Episode 712: Izzi Batt-Doyle: Breaking the Australian Marathon Record with a 2:20:38 in Chicago
Show notes
Izzi Batt-Doyle is on the podcast today after an absolutely incredible performance at the Chicago Marathon! Izzi ran 2:20:38, finishing sixth overall, taking more than two minutes off her personal best, and breaking the Australian marathon record!
Izzi is a two-time Olympian in the 5,000m and now holds the Australian records in the 10K, half marathon, and marathon. She is such a force, and I really wanted to make sure her performance in Chicago got the attention it deserved.
What I love about this conversation is that while Chicago looks like a massive breakthrough, Izzi explains why it was really the result of years of consistency, patience, and believing in what she was capable of. We talk about the changes she made to her training, including actually running fewer miles, how she approached racing in the heat, and what it was like to move from tenth to sixth place in the final mile!
We also talk about her fiancé Riley, who coaches her and paced her the entire way in Chicago, their businesses together in Australia, her journey through the NCAA and two Olympic Games, and what she’s hoping to accomplish in LA in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032.
I loved getting to know Izzi and hearing more about the work behind this incredible performance. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did!

Episode 711: 2026 Leadville 100 Champion McKendree Hickory
Show notes
Today on the podcast, I’m so excited to welcome McKendree Hickory, the 2026 Leadville 100 champion! A huge day and a huge summer for her, and we get to hear all about that experience, what went into the training, how the race went down, and what she’s looking forward to next. This episode is brought to you in partnership with Mount to Coast!
McKendree has her PhD and is the Head of Coaching at Next Arrow, where she partners with senior leaders navigating rapid growth. I love that she can use her psychology, leadership growth, and the skills she uses for work in running as well, and we talk about that a little bit in the conversation.
On top of winning Leadville in 2026 in a time of 19:36:12, she’s also the 2024 High Lonesome 100 winner. McKendree finished third at the 2025 Run Rabbit Run 100 Mile, and she was part of a historic all-female overall podium at the Aspen Marathon.
This conversation is especially interesting, discussing both the work she does professionally in corporate environments as well as being a professional runner supported by Mount to Coast. She was so easy to talk to and super inspiring. Enjoy my conversation with McKendree!

Their C1 shoe is designed with long-distance comfort in mind, offering substantial cushioning that holds up over extended efforts on the road. The brand’s approach reflects a commitment to endurance, creativity, and meeting runners where they are, whether that’s chasing a personal best or taking on something entirely outside the norm.

Episode 710: Jess McClain: A Full-Time Job, World Champs PR, and NYC Next
Show notes
Jess McClain is back on the podcast ahead of the NYC Marathon! After finishing fifth at the 2026 Boston Marathon in 2:20:49, the fastest time ever run by an American woman on the course, Jess continues to establish herself as one of the top marathoners in the country.
Jess and I catch up on her recent 66:53 half marathon PR at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, her progression from running the Mesa Marathon for fun to becoming an Olympic Trials contender, and what she’s looking forward to in New York. We also talk about how she’s approaching the road to the 2028 Olympics after narrowly missing the team in 2024.
We get into her relationship with coach David Roche, why she chooses to navigate professional running without an agent, and how she balances elite training with her full-time role as a nonprofit executive director and her new involvement as a part owner of The Marathon Project. Plus, Jess reflects on her decision to return to Brooks, the friendships she’s built in the sport, and why keeping running fun and maintaining perspective have been so important to her success.

Episode 709: Lisa Landrum: Building Community Through Running, Making Races More Accessible, and Empowering Young Girls
Show notes
I’m really excited to have Lisa Landrum on the podcast today! Lisa is a running and strength coach who has run and paced distances from the 5K to 100 miles. She’s a Boston Marathon finisher and multi-time qualifier, and she’s also completed the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim.
Lisa is the founder of RunCLTRun, a connector of the running community, and co-founder of Crown Collective, a race event community and marketing hub in Charlotte. She’s also a mom of three!
One of the things Lisa does that I love so much is host an annual running camp for high school girls. We talk about that, her work building community through running, and her involvement with Around the Crown 10K, which I ran back in August.
One of my favorite things about Around the Crown is its pay-what-you-can registration model, which makes racing more accessible. Lisa shares more about how that works, and I really hope more races will consider doing something similar!
I hope you enjoy this conversation with Lisa!

She won the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile, set an American record in the 8K, finished second at the USATF 5K Championships, and most recently placed fifth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Copenhagen, running 66:23 as the top American finisher.

Episode 707: Nicky Tamberrino: Maybe Running Will Help?
Show notes
Nicky Tamberrino is the host of Maybe Running Will Help, the newest addition to the SandyBoy Productions Podcast Network. She’s a sub-three-hour marathoner, running coach based out of Baltimore, lifelong athlete, and mother.
Maybe Running Will Help is powered by Charm City Run, and Nicky has welcomed guests including Zach Bitter, Rory Linkletter, Ashley Paulson, and Killian Korth.
In this conversation, Nicky and I have a very casual chat about what she’s up to, her history with running, and how she sees herself in the running space, community, culture, and industry. I definitely go off script in conversations like this, and it ends up being even more of a back-and-forth than my conversations with professional athletes.

Episode 706: Annie Rodenfels: Making the Jump to the Half Marathon and Representing Team USA
Show notes
Annie Rodenfels is back on the podcast! Annie is one of the seven women we’re sending to the Half Marathon World Championships in Copenhagen, and I’m so excited to see her making this jump up in distance.
Annie is a newbie to the half marathon. The U.S. Championships was actually her first half marathon! She’s known for being a steeplechaser and 5K runner, and she’s making the pivot to longer distances while still dabbling in the shorter distances as well. She’s definitely not done there.
Annie is a D3 legend. She was a three-time national champion at Centre College, and after college she joined a pro team in Greenville, South Carolina, before eventually joining Team New Balance Boston. Now she’s training under Coach Julie Benson with the Meridian team and landed her first real-deal sponsorship with Salomon about a year ago. We talk about how meaningful it was for her to finally land that deal and what that support has meant for her career.
She’s also a three-time champion of the New York Road Runners Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K, winning it in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
We talk about her excellent half marathon debut at the U.S. Championships and, of course, the finish-line drama. Annie crossed the finish line third, but there was a whole situation with a group of women being taken off course, and she gives us the rundown on what actually happened.
Now she’s getting ready to represent Team USA in Copenhagen, and there are definite plans to eventually pursue the marathon. It’s so exciting to see Annie move into these longer distances. She’s such a strong runner, and I personally think the marathon is going to be a great spot for her.
And we have a fun little chat about books at the end, too!
All right, friends, please enjoy my conversation with Annie Rodenfels!

Episode 705: Leah Yingling: One Year Postpartum and 12th at UTMB
Show notes
Today we get to hear from a UTMB finisher and co-host of the Trail Network Podcast, Leah Yingling! It was such an honor to talk with Leah on the show. I’ve looked up to her for a long time, and I can’t believe this is actually her first time being on the podcast one-on-one.
Leah is one year postpartum and just completed UTMB with a 12th place finish in just over 24 hours. She’s no stranger to this race. In 2023, she had a top-10 finish at UTMB, and that same year she also finished in the top 10 at Western States. She’s a three-time top-10 finisher at Western States.
In this episode, you’re going to hear all about her UTMB experience, but we also bring it way back to her early days of running and talk a lot about what the postpartum process of returning to running has looked like for her. Leah really carved her own path getting to the start line of UTMB, taking her time coming back to running, coaching herself for much of the year, and listening to what her body needed.
Leah works full time in biomedical engineering and health data, is a Lululemon ambassador, and is mom to one-year-old Monty. Her husband, Mike, is also deeply involved in the trail world as both a photographer and ultra runner, so we talk a lot about what that balance has looked like for them as they navigate being first-time parents, working, training, and still finding time for each other.
And, of course, we get into UTMB. Leah shares what it was like chasing a sub-24-hour finish and a top-10 spot, running the final hours alongside Amanda Basham, and walking away from a really good race while still knowing there’s more she wants to get out of herself.
I so enjoyed this conversation with Leah. If you enjoy hearing from her, definitely go check out the Trail Network Podcast, which is part of the Sandy Boy Productions Podcast Network.
Thank you so much for being here, and enjoy my conversation with Leah Yingling!

Episode 704: Waleed Suliman: From Jordan to Ole Miss, the Brooks Beasts, and Unfinished Business in the 1500
Show notes
Today on the podcast we have Waleed Suliman! Waleed runs with the Brooks Beasts under Coach Danny Mackey. He ran at Ole Miss, where he was a five-time SEC champion and four-time NCAA All-American, and was part of their 2020 SEC Cross Country Championship team. He also placed third in the indoor mile at the NCAA Championships and has competed in both the 2021 and 2024 Olympic Trials in the 1500.
When I was prepping for this interview, I heard Danny Mackey describe Waleed as a high risk taker, not afraid to fail, and very talented, and says that very few athletes he’s worked with have had all three of those qualities.
I got to know him a little bit when he came to Raleigh for the Sir Walter Mile and knew I had to have him on the podcast. Unfortunately, he took a nasty fall at Sir Walter and ended up with a stress fracture in his sacrum, so his season ended a little earlier than planned. We talk about the injury, what recovery looks like, and why he’s leaning into some of the other things he loves, like fishing and music, while he can’t run.
Waleed was born in Jordan after his parents fled Darfur, Sudan, and moved to the United States at 15. He became a 10-time state champion in Virginia before heading to Ole Miss, where his running really took off. I loved hearing more about his family’s story, adjusting to life in the U.S., finding his place through running, and eventually choosing Ole Miss.
We also talk about why the team environment of the Brooks Beasts works so well for him, his relationship with Danny Mackey, what it’s like training alongside athletes like Josh Kerr, and where he wants to take his own career. Waleed has a 3:51 mile PR on the track, 3:52 on the roads, and a 3:33 1500 PR, and he feels like he still has a lot of unfinished business in the sport.
And, of course, we get into the fun stuff too: fishing, music, his favorite no-skip albums, his girlfriend’s upcoming Berlin Marathon, and a few book recommendations.
Enjoy my conversation with Waleed Suliman!

Episode 703: Noah Droddy: Life After Professional Running
Show notes
Noah Droddy is back on the podcast! Noah is a 2:09 marathoner, retired professional runner, new dad, co-host of D3 Glory Days, and now works for Blistering Pace, where I’m lucky enough to work with him at a couple of their races each year.
In this episode, we talk a lot about the transition from professional running to building a career outside of the sport. Noah opens up about realizing he was ready to walk away from professional running, the difficult period that followed, the rejection and uncertainty of his job search, and how he ultimately landed at Blistering Pace.
We also talk about becoming a new dad, supporting his wife Emma as she trains for the Chicago Marathon, his changing relationship with running, some of the highs of his professional career, D3 Glory Days, and why he wants other athletes navigating this transition to know they don’t have to do it alone.
I think this conversation is relatable far beyond professional running. Transitions are hard, and Noah speaks so openly about identity, purpose, rejection, and figuring out what comes next.

Episode 702: Vanessa Fraser on a 4:31 Dog Mile, Health Challenges, and the Marathon Ahead
Show notes
This episode of I’ll Have Another Podcast is supported by Kava Haven: http://kavahaven.com/IllHaveAnother for 15% off your order.
Friends, Vanessa Fraser is back on the podcast! She hasn’t been on the show in probably eight years, so I was really excited to reconnect with her and hear everything she’s been up to.
Vanessa ran at Stanford, where she was a 10-time All-American, before running professionally with the Bowerman Track Club. She has a 14:48 indoor 5K PR, spent some time training with Team Boss, went back to her college coach Coach Miltenberg, and now she’s announced that she’ll be working with David Roche as she sets her sights on the roads and, eventually, the marathon.
Vanessa’s career hasn’t gone exactly how she expected it would when she turned pro. She’s dealt with injuries and a frustrating medical condition that has made fueling incredibly difficult. She recently stepped away from her corporate job and is going all in on running, and I loved hearing her perspective on constantly striving for something that doesn’t always come to fruition in the way you imagined.
We talk about her years with Bowerman, Team Boss, going back to Coach Miltenberg, her relationship with Saucony, leaving the corporate world, her health struggles, and why she’s ready for this next chapter with David Roche.
And we have to talk about Gigi! Vanessa recently ran a 4:31 mile with her dog, setting an unofficial world record for the dog mile. I loved hearing about their relationship and how much fun Vanessa had getting to race as a team with her dog.
This conversation honestly helped me see some things in my own career in a fresh perspective. Vanessa made me feel really seen and cared for, and I hope she felt the same from me. I’m so grateful for conversations like this one, and I know you’re going to enjoy hearing more of Vanessa’s story and what she’s been up to over these past few years.

Episode 701: Monica DeVreese on Building Rabbit, Running 2:57, and a Life in the Running Industry
Show notes
This episode of I’ll Have Another Podcast is supported by Kava Haven: http://kavahaven.com/IllHaveAnother for 15% off your order.
Today on the podcast, we’ve got Monica DeVreese, one of the co-founders of Rabbit. Rabbit has been some of my favorite running apparel, especially recently, and when we launched the Female Founded series, I really wanted to have Monica on the podcast.
Monica has over 20 years of experience in the industry and owns the Santa Barbara Running Company with her husband. She has experience as a runner, consumer, specialty running store owner, and brand builder. She’s run a 2:57 marathon, completed several 100-mile distances, spends a lot of time on the trails, and is also a mother of two.
I have to say, I think it’s pretty obvious that Rabbit is owned by two women because, to me at least, you can tell the female body was taken into deep consideration when designing their apparel. I’m loving their new shorts with the roses on them and have been wearing them all the time. They’re so cute.
I love getting to know industry leaders and people in this community outside of the pro runners sometimes. I’m excited to share this conversation with Monica and I know you’re going to find her inspiring just like I did.
If you’re enjoying the podcast, leave us a quick rating and review and share it with your friends on social media. I would really appreciate it.

Episode 700: Madie Boreman on a Breakthrough 9:17 Steeplechase and Bronze at USAs
Show notes
I’m really excited about my guest today. I got to host this interview in person at my house, which was really, really fun! Madie Boreman joins me after placing third and earning a bronze medal in the steeplechase at USAs, where she ran a huge PR of 9:17.
Madie ran for CU, and before that, she was a Texas state champion. She tells us a story about running a 5:09 mile in sixth grade. What?! Crazy fast.
After CU, she went on to run professionally and had a sponsorship with Oiselle for a while. Now she is an unsponsored athlete. You’ll see her running in a Bandit kit right now, and she shares more about that in this episode. She also works full time, recently moved to Flagstaff, and continues to pursue her running dreams.
Madie has competed in two Olympic Trials, in 2021 and 2024, in the steeplechase. She’s coached by Julie Benson and has big dreams ahead of her.
She told me in this episode that placing seventh at USAs was about where she thought she might land, and instead, she walked away with a bronze medal. So it’s really, really exciting to see what’s happening for her right now. She also recently won the Brooklyn Mile and is competing in the Sir Walter Miler.
I’m so excited to share Madie’s story with you, continue cheering for her, and see where this journey goes. Go give her a follow on social media and become a fan of hers throughout her running career.
Please enjoy my conversation with Madie Boreman!

Episode 699: Ryan Montgomery: From a 28-Hour 100-Miler to the Western States Podium
Show notes
I’m so excited to share this conversation with Ryan Montgomery, who placed third at Western States this year in a huge breakthrough race. The top three men all broke Jim Walmsley’s previous course record, with Ryan running 13:53. This was his fourth consecutive year running Western States after placing seventh twice, and to say this was a breakthrough is a bit of an understatement. Being in the top 10 at Western States is a huge deal, but being on the podium is an even bigger deal.
We talk about Ryan’s history with running, how he fell in love with long distances, and the journey it took to get to this level. A lot of people might not know that his first 100-mile race took him 28 hours. The process he’s walked through to achieve these really high-level goals is fascinating. He is truly dedicated to the craft.
We also get into the backstory of Ryan’s life and so much more. He set the FKT on the Wonderland Trail in 2020, placed second at the Javelina 100 in 2021, and recently earned his MBA from Dartmouth.
I don’t always get off an interview feeling like I really know a person, and I really felt like I knew Ryan at the end of this conversation. I loved this one so much.
Ryan is also the founder of Out Trails and shares more about that in this conversation. We’ll link all of the resources we talk about in the show notes.

Episode 694: Rachael Rudel – After a Decade Away, She’s Now One of America’s Best
Show notes
Rachael Rudel is having one of the biggest breakthrough seasons in American distance running. After years away from elite racing, she’s back in a big way. This spring she became the top American woman at both the Boulder Boulder and the B.A.A. 10K, finished second overall at the B.A.A. 10K in a personal best 31:31, placed runner-up at the USATF 4 Mile Championships, and broke the course record at the Horsetooth Half Marathon.
Rachael shares the story behind her journey, from battling an eating disorder that stemmed from an undiagnosed case of celiac disease, to making the difficult decision to undergo a preventative double mastectomy after testing positive for the BRCA gene mutation. She talks openly about rebuilding her relationship with running, returning to competition after nearly a decade away from the elite level, and why she believes she’s still only scratching the surface of her potential.
We also dive into her work with Front Range Elite, training under coach David Roche and now recently beginning to work with agent Josh Cox, balancing a demanding full-time career alongside professional-level racing, and what’s next as she eyes the marathon and beyond.

Episode 693: Female Founder Series: Dimity McDowell on Leaving Running Behind and Finding The 27th Mile
Show notes
Today we’re continuing the Female Founder Series with author, podcaster, and co-founder of Another Mother Runner, Dimity McDowell.
Dimity was one of the first people I really knew in the running space over a decade ago when I started dipping my toes into podcasting and becoming part of the broader running community beyond my hometown of Indianapolis. Alongside her co-founder, Sarah Bowen Shea, she helped create a movement with Another Mother Runner by providing support, encouragement, and connection to women around the country and around the world. That community continues today, and Another Mother Runner has recently found a new home with Feisty Media.
As Dimity entered a new season in her own athletic journey, she wrote a beautiful book called The 27th Mile: How to Smooth the Rough Transition Out of the Running Years. She’s a former contributing editor at Runner’s World, and through this book she’s supporting anyone whose relationship with running is beginning to change.
As I’ve navigated my own injury and foot surgery, this book helped me feel a little less alone. Watching other people accomplish incredible things while wondering what my own future in running might look like has been emotional, and I think learning to accept change is an important part of the process. In The 27th Mile, Dimity reckons with her decision to stop running, grieves leaving behind a sport she deeply loved, and shares how she rediscovered purpose, connection, and those endorphins on the other side.
I love Dimity’s heart and everything she’s done for women in the running community over the years. And I’ll tell you what, interviewing another podcaster is always fun because they know how to have a great conversation.
If you’re in any kind of transition with your own running journey, I highly recommend checking out The 27th Mile.
Thanks so much for being here, and I hope you enjoy my conversation with Dimity McDowell.
