Sister Bea M. – Her Story | A Nun's Journey Through Alcoholism | Hawaii 2003
Show notes
A Catholic nun, an alcoholic, and a story filled with laughter, honesty, and unexpected spiritual growth.
Sister Bea M. of Brea, California, shares her experience, strength, and hope at the 2003 Hawaii Regional Conference, approximately 25 years after finding sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Born in Ireland and raised in a large Irish Catholic family, Sister Bea experienced significant loss early in life before entering religious life in 1950.
She later moved to Southern California, where her experience with alcohol eventually became an increasingly serious problem.
Despite years devoted to religious life, she discovered that alcoholism required more than intellectual understanding or spiritual knowledge alone.
In this recording, Sister Bea reflects on her experience finding Alcoholics Anonymous, her early struggles with accepting the program, and the people who helped her begin living differently.
Her sharp humor and engaging storytelling bring warmth to difficult subjects, including family loss, alcoholism, forgiveness, surrender, and the continuing importance of spiritual growth.
One of the most memorable aspects of her story is the realization that having faith and learning to live by spiritual principles are not always the same thing.
Through the Twelve Steps and the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, Sister Bea found a new understanding of recovery.
Her recordings remain an engaging part of the historical A.A. speaker-tape tradition.

Judge Jack C. – From the Bench to the Big Book | AA Speaker | Portland 2011
Show notes
What happens when a man who spent his career in law enforcement and the courtroom discovers that alcoholism is beyond his ability to control?
Judge Jack C. of Hagerstown, Maryland, shares his experience, strength, and hope at the Rule 62 Speaker Meeting, held April 16, 2011, in Portland, Oregon.
Known through his historical A.A. recordings for his humor, courtroom experiences, and engaging storytelling, Jack brought an unusual background to the microphone.
His career included law enforcement and the legal profession, yet his earlier recorded presentations reveal how alcoholism affected his personal life and relationships.
Through Alcoholics Anonymous, Jack found the fellowship, sponsorship, and spiritual principles that helped him begin living differently.
His surviving talks reflect the importance of the Twelve Steps and the experience of learning that intellectual understanding alone cannot produce lasting recovery.
Jack spoke at conventions and roundups across the country, including the Gopher State Roundup, Atlanta Roundup, San Diego Roundup, and Tennessee State Convention. He also participated in workshops examining the practical application of the Steps.
This recording preserves another opportunity to hear a speaker who could bring laughter into the room while sharing the serious experience of alcoholism and recovery.

Steve L. – Character Defects & the Twelve Steps | Florida State Convention 2026
Show notes
What does Alcoholics Anonymous really mean by defects of character—and how do we begin changing the attitudes and behaviors that keep us stuck?
Steve L. of Nashville, Tennessee, presents “What Do You Mean My Character Is Defective?” at the 68th Florida State Convention in Orlando, Florida, on August 8, 2026.
Sober since June 30, 1989, according to his earlier recorded testimony, Steve brought more than 37 years of recovery experience to this workshop.
A longtime A.A. speaker, Steve has shared his experience at conventions and Twelve Step workshops throughout the United States.
His previous presentations explore self-centeredness, fear, ego, and the difference between knowing the principles of recovery and actually practicing them.
Character defects can show up in unexpected ways.
Sometimes as resentment or dishonesty.
Sometimes as pride, self-righteousness, or the desire to control.
And sometimes as an overwhelming concern about what other people think of us.
The Fourth through Seventh Steps offer an opportunity to recognize these patterns, take responsibility for our behavior, and become willing to experience meaningful change.
Recovery is not a demand for perfection. It is an invitation to continue growing.

Sober since January 13, 1970, Cliff brought more than 34 years of recovery to the microphone.
A high school teacher for 35 years, Cliff was recognized for his accomplishments in speech and debate. Yet his earlier recorded presentations describe the painful contrast between his professional achievements and the effects of his drinking on his marriage, children, and personal life.

Pat & Vince Y. – Financial Amends | AA Steps 8 & 9 | Hilton Head 2007
Show notes
What does making financial amends really mean—and why can money be one of the hardest subjects to face in recovery?
Pat and Vince Y. of Pasadena, California, present a Financial Amends Workshop at the 26th Mid-Winter Conference, recorded January 27, 2007, in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Their experience with financial recovery was personal.
After facing debt and financial difficulties in their own lives, Pat and Vince began helping other members of Alcoholics Anonymous address similar struggles.
Their work eventually developed into a recovery-focused finance class, where members could confront financial obligations, examine spending habits, and begin practicing greater honesty and accountability.
The subject connects closely with Steps Eight and Nine, which ask members to become willing to make amends and take appropriate action to repair past harm.
But financial amends aren't always straightforward.
What happens when we owe more than we can repay immediately? How do we begin making things right? And how do we change the attitudes and behaviors that contributed to our financial difficulties?
The goal is not simply to repay what we owe, but to become people who live with greater honesty, responsibility, and integrity.
This historical workshop offers a valuable perspective for A.A. members, sponsors, and anyone working through the financial consequences of alcoholism.

Bill C. – Five Pillars of Spirituality | AA Speaker | Sydney Roundup 2023
Show notes
What are the foundations of a healthy spiritual condition in Alcoholics Anonymous?
Longtime A.A. speaker Bill C. of Torrance, California, presents “Five Pillars of Spirituality” at the 2023 Sydney Roundup in Sydney, Australia.
Bill's recorded speaking history spans decades, with presentations on sponsorship, the Twelve Steps, emotional sobriety, spiritual growth, and the ongoing work of learning to live differently.
His approach to recovery emphasizes something that can take years to fully appreciate: stopping drinking doesn't automatically resolve the attitudes, fears, and patterns of thinking that shaped our lives.
Through the spiritual principles of Alcoholics Anonymous, members have an opportunity to develop greater self-awareness, humility, compassion, and meaningful relationships with others.
Bill's earlier presentations also emphasize sponsorship and service as practical expressions of spiritual growth—not simply obligations, but opportunities to move beyond self-centeredness and become useful to others.
This workshop from Sydney explores the spiritual condition that supports ongoing recovery and invites listeners to consider how those principles are practiced in everyday life.

Billy N. – Self-Support: The Seventh Tradition | AA International Convention 2025
Show notes
Why is self-support one of the fundamental spiritual principles of Alcoholics Anonymous?
Billy N. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, former member of the A.A. General Service Board of Trustees, presents “Self-Support: The Seventh Tradition” at the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The Seventh Tradition establishes that A.A. groups are responsible for supporting themselves through voluntary contributions while declining outside financial assistance.
This principle helps protect the Fellowship's independence and ensures that responsibility for maintaining A.A.'s essential services remains with its own members.
But self-support extends beyond the financial needs of individual meetings.
Contributions also help sustain intergroups, districts, areas, and the General Service Office, supporting the services that help carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous.
The relationship between money, spirituality, independence, and responsibility has been an important part of A.A.'s history and the development of its Twelve Traditions.
Billy N. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is a former General Service Board Trustee and an experienced presenter on Alcoholics Anonymous' Twelve Traditions, Twelve Concepts, and General Service structure.
Through his continuing service workshops, Billy shares his experience with the principles that guide the Fellowship, the responsibilities of trusted servants, and the historical development of A.A.'s service structure.
His presentations provide opportunities for members to deepen their understanding of the Traditions and their practical application in A.A. today.
The 2025 A.A. International Convention was held July 3–6, 2025, in Vancouver, British Columbia, celebrating 90 years of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Under the theme “90 Years – Language of the Heart,” members from around the world gathered for speaker meetings, workshops, fellowship, and the celebration of recovery.

Clif G. – Group Autonomy | AA Tradition Four | Vancouver 2025
Show notes
How can Alcoholics Anonymous groups operate independently while remaining united as one worldwide Fellowship?
Clif G. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, participates in “Group Autonomy” at the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Group autonomy is a foundational principle of Alcoholics Anonymous, closely connected to the Fourth Tradition and the responsibility of individual groups to the Fellowship as a whole.
Unlike organizations governed through a centralized authority, Alcoholics Anonymous gives individual groups considerable freedom to manage their own affairs.
Groups determine their meeting formats, select trusted servants, make decisions through their group conscience, and develop their own approaches to carrying the message.
But that freedom comes with responsibility.
The Fourth Tradition recognizes that decisions affecting other groups or Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole require consideration beyond the interests of any single group.
This balance between independence, responsibility, and unity has helped guide A.A. throughout its history.
Clif G. of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is an experienced A.A. speaker whose recorded presentations include appearances at conventions, roundups, and recovery workshops throughout the United States.
His archived speaking history includes the Georgia State Convention, Sobermania, Marietta Spring Roundup, and Allatoona Roundup.
His earlier presentations have explored the Twelve Steps, relationships, spiritual growth, and the importance of service in recovery.
The principle of group autonomy emerged from the experiences of A.A.'s earliest groups.
As Alcoholics Anonymous expanded, members discovered that groups needed the freedom to learn from their own successes and mistakes.
At the same time, the Fellowship recognized the importance of protecting its unity and common purpose.
Tradition Four reflects that balance.
For members involved in General Service, group leadership, or the study of the Twelve Traditions, understanding group autonomy provides important insight into how Alcoholics Anonymous continues to function.
The 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention was held July 3–6, 2025, in Vancouver, British Columbia, celebrating 90 years of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Under the theme “90 Years – Language of the Heart,” members gathered from around the world for speaker meetings, workshops, fellowship, and the celebration of recovery.

Show notes
Alcoholism is progressive. But sobriety can be progressive, too.
Don L. of Bellingham, Washington, shares his experience on “Sobriety Is Progressive Too” at the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
A longtime A.A. speaker, Don has spent decades sharing his experience at conventions, roundups, and Twelve Step workshops across North America and internationally.
His presentation addresses a meaningful aspect of recovery: the opportunity for continued growth long after the drinking has stopped.
The Twelve Steps offer more than a way to achieve sobriety. They provide principles we can continue practicing throughout our lives—in our relationships, our challenges, and our service to others.
Whether someone has been sober for a few months or several decades, the opportunity to learn and grow remains.

Billy N. – Concept 11: Committees, Directors & Staff | AA Service Workshop
Show notes
What makes effective leadership possible within Alcoholics Anonymous' General Service structure?
Billy N. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a former A.A. General Service Board Trustee, presents Concept Eleven during the October 20, 2026, Monday Night Service Workshop.
Concept Eleven examines the importance of qualified committees, corporate service directors, executives, staff members, and consultants in supporting the responsibilities of the General Service Board.
Although the trustees hold final responsibility for world service administration, they cannot carry out that work alone.
Bill W.'s Eleventh Concept addresses the selection of qualified people, clearly defined responsibilities, committee composition, rotation, working relationships, and appropriate compensation for specialized service workers.
The central principle is that effective service depends upon capable people, appropriate authority, and shared responsibility.
Drawing on his experience in General Service, Billy helps explore a subject essential to understanding how Alcoholics Anonymous maintains its worldwide services.
This workshop is particularly relevant to trusted servants, G.S.R.s, D.C.M.s, delegates, and members interested in studying the Twelve Concepts for World Service.

Billy N. – History & Purpose of the AA Reserve Fund | General Service Board (2026)
Show notes
Why does Alcoholics Anonymous maintain a Reserve Fund, and how does it help protect the Fellowship's essential services?
Billy N. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, a former member of the A.A. General Service Board of Trustees, presents “History and Purpose of the Reserve Fund,” exploring the origins, responsibilities, and spiritual principles behind this important part of Alcoholics Anonymous' General Service structure.
Established in 1954, the General Service Board Reserve Fund was created to help ensure the continuity of essential A.A. services during financial emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
But its purpose goes beyond financial security.
The Reserve Fund reflects A.A.'s commitment to self-support, prudent financial stewardship, accountability, and maintaining the services that help carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
With his firsthand experience in General Service, Billy brings an informed perspective to a subject that connects the practical responsibilities of the General Service Board with the spiritual principles of the Seventh Tradition.
This presentation is particularly relevant to G.S.R.s, D.C.M.s, area officers, trusted servants, and anyone interested in understanding how Alcoholics Anonymous supports and protects its worldwide services.

Marty C. – Breaching the Walls of Ego | AA International Convention 2025
Show notes
What does it mean to move beyond ego in Alcoholics Anonymous?
In “Breaching the Walls of Ego,” Marty C. of Ontario, Canada, addresses a subject central to the spiritual principles of recovery: recognizing the fears, resentments, pride, and self-centered thinking that can become barriers to personal growth.
Presented at the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, this discussion considers the importance of honesty, humility, willingness, and learning to live differently through the Twelve Steps.
The walls we build around ourselves can sometimes feel like protection. Yet those same walls may prevent us from accepting help, developing meaningful relationships, and experiencing the freedom that recovery can offer.
The Twelve Steps encourage continued self-examination, acceptance, and spiritual growth—not as a single achievement, but as an ongoing way of life.
Held July 3–6, 2025, the convention marked the 90th anniversary of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Under the theme “90 Years – Language of the Heart,” more than 33,000 attendees from 89 countries gathered in Vancouver to celebrate the worldwide Fellowship and the shared experience of recovery.

Debbie D. – Sober Awhile, Now What? | AA International Convention 2025
Show notes
What happens after you've been sober for years? Does recovery become easier, or does the work simply change?
Longtime Alcoholics Anonymous speaker Debbie D. of Concord, California, participates in “Sober Awhile — Now What?” at the 2025 A.A. International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Early sobriety often involves learning how to live without alcohol, developing a relationship with a sponsor, attending meetings, and beginning the Twelve Steps.
But as the years accumulate, recovery presents new opportunities for growth.
The challenges of everyday life, relationships, emotional sobriety, acceptance, and continued spiritual development can take on greater significance.
The Twelve Steps offer more than a solution to the immediate problem of drinking. They provide a continuing framework for personal growth and learning how to live differently.
Long-term sobriety raises an important question: Are we continuing to grow, or are we simply accumulating years?
Debbie D. of Concord, California, is a longtime A.A. speaker whose recorded presentations span more than two decades.
Her documented speaking history includes a 2004 presentation on Steps Ten, Eleven, and Twelve at the Road to Recovery Convention in Reykjavík, Iceland, and a 2021 presentation on sponsorship at the New Horizons Group in Bend, Oregon.
Her participation in conventions and workshops reflects her continued involvement in sharing the experience and principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Peter M. – Sex, Security and Society | AA International Convention 2025
Show notes
What happens when our natural instincts for love, security, and acceptance begin controlling our lives?
Peter M. of Boca Raton, Florida, presents “Sex, Security and Society” at the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The subject connects directly to the principles of Step Four and the examination of our basic human instincts described in A.A.'s Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.
Our desires for relationships, emotional and financial security, and acceptance within society are natural and necessary parts of life.
But when these instincts become distorted by fear, pride, resentment, or self-centeredness, they can create difficulties in our relationships and interfere with our spiritual growth.
The Twelve Steps provide a framework for examining these patterns honestly, recognizing our part in them, and developing a more balanced way of living.
Peter M. of Boca Raton, Florida, has shared his experience at numerous Alcoholics Anonymous conventions, roundups, and workshops.
His recorded speaking history includes appearances at the Georgia State Convention, Flint River Roundup, Atlanta Roundup, and workshops focused on the practical application of the Twelve Steps.
His previous presentations include discussions of Steps Six and Seven, Steps Ten and Eleven, and the continuing process of personal and spiritual growth.

Larcine G. – What's in My God Box? | Al-Anon Speaker | Vancouver 2025
Show notes
What does it really mean to let go and trust a Higher Power?
Longtime Al-Anon speaker Larcine G. of Hawthorne, California, presents “What's in My God Box?” from the 2025 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention in Vancouver, British Columbia.
For many Al-Anon members, a God Box is a practical spiritual tool used to help surrender worries, fears, resentments, and situations beyond their control.
Writing down a concern and placing it in a box can serve as a physical reminder that we do not have to carry every burden or determine every outcome ourselves.
The practice connects closely with the first three Steps of Al-Anon, which encourage members to recognize their powerlessness over alcohol, develop trust in a Higher Power, and become willing to turn over their will and lives.

Marty J. – Freedom Through Acceptance | 49 Years Sober | Vancouver 2025
Show notes
Can accepting the things we cannot change become the beginning of genuine freedom?
Longtime Alcoholics Anonymous speaker Marty J. of Richmond, British Columbia, shares on “Freedom Through Acceptance” at the 2025 A.A. International Convention in Vancouver.
Sober since February 7, 1976, Marty brought more than 49 years of experience in Alcoholics Anonymous to this presentation.
Acceptance is a fundamental principle of the Twelve Steps, encouraging us to recognize our limitations, surrender the illusion of control, and begin developing a different approach to life.
For many alcoholics, the struggle to control people, circumstances, and outcomes can continue long after the drinking has stopped.
Recovery offers an opportunity to examine those patterns and discover greater freedom through honesty, humility, willingness, and spiritual growth.
Marty J. is a longtime A.A. speaker from Richmond, British Columbia, whose sobriety dates to February 7, 1976.
A former radio personality, Marty has become known through his recorded presentations for his humor, engaging storytelling, and practical approach to the spiritual principles of recovery.
His archived speaking history includes the Cornhusker Roundup, Sobriety Under the Sun Convention, and numerous other recovery gatherings.
Across his earlier recordings, Marty has explored sponsorship, surrender, acceptance, spiritual awakening, and the continuing work of living the Twelve Steps.
