler: GLP-1 medications may quiet food noise through the brain, but that is only half the story. Part two drops next week with the piece that belongs entirely to you, no prescription required, and it is all about blood sugar.

    Let's talk.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • What "food noise" actually means, according to the very first peer reviewed definition, published in 2025
    • Why some researchers think "food noise" might be more marketing buzzword than medical diagnosis
    • The brand new tools scientists are using to actually measure how loud your food noise really is
    • How to tell the difference between normal hunger and food noise that's running the show
    • The surprising role ghrelin and leptin play in how loudly (or quietly) your food noise shows up
    • Why the term "food noise" exploded the moment Ozempic and Wegovy went mainstream
    • The eye opening INFORM study stats on how GLP-1 medications changed food thoughts for 550 adults
    • The real reason GLP-1s quiet food noise, and why it has nothing to do with blood sugar

  15. HSOS #52: Menopausal Weight Gain is Not "All in Your Head"

    Episode 52

    Show notes

So a 40 year old male trainer sent me an email titled "Menopause Does Not Cause Weight Gain," and friends, I had thoughts. In this episode, I take that dismissive subject line and turn it into a full teaching moment, breaking down the real, well documented science behind how a drop in estrogen during menopause messes with your insulin sensitivity. Using a simple "key and lock" analogy, I explain exactly why your body might be holding onto fat, hoarding cravings, and running your energy into the ground, and why none of that is a willpower problem. If you have ever been told your midlife body changes are "all in your head," this episode is the receipt you have been waiting for.

    Let's talk.

Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. I'm Kim Duffy, registered dietitian, personal trainer, mom, and your biggest hype woman when it comes to aging like you mean it.

Menopause is not an ending, it is only the beginning. This is your season of strength.

What I Cover in This Episode:

    • The email that almost made me throw my phone: a 40 year old male trainer told his entire list "menopause does not cause weight gain." Here is why that is so dangerous to say
    • The "rusty lock" analogy that finally makes insulin resistance click, you will never think about blood sugar the same way again
    • The counterintuitive truth about insulin resistance: it is almost never about having too little insulin. It is about having way too much
    • Why chronically high insulin is quietly doing damage far beyond your blood sugar numbers, and most women have no idea
    • Three jobs estrogen has been doing for your metabolism this entire time that nobody ever told you about
    • The exact chain reaction that happens inside your cells, your pancreas, and your fat cells the moment estrogen starts to drop
    • Why your fat seems to have moved zip codes since menopause, straight to your belly, and what that "visceral fat" is actually up to in there
    • The vicious cycle between visceral fat and insulin resistance that keeps feeding itself, and where you can actually break the chain
    • The honest caveat I am not afraid to give you: not everything is hormones, but this one piece is fully within your control
    • Why fixing your blood sugar might be the single missing link for your energy, cravings, muscle, and long term health, and exactly how SUSTAIN was built to do it. Get onto the SUSTAIN Priority List by clicking here.

  16. HSOS #51: The 90-Minute Coffee Rule: Fact or Fiction?

    Episode 51

    Show notes

I keep seeing influencer after influencer talking about coffee and cortisol or some version of this, and a few of the claims bugged me, so I decided to actually look into the research myself and discuss on here. Here is the short version: your cortisol is supposed to rise in the morning, that part is completely normal, and while caffeine does add a little to that rise, your body adapts a lot more than people are giving it credit for. I also get into that popular rule about waiting 90 minutes before your first cup, and talk about why this whole conversation looks a little different once you are in perimenopause or menopause. By the end of the episode, you will have some real, research backed ways to think about your coffee habit without feeling like you need to panic over it.

    • Why your cortisol is supposed to spike every single morning, and why that is actually a good thing, not a red flag
    • The real research behind caffeine and cortisol, including the one nuance almost every influencer conveniently leaves out
    • Whether the viral "wait 90 minutes before coffee" rule actually holds up once you look at the science behind it
    • Why your daily coffee habit might not be spiking your cortisol the way you have been led to believe
    • The exact caffeine dose researchers use in cortisol studies, and how it stacks up against your actual morning cup
    • Why habitual coffee drinkers respond differently to stress than occasional drinkers, and why that matters
    • How perimenopause and menopause quietly change the way your body handles both caffeine and stress

    Episode 50

    Show notes

Ever notice how the health and wellness world tries to convince you that more is always better? More rules, more trackers, more information crammed into your already overflowing brain? Yeah, I used to be part of that problem. In this episode I get real about how I used to coach women (spoiler: it involved handing over a small novel of information in session one) and why that approach was quietly setting my clients up to feel like failures. I'm breaking down why one simple habit done consistently will always beat five habits done occasionally, why this matters even more in perimenopause and menopause, and why I'm bringing my SUSTAIN nutrition coaching program back this September with a whole new look. Twelve weeks, one focus, zero fluff. Grab your coffee and let's talk about why less really is more.

  18. HSOS #49: Stop Trying to Do It All: Why Breakfast Is Your Best First Move

    Episode 49

    Show notes

Have you ever decided that Monday was the day you were going to change everything, all at once, and then by Wednesday you were right back where you started, feeling worse than before because now there's guilt on top of it? Yeah. Me too. And I want you to know that is not a willpower problem. That is a habit science problem, and today we're going to talk about why.

In this episode I'm breaking down why trying to do everything at once is actually working against your brain, and what to do instead. We're starting small, and I mean really small, because the best first habit you can build is one you probably haven't thought much about: breakfast. We're talking about what most women are actually eating in the morning and why it's putting them on a blood sugar rollercoaster before the day even starts, what to eat instead, and I'm even giving you a look at how the rest of the world does breakfast because spoiler: they're doing something we're not. Practical ideas, real talk, and a simple seven day challenge to get you started.

    Episode 48

    Show notes

Let's settle this once and for all, your core is not just a six pack hiding under stubborn belly fat. It's basically Grand Central Station for everything you do, from picking up your grandkid to surviving an overly aggressive sneeze. In this episode, I introduce you to the real MVPs of your midsection, including a deep stabilizing muscle that works like a built in corset and one very famous floor you've probably been hearing a lot about lately. I explain why your back tweaks when you reach for something on the floor, busts the sucking in and belly button to spine myth wide open, and walks you step by step through a breath based bracing technique you can do anywhere, no holding your stomach in required. Stick around to the end, because I’ve got a free five move guide waiting for you called Core Confidence, basically a cheat code for a stronger, steadier midsection.

  20. HSOS #47: Why "Earning" Your Cheat Meal Is Sabotaging Your Progress

    Episode 47

    Show notes

Raise your hand if you've ever called pizza, cocktails, and ice cream a "cheat day" and then felt like a total food criminal by Monday morning. Yeah, me too, more times than I would like to admit. In this episode I am spilling on why the whole cheat meal mindset sets you up to fail before you even take a bite, plus the surprising reason one of my clients kept gaining weight even though she was doing everything "right." We are ditching the good food, bad food drama for good and replacing it with something that actually works long term, a real system instead of a resolution that fizzles out by Thursday. And since today is the very last day to grab my brand new Easy Prep Blueprint for over sixty five percent off, stick around, because I am telling you exactly why this might be the missing piece for so many of you.
