BUILT WITHOUT BURNOUT

Welcome to Built Without Burnout, where getting stronger, healthier, and more capable does not require making fitness your entire personality.

I’m Christina: coach, mom of four, runner, lifter, occasional suffer-for-fun endurance athlete, and firm believer that your training should make your life better, not take it over.

Around here, we talk strength training, running, cardio, nutrition, body composition, endurance, motherhood, mindset, and the systems that make all of it actually work in real life.

Because you can have big goals AND kids who need rides to practice. You can train hard AND eat dinner with your family. You can care about your body without spending every waking second trying to make it smaller.

Expect candid conversations with coaches, clients, athletes, moms, and other people figuring out how to build strong bodies and full lives without burning themselves into the ground.

No toxic hustle.
No perfection required.
No pretending real life isn’t happening.

Just smart training, practical nutrition, a little chaos, and a whole lot of getting stronger for the life you actually want to live.

Get strong. Build systems. Live your damn life.

  1. Holiday Weight Gain, Weekend Calories and Why Your Diet Keeps Backfiring

    Show notes

The holidays are coming, and if your plan is to be perfect Monday through Friday, avoid all the Halloween candy, and start over every time you have a big weekend...we need to talk. 😂

In this episode of Built Without Burnout, Christina and Stephanie are breaking down how to navigate holiday eating, weight management, and fitness goals without falling into the all-or-nothing trap.

We're talking about the stuff that actually happens in real life. The Halloween candy sitting on your counter, the cheese board you casually snack on during football, the cocktails that add up faster than you think, and why skipping meals to "save calories" for a holiday party might be making things harder.

    In this episode, we're covering:

🎃 Why the holidays might NOT be the best time to start an aggressive fat loss phase

🍷 How weekend calories, cocktails, and mindless snacking can impact your progress

🍽️ Why skipping meals before parties can backfire

⚖️ How to use the scale and nutrition tracking as information instead of punishment

💪 The habits worth prioritizing when your schedule gets chaotic

👩‍👧 How our relationships with food influence what our kids learn about nutrition and body image

❤️ Why maintaining your progress through the holidays can be a huge win

We're also sharing our own experiences with tracking macros, enjoying social events, raising kids around fitness and nutrition, and finding little ways to make healthy choices easier after decades of doing this ourselves.

The biggest takeaway? You don't have to choose between enjoying your life and taking care of yourself. But you do have to be intentional about what you want and what you're willing to do to get there.

Sometimes the best holiday fitness goal isn't losing weight. It's walking into January feeling strong, confident, and proud that you didn't abandon yourself along the way.

Want some support through the holiday season?

Christina's Holiday Strong program is designed to help you stay consistent, build strength, and make progress through the busiest months of the year without needing a perfect schedule.

  2. Nutrition in Real Life

    Show notes

Eating well gets a lot harder when real life enters the chat.

Restaurants. Fast food. Kids. Busy schedules. Drinks with friends. Food boredom. Random cravings. And the inevitable scale jump after a salty meal that makes you wonder what the hell happened overnight.

In this episode, Christina and Stephanie talk about how to make nutrition work in the real world without turning every meal into a test of willpower.

We cover protein and fiber, digestion, meal prep, eating out, alcohol, fast-food orders, hidden restaurant calories, managing macros on the go, and why one higher-calorie or higher-sodium meal does not mean you ruined your progress.

We also talk about the mental side of nutrition: avoiding the “I blew it, so screw it” spiral, learning when to make the smarter choice and when to just enjoy the meal, and building enough consistency that you don’t have to be perfect.

Because the goal isn’t to get really good at dieting.

It’s to get really good at eating in a way that supports your goals and still lets you have a life.

  3. Cardio doesn't have to SUCK!

    Show notes

CARDIO IS NOT THAT SERIOUS 😂 | How Much Do You Actually Need?

Running, walking, Zone 2, steps, intervals, heart rate zones… cardio can get VERY overcomplicated very quickly.

Christina and Stephanie are breaking down what actually matters, how to train for different goals, why you don’t have to become a runner to be “good at cardio,” and how to fit it into a busy life without hating every second of it.

Plus: ultra running, treadmill suffering, step-count tricks, training zones, recovery, and why sometimes the best cardio is simply the thing you’ll actually keep doing.

  4. FITNESS, FOOD AND THE MESSY MIDDLE WITH STEPHANIE MCKIBBAN

    Show notes

In this episode, Christina and Stephanie talk about the messy middle of fitness, coaching, competition, running, nutrition, and real life.

We get into hair thinning and supplements, the difference between coaching lifestyle clients and bodybuilding competitors, why peak week is so misunderstood, balancing endurance training with physique goals, and how nutrition and mindset can completely change performance.

We also talk carb loading, marathon training, postpartum body changes, core work, coaching relationships, client wins, and the reality that progress is rarely linear.

If you’re into bodybuilding, running, sustainable fitness, evidence-based coaching, or just figuring out how to stay healthy while life keeps happening, this episode is for you.

    Topics include:

    • Hair health and supplements
    • Bodybuilding vs. endurance training

  5. When Life is Chaos: Hunger Cues, Stress Eating, and Simple Nutrition Wins

    Show notes

In this episode, I’m sitting down with my client Ashlyn for her podcast debut — and we go everywhere (in the best way).

We talk about what it’s really like trying to take care of kids when healthcare access is a whole obstacle course: virtual pediatric care, ear infections that won’t quit, and the mental load of being the parent who has to figure it all out.
Then we shift into the stuff a lot of us don’t say out loud: emotional eating, “food scarcity” feelings, stress, control, and how hunger signals get messy when your nervous system is fried. Ashlyn shares what’s been coming up for her, what she’s learning through coaching, and what actually helps when the day gets chaotic.

We also get super practical — snack options that save you from the “I’m starving so I’ll eat anything” moment, workday nutrition that doesn’t require perfection, meal planning that won’t make you spiral, and the sneaky financial hit of eating out more than you realize.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by diet noise, stuck in all-or-nothing thinking, or like you’re trying to keep everyone alive while also taking care of yourself… this one’s for you.
