Welcome back to Peptides for Women podcast!
In this episode, I’m joined by TJ Sweet, keynote speaker, author, certified coach, and host of the Living the Sweet Life podcast, to talk about his personal journey with peptides, recovering from years of knee pain, and changing the way he approaches health, gratitude, and personal growth.
After multiple knee surgeries and years of struggling with pain and limited mobility, TJ began exploring peptides as part of a broader approach to his health. Alongside peptides, he focused on gut health, nutrition, movement, and other foundational habits that supported his recovery.
But this conversation goes beyond physical healing. TJ shares how gratitude, self-acceptance, and understanding the deeper purpose behind our goals can change the way we approach our health. Welcome back to Peptides for Women podcast!
In this episode, I’m joined by Tina Haupert of Carrots ’N’ Cake, my FDN colleague, peptide friend, and co-creator of the Peptides for Practitioners Certification Course. We’re getting honest about our personal experiences with peptides, especially when it comes to chronic gut issues and the reality that not every peptide works the way we hope it will.
Tina shares her experience using peptides like BPC-157, TB-500, and KPV for ulcerative colitis, while I talk about my own long journey with slow motility and constipation. We discuss why some peptides may help manage symptoms without fixing the underlying issue, why every body responds differently, and why medications can be a valid part of your health journey.
We also talk about the connection between chronic stress and gut health, and how learning to slow down, set boundaries, and make room for hobbies and relationships can make a difference. Plus, we share more about our upcoming live Peptides for Practitioners cohort and why real-life experience matters when learning how to use peptides as part of a bigger health picture.
In this episode, we cover:
•
Our personal experiences with gut health and chronic digestive issues
•
Why BPC-157, TB-500, and KPV didn't completely resolve our gut issues
•
How peptides can help manage symptoms without necessarily fixing the underlying problem
•
Why medications and other treatments can be valid tools in your health journey
•
How chronic stress and HPA axis dysregulation may affect gut health and peptide outcomes
•
The importance of slowing down, setting boundaries, and making time to relax
•
How hobbies, creativity, social connections, and time away from work support a more balanced lifestyle
•
Why peptides work differently for everyone and aren't a one-size-fits-all solution
•
What to expect from the Peptides for Practitioners Certification Course and upcoming live cohort
•
Why practitioner education, functional testing, and a comprehensive approach matter when working with peptides

EPISODE 66: The Good, The Bad, and The Unexpected Side of Experimenting With Peptides with Tina Haupert
Season 1, Episode 66
Show notes
Welcome back to Peptides for Women podcast!
In this episode, I’m joined by my good friend Tina Haupert, the woman behind Carrots ’N Cake, an FDN practitioner, longtime health and fitness blogger, and experienced peptide self-experimenter. Tina has been on a long health journey with ulcerative colitis, and her search for better health has led her to explore a wide range of peptides for healing, inflammation, pain, metabolism, body composition, and overall health.
Tina and I talk about the good, the bad, and the unexpected parts of using peptides. She shares some of her biggest peptide wins, as well as the experiences that did not go as planned, including some pretty intense reactions to MOTS-c, Thymosin Alpha-1, and FOXO4-DRI.
We also talk about the peptides that have worked really well for her, including ARA 290 for nerve pain, GLP-1s for appetite control and food noise, and Tesamorelin + KPV for body composition and inflammation. Tina shares why she prefers a low-and-slow approach, how her experience with peptides has changed over time, and why the same peptide can affect two people very differently.
Most importantly, this episode is about looking at peptides as another tool in the toolbox rather than a magic solution. Your experience may be completely different from someone else’s, which is why bio-individuality, proper guidance, and understanding the bigger picture all matter.
In this episode, we cover:
• Tina’s health journey with ulcerative colitis and what led her to functional nutrition and peptides
• Why BPC-157 + TB-500 was Tina’s “gateway peptide”
• Her experience with MOTS-c and intense injection site reactions
• Why MOTS-c may not be a good fit for everyone
• Tina’s experience with a high dose of Thymosin Alpha-1 and the importance of starting low and slow
• FOXO4-DRI and the theory behind targeting senescent “zombie” cells
• Why the dose can make a big difference with peptides
• Tina’s experience using ARA 290 for severe nerve pain• Tina’s experience with Tirzepatide and Retatrutide
• Why Retatrutide caused increased heart rate and anxiety for Tina at higher doses
• Why individual responses to GLP-1s can be so different
• Tina’s experience with Tesamorelin + KPV
• Her less positive experience with Tesamorelin + Ipamorelin
• KPV for inflammation and why Tina likes combining it with growth hormone peptides
• Tina’s experience with 5-Amino and increased energy
• Her first impressions of topical GHK-Cu for skin• How practitioners can troubleshoot when a peptide isn’t producing the expected results
• Peptides for Practitioners and the importance of learning how to use peptides responsibly with clients
• How practitioners can integrate peptide education into their businesses

EPISODE 63: How GLP-1s Changed Her Life After Early Menopause & Breast Cancer with Lois Essenfeld
Season 1, Episode 63
Show notes
Welcome back to Peptides for Women podcast!
In this episode, I’m joined by Lois Essenfeld, a certified Institute for Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition trainee, to talk about her long health journey through severe endometriosis, medically induced menopause, hormone-positive breast cancer, difficult menopause symptoms, and eventually discovering GLP-1 and peptide therapy.
Lois was diagnosed with severe endometriosis in her 20s and went through surgery that removed most of one ovary. She was then placed into medical menopause with Lupron and spent more than 20 years on birth control. Years later, at age 48, she was diagnosed with hormone-positive breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy.
Her experience with Tamoxifen was extremely difficult, and although switching medications helped mentally and emotionally, she continued to struggle with hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain, inflammation, weight gain, and feeling disconnected from her body. Because of her history, hormone replacement therapy wasn't an option for her.
Then she discovered functional health, FDN, and eventually GLP-1 therapy. After starting a low dose of tirzepatide, Lois noticed a dramatic improvement in her joint pain and inflammation within days, followed by improvements in her hot flashes, night sweats, and overall quality of life.
Now, Lois is passionate about learning more about peptides and helping other women navigate their own health journeys through midlife.
In this episode, we cover:
• Lois's experience with severe endometriosis and why it took years to get the right diagnosis
• Being put into medical menopause at just 26
• Her fertility journey and becoming a mom after losing most of one ovary
• Her experience with hormone-positive breast cancer at 48
• Why Tamoxifen was so difficult for her
• Switching from Tamoxifen to anastrozole
• Hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain, inflammation, and weight gain during menopause
• Why hormone replacement therapy wasn't an option for Lois
• Her journey into health coaching and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition
• How she discovered peptides and GLP-1 therapy
• What changed for her after starting tirzepatide
• The importance of understanding your options instead of making health decisions from fear
• Her interest in learning more about peptides as a cancer survivor
• The emerging research around GLP-1s and cancer
• How Lois hopes to help other women through midlife and menopauseConnect with Lois Essenfeld!

In this episode, I’m joined by Alissa Meisel, an occupational therapist, board-certified health and wellness coach, and founder of Meisel Health, to talk about her incredible 150+ pound weight-loss journey and how bariatric surgery, GLP-1s, peptide therapy, and lifestyle changes became different tools along the way.
Alissa has spent years struggling with her weight, dieting, exercising, and trying to figure out why nothing seemed to work long-term. After infertility treatments contributed to significant weight gain, she ultimately underwent sleeve gastrectomy in 2020 and lost more than 100 pounds.

That’s when she began exploring GLP-1s and peptide therapy, which became another tool in her health journey and helped her lose an additional 30 pounds.
In this episode, we talk about the physical AND emotional side of weight loss, why mindset matters, what happens after bariatric surgery, and how feeling comfortable and confident in your body can impact every area of your life, including your marriage and intimacy.

Season 1, Episode 60
Show notes
Welcome back to Peptides for Women podcast!
In this episode, I’m joined by Samantha Lander -- an FDN practitioner, international best-selling author, professional DJ, and adjunct professor at My Peptide University -- for part 2 of our Q&A series. We’re answering more questions from our community about GLP-1s, peptide therapy, inflammation, nervous system regulation, rheumatoid arthritis, bariatric surgery, weight loss plateaus, and growth hormone peptides.
If you’ve ever wondered what to do when a GLP-1 stops working, which peptides may support inflammation and tissue repair, or how to approach peptides after bariatric or weight-loss surgery, this episode covers a lot of ground.
We also talk about the importance of addressing the foundations first, including nutrition, movement, gut health, mitochondrial health, and nervous system regulation, rather than relying on peptides alone.
Throughout the episode, Samantha and I share our own experiences with different peptides and discuss how we approach peptide protocols with clients. As always, individual responses can vary, and peptide therapy should be approached with appropriate professional guidance.
In this episode, we cover:
•
What to do when GLP-1s stop working or weight loss plateaus
•
Why more GLP-1 isn’t necessarily better
•
Microdosing GLP-1s and taking a more individualized approach
•
Peptides discussed for inflammation and tissue repair, including BPC-157 and TB-500
•
Thymosin Alpha-1 and immune support
•

In this episode, I’m joined by one of our favorite returning guests, Samantha Lander, for a fun and candid Q&A dedicated entirely to your peptide questions.
Samantha is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, certified personal trainer, holistic lifestyle coach, and peptide educator who works with women and men to improve their health from the inside out. Together, we tackle some of the most common questions and concerns we hear about peptides, from whether certain peptides are appropriate with a history of cancer to using peptides for metabolism, brain fog, recovery, and healthy aging.
We also dive into the importance of starting with the foundations before relying on peptides, why lower doses may sometimes be more appropriate, how Samantha approaches cycling peptides with her clients, and why the goal shouldn't simply be to suppress appetite or chase weight loss.

In this episode, we cover:
• Whether growth hormone peptides are appropriate for people with cancer or a history of cancer
• How Samantha uses bioregulators to support areas like sleep, cortisol, adrenal function, and thyroid health
• Using Epitalon and Pinealon as part of a sleep and circadian rhythm protocol
• Why Samantha prefers lower-dose GLP-1 approaches with many of her clients

• Why cycling off GLP-1s and focusing on mitochondrial health may be important
• The connection between gut health and brain fog
