  1. How to Raise Healthy, Confident Eaters Without Food Guilt with Jennifer Anderson, MSPH, RDN

    Season 20, Episode 436

    Show notes

If you've ever bribed your kid with dessert or cooked a second dinner just to avoid a standoff, this conversation on raising kids with a healthy relationship with food is for you.

Steph sits down with Jennifer Anderson, registered dietitian, founder of Kids Eat in Color, and author of Feed Them Well: A Guide to Raising Healthy, Confident Eaters for Life. Jennifer shares why most child feeding research never considered your child's temperament, what she calls embodied independence, and why intuitive eating doesn't translate neatly to kids surrounded by hyper-palatable foods. You'll hear how to set limits on sweets without adding guilt, fear, or shame, how to answer "is this food bad?" without labeling foods good or bad, and why skipping body and weight talk at home matters for your child's relationship with food. If picky eating, diet culture, or Halloween candy has you second-guessing yourself, this episode gives you real scripts and a lot more breathing room.

    Season 20, Episode 433

    Show notes

I rolled my eyes at homeopathy the first time I heard about it in med school. Tiny sugar pellets? Now it's the first natural medicine I hand every Doctor Mom, and this video shows you why.

In this Homeopathy 101 episode, Dr. Elana explains the one rule homeopathy runs on: like cures like. You'll see how an onion becomes the remedy Allium cepa, and why homeopathy is its own branch of natural medicine instead of a supplement, herbal tincture, or vitamin. Dr. Elana shares why homeopathy for kids is her number one starting point for your natural medicine toolkit, and why four kids with four different coughs may need four different remedies. She wraps up with the questions moms ask most: what age to start, using it while pregnant or nursing, how to give homeopathic pellets, how long to try a remedy before switching, and whether you can mix remedies.

In this episode, he explains why two kids with the same ADHD diagnosis can have completely different brains, what a QEEG brain scan actually measures, and why he calls certain wiring patterns "gifts" instead of disorders. We also get into his Husky Phenomenon concept, why some kids self-regulate on screens while others fall apart, and how to find or request a brain scan for your own child. Dr. Steve Rondeau is a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor and the founder of Axon EEG Solutions. With a background in developmental pediatrics from his residency training, he specializes in helping families understand the biological root causes behind children's behavioral and academic challenges.

Sharing a naturopathic foundation with Dr. Elana, he focuses on helping proactive parents move beyond trial-and-error psychiatric treatment by using objective brain data. After analyzing more than 50,000 brain scans, Dr. Rondeau works with families to better understand how their child's brain functions.

He is known for reframing common diagnoses like ADHD and anxiety as unique brain strengths rather than broken systems. Through his concept of the "Husky Phenomenon," he teaches parents practical tools to understand their child's neurological wiring and create environments where they can naturally thrive.

  19. Is Your Child High Risk? How to Know Before the Next Vaccine Visit with Dr. Ari Calhoun

    Season 18, Episode 418

    Show notes

For the first time, the CDC vaccine schedule officially reflects that not every child has the same risk and that some vaccines now fall under 'shared decision making' between you and your doctor. Here's how to actually use that.

In this episode, Dr. Elana sits down with Dr. Ari Calhoun, ND to unpack the most significant shift in how the CDC frames childhood vaccination. The updated schedule now includes three categories: vaccines recommended for all children, vaccines for high-risk groups and vaccines based on shared decision making. Dr. Ari and Dr. Elana break down what those categories actually mean at a real doctor's visit, how to figure out your child's individual risk factors, which questions to bring to your pediatrician and what a pre and post vaccine support protocol can look like for families who want to minimize adverse reactions while still gaining the benefit of vaccination.

Whether you are fully on board with the CDC schedule, considering an alternative plan or somewhere in the middle, this episode gives you the language and the framework to make decisions that actually fit your child.

I realized early on that my dream career was to become a sports dietitian. Growing up a competitive dancer and swimmer, I was always intrigued by the impact eating certain foods before a competition or meet had on my performance. I had a love for science and how nutrition could have either the most beneficial or detrimental impact on both athletic performance and overall health.

My professional experience began after receiving Bachelor of Science degrees in both Dietetics and Exercise Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I went on to complete my dietetic internship at Saint Louis University to earn my title as a Registered Dietitian and a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition & Physical Performance.

Since founding Eleat Sports Nutrition® in June 2014, I have worked with hundreds of high school, college, and professional athletes nationwide in MLB, NFL, and NHL. I published Fuel Your Body: How to Cook and Eat for Peak Performance in 2021, and work as a media spokesperson for several brands across the health and wellness industry. Whether assisting an adult with weight management or educating an athlete on what to eat to improve their performance, I have a passion for helping others achieve their goals and teaching them how to make healthy eating a part of their daily lifestyle.
