3 Days Left to Live: Evan’s Battle With Alcohol Addiction and Liver Failure
Season 6, Episode 315
Show notes
Evan spent years drinking heavily, often going through a fifth of liquor every other day. But without hangovers, withdrawals, or many of the warning signs he expected, he convinced himself his drinking wasn’t a problem.
What started as liquid courage while performing on stage eventually became a way to cope with trauma, heartbreak, and the emotional toll of caring for his mother as she battled dementia.
In January 2025, everything changed. Evan was hospitalized with alcohol-related liver failure and told he needed a liver transplant to survive. After receiving a life-saving transplant, doctors revealed he had been just three days away from dying.
In this episode of Sober Motivation, Evan shares his journey through alcohol addiction, the warning signs he missed, the emotional reality of receiving a donated liver, and how sobriety has given him a second chance at life.
His story is a powerful reminder that alcohol addiction doesn’t look the same for everyone, and you don’t have to wait until everything falls apart to make a change.
If you’re questioning your relationship with alcohol, trying to quit drinking, or looking for hope in recovery, this conversation is for you.

In this episode of the Sober Motivation Podcast, Chris shares his journey from college binge drinking and blackouts to alcohol addiction, treatment, and long-term sobriety. He opens up about using alcohol to cope with depression, why professional success couldn’t fix what was happening inside, and how he spent years hiding his sobriety from the people around him.

Staying Sober: Why the Small Wins Matter Most
Season 6, Episode 308
Show notes
What really changes when you stop drinking, and what are some of the biggest benefits of sobriety that nobody talks about?
When we think about quitting alcohol and getting sober, we often focus on the big milestones: 30 days sober, 90 days sober, one year sober, or even hitting rock bottom and turning our lives around. But some of the most powerful changes in recovery happen quietly, in the everyday moments nobody sees.
In this episode of the Sober Motivation Podcast, Brad explores the often-overlooked benefits of sobriety and the small daily victories that help build a meaningful life without alcohol.
From learning how to manage emotions without drinking to rebuilding self-trust, improving mental clarity, developing self-respect, and becoming more present in everyday life, the benefits of quitting alcohol go far beyond simply staying sober.
Whether you’re navigating early sobriety, struggling through the first 90 days without alcohol, experiencing the emotional ups and downs of recovery, or have been sober for years, it’s easy to overlook just how much progress you’re making.
The truth is, lasting sobriety isn’t built on one big decision. It’s built on thousands of small decisions that slowly change your life.
In this episode, we explore why celebrating small wins in recovery matters, how consistency helps build long-term sobriety, and why personal growth doesn’t always come with recognition or applause.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re making progress in your sobriety journey, this episode is a reminder that some of the biggest victories are the ones only you can see.

Amanda Thought Getting Sober Would Cost Her Everything. She Was Wrong
Season 6, Episode 305
Show notes
Amanda built much of her identity around partying. Drinking, drugs, festivals, relationships, and a large social circle weren’t just things she did—they had become part of who she believed she was.
Even when a doctor warned her that continuing to use drugs could kill her, Amanda couldn’t imagine stopping. In her mind, getting sober meant losing her friends, her relationship, her social life, and everything she considered fun.
As things progressed, Amanda began experiencing seizures. Then, after taking 30 days away from alcohol and drugs, she suffered another seizure while driving, crashed into a light pole, and ended up in the ICU. She says she experienced dozens more seizures in the hospital, spent days in a coma, and was told she had died for approximately five minutes.
When Amanda woke up, she began questioning everything she had built her life around.
In this episode, she talks about the reality behind her party lifestyle, losing her father, relationships, external validation, loneliness, walking away from her old life, and what it has actually taken to rebuild.
Today, Amanda is over a year sober—and says getting sober was the first domino that changed everything.

He Thought He Would Die Drinking: Sober Dave’s Story of Alcohol Addiction and Recovery
Season 6, Episode 301
Show notes
David Wilson, better known as Sober Dave, spent decades drinking before alcohol slowly took over nearly every part of his life. What began with drinking socially eventually progressed from beer to cider, wine and finally vodka — at his worst, Dave was drinking around a litre of vodka every night.
He would wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning still drunk, go to work hours later, spend entire weekends drinking alone and regularly black out. Looking back, Dave says he remembers very little of his 40s.
But on January 7, 2019, something changed.
A friend reached out and simply asked Dave if he wanted to stop drinking with him for three months. There was no judgment or lecture — just an offer of support. Dave said yes, and he hasn’t had a drink since.
In this episode of the Sober Motivation Podcast, Dave talks openly about the progression of his drinking, isolation, shame, the childhood experiences he never dealt with, losing his identity to alcohol, and why getting sober eventually required much more than simply removing the drink.
Dave and Brad also discuss connection, self-compassion, relapse and setbacks, nervous-system regulation, changing your relationship with alcohol, and why you don’t need to wait for a devastating rock bottom before deciding to change.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your drinking is “bad enough,” or you’re struggling to imagine a life without alcohol, Dave’s story is a powerful reminder of how much can change when you’re willing to start with one day.
