  1. E: 363 Parasites: Thoughts after 5 MORE Years in Practice

    Season 10, Episode 363

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Not everyone needs a parasite cleanse for everything happening in their body. In this episode, I explain why a cleanse might be part of the answer, but works best once your foundations are where they need to be. We cover the basics that get skipped, what drainage actually means, why repeating protocols can turn into symptom chasing, and when it does make sense to look at parasites specifically.

    In this episode:

    • Why parasites became the go-to explanation for every symptom
    • The foundations to check first: nourishment, hydration, digestion, bowel regularity, sleep, stress, and recovery
    • Drainage explained through your intestines, liver, kidneys, and lymph
    • Why feeling better after a cleanse doesn’t tell you what helped, and why feeling worse isn’t automatically “die-off”
    • The symptom patterns and exposures that call for parasite-specific testing
    • Four questions to ask before you start any protocol

5 Signs Your Immune System Is Overloaded and What to Do About It

Before you buy another immune supplement, what are you asking it to do?

Vitamin C, zinc, and elderberry can have a purpose. But if you’re frequently getting sick, struggling with digestive problems, or never quite recovering your energy, it’s worth looking at what keeps demanding more from your body and what support is missing.

In this episode, Audrey McLaughlin, Functional Health Practitioner with a background in nursing and a doctorate in Traditional Naturopathy, explores five patterns that deserve a closer look: physical signs of stress, unpredictable digestion, recurring illness, persistent inflammation, and fatigue.

You’ll learn how stress, nourishment, sleep, and recovery connect with immune function, plus practical ways to support yourself while addressing ongoing contributors. You don’t have to perfect your lifestyle before you can start feeling better.

    In this episode:

    • Stress that shows up physically: How the stress response can affect heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion, and why physical demands count alongside emotional stress.
    • Digestive problems: Why meal timing, food tolerance, stress, and symptom history should guide your next step.
    • Frequently catching illnesses: How to think about exposure, nutritional needs, vitamin C, vitamin D, and short-term zinc support.
    • Persistent inflammation: Why more immune activity is not automatically the goal, and how everyday nourishment fits into support.
    • Fatigue that keeps returning: Why meals, sleep quality, recovery capacity, and underlying causes need attention together.

We also discuss diaphragmatic breathing, outdoor time, targeted probiotics, and the different traditional uses of lemon balm, elderberry, and astragalus. Each tool should have an identifiable job, with realistic expectations and attention to whether it fits your situation.

    A practical place to start

Choose the pattern you recognize most. Then choose one relevant supportive practice and one ongoing contributor to address alongside it. That might mean restoring regular meals while investigating persistent fatigue, or protecting sleep opportunity while reviewing nutritional needs.

Work with Audrey: Root Cause Review

Are you treating fatigue, digestive discomfort, recurring illness, and stress as separate problems?

A Root Cause Review brings your history, symptoms, daily routines, nutrition, and available labs together to help identify a personalized starting point. You’ll leave with a starter plan and clearer priorities for what to support and what may need further evaluation.

    Season 10, Episode 361

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

In this episode, we’re looking at how a well-intentioned health routine can become disconnected from what your body actually needs. Daily fasting, extra cardio, and another supplement can all become habits you keep repeating without stopping to ask: Is this helping me?

We’ll also talk about the basics that can get overlooked while you’re busy researching your next protocol: sleep, stress, adequate nourishment, hydration, and recovery.

And if you’ve already addressed those foundations and still don’t feel well, we’ll explore why your symptoms deserve a closer look.

  4. E: 360 The Hidden Reasons Your Body Isn't Detoxing

    Season 10, Episode 360

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Before you start another cleanse, let's talk about whether you're pooping, eating enough, and giving your body a chance to recover.

Those details matter. A protocol can add more restrictions and more supplements while leaving the reasons you feel lousy completely unaddressed.

In this episode, I'm walking you through three areas I look at first: drainage, ongoing inputs, and cellular energy. We'll use my Marble Run analogy to explore elimination priorities, look at nutrition, environment, and lifestyle, and get into why mitochondria belong in this conversation.

We'll also talk about what to do when a cleanse leaves you feeling worse. Headaches, nausea, diarrhea, or exhaustion deserve a closer look before they're labeled detox progress.

You'll leave with a practical way to observe your daily patterns and choose a manageable starting point.

    In this episode

    • What I mean by drainage, and the different roles of the bowel, liver and bile, kidneys, and lymphatic system.
    • How the Marble Run analogy helps explain why I look at elimination before considering a cleanse.
    • Why bowel comfort, straining, and changes in your usual pattern matter alongside frequency.
    • How a long list of foods you avoid can hide gaps in what you're actually eating.
    • How to approach environmental exposures with specific, useful actions.
    • What mitochondria and ATP do, and why cellular work requires nourishment.
    • Why feeling worse calls for reassessment, and when symptoms need medical attention.
    • What to observe for several days before deciding what to change.

  5. E: 359 7 Signs Your Body Is More Inflamed Than You Think

    Season 10, Episode 359

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

You know inflammation matters. You may even suspect you’re inflamed. But do you know why your body keeps creating that response?

In this episode, Audrey walks through seven clues that may show up alongside persistent inflammation, including swelling and puffiness, scale fluctuations, body pain, skin issues, low vitamin D despite sun exposure, poor recovery, brain fog, and increased reactivity.

Then we go deeper into one particularly interesting pattern: low vitamin D despite plenty of appropriate sun exposure. You’ll learn how vitamin D is produced and processed, why acquisition may only be one part of the picture, and how thyroid, metabolic, lipid, and vitamin D markers can tell you more when you look at them together.

The question to take away from this episode:

What is your body responding to?

    Season 10, Episode 358

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

You went to be on time. Maybe you were even "out" for 8 hours. So why don't you feel rested?

In this episode, Audrey explains what happens during normal sleep cycles, why sedation is not synonymous with restorative sleep, and how medications, supplements, alcohol, light exposure, caffeine, food, stress, and metabolic health may influence how you feel the following morning.

    You will learn:

    • What sleep architecture means and why it matters
    • Why eight hours in bed may not equal eight hours of sleep
    • How morning, midday, and evening light help regulate the circadian rhythm
    • Why dimmer evenings are just as important as brighter days
    • How caffeine can affect sleep even when you fall asleep easily
    • Audrey’s updated Bulletproof Sleep Protocol
    • How Audrey uses magnesium glycinate, melatonin, 5-HTP, calming herbs, and taurine
    • What nighttime heat, hunger, or sudden alertness may reveal
    • Why fatigue can persist even after sleep improves
    • When lab patterns, nutrition, metabolic function, or total stress deserve a closer look

  7. E: 357 My Favorite Nervous System Reset: Diaphragmatic Breathing for Stress

    Season 10, Episode 357

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

What if your most accessible nervous-system reset required no equipment, app, supplement, or complicated routine?

In this episode of the Root Cause Revolution podcast, I’m teaching my favorite place to begin: diaphragmatic breathing. This simple breathing technique can help interrupt the immediate stress response and influence autonomic regulation, heart-rate variability, and how your body responds in the moment.

We’ll move beyond the vague instruction to “take a deep breath” and practice breathing in a way that encourages the abdomen and lower rib cage to expand without forcing an oversized breath or lifting the shoulders.

    In this episode, you’ll learn:

    • Why diaphragmatic breathing is different from simply taking a big breath
    • How shallow, upper-chest breathing can accompany a braced or stressed state
    • How to use a comfortable four-count inhale and six-count exhale
    • A beginning hand position for feeling abdominal and lower-rib movement
    • An advanced technique using both hands to feel the rib cage expand laterally
    • Why a longer exhale should feel relaxed rather than forced
    • How to combine breathing with grounding and sensory awareness outside
    • Why practicing while calm makes the technique easier to use during stress
    • The important difference between an immediate nervous-system reset and addressing the root causes of chronic stress

A few minutes of slow breathing may help change your current physiological state, but it cannot correct under-fueling, mineral imbalance, poor sleep, blood-sugar instability, inflammation, overtraining, or an unsustainable workload.

If your body continually returns to a stressed or depleted state, a Root Cause Review can help you connect your symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, and available labs so you have clarity about what may be contributing and where to begin.

    Season 10, Episode 355

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Gallbladder problems are about much more than gallstones. In this episode of the Root Cause Revolution Podcast, Audrey Christie explains what the gallbladder actually does, why bile matters for digestion and elimination, and why digestive symptoms can continue even after gallbladder removal.

You’ll learn how the liver produces bile, how the gallbladder stores and concentrates it, and why bile is important for fat digestion, absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K, intestinal function, hormone metabolite elimination, and metabolic signaling.

Audrey also breaks down lesser-discussed gallbladder and bile-related patterns, including sludge, poor gallbladder emptying, altered bile flow, post-cholecystectomy diarrhea, fat intolerance, pale or greasy stools, bloating, reflux, urgency, and right-sided abdominal discomfort.

The episode also explores why gallbladder dysfunction may be connected to a larger metabolic pattern involving insulin resistance, weight cycling, rapid weight loss, diet quality, liver health, and digestive dysfunction.

  10. E: 353 5 Signs Your Digestion Needs Help

    Season 10, Episode 353

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Digestive problems do not always look like severe stomach pain. In this episode of the Root Cause Revolution Podcast, Audrey Christie breaks down five common signs that digestion may need support: bloating, reflux, abnormal stool patterns, increasing food intolerances, and hormonal symptoms.

You’ll learn why persistent bloating may reflect problems with digestion, fermentation or motility, why reflux is not simply a “too much stomach acid” problem, what your bowel movements can reveal about digestion and elimination, and why an ever-growing food restriction list may be a clue that something deeper has changed. Audrey also explains the connection between digestion, liver function, bile, the microbiome and hormone metabolism.

Instead of treating bloating, reflux, constipation, food reactions and hormonal symptoms as completely separate issues, this episode will help you begin looking for the larger pattern behind them.

If you are tired of guessing, cycling through supplements, or eliminating more and more foods without understanding why your symptoms persist, a Root Cause Reviewcan help connect the dots. This review includes a health history and symptom assessment, available lab review, a 45 min session, and a personalized starter plan so you leave with clarity and a clear place to start.

    Season 10, Episode 352

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Today we're revisiting one of the most requested topics on this show: stomach acid. If you've been listening for a while, you know I did a deep dive on heartburn and PPIs a while back. Today is the 2026 update. What's changed, what's gotten clearer, and what I want you to know if you're still dealing with reflux, indigestion, or you're still on an acid-suppressing medication.

Let's bust the myth right out of the gate again, because it's still the most common misunderstanding I hear. Heartburn does not automatically mean you're making too much acid. Most of the time, it's the opposite. And I still see this taught to patients in exam rooms, in pharmacy pamphlets, in the way these medications are marketed. So today we're going deep. Mechanisms, testing, medication nuance, and what's actually changed in my clinical thinking since I first covered this.

Today's episode is one that I've been meaning to do for a long time, and it might be one of the most important episodes I've recorded. We're talking about the five root causes behind nearly every chronic health problem I see in my practice.

Here's the thing that keeps coming up over and over in my practice. I will see 15 women in a single week. Pick any random 3: One has high blood pressure. One has PCOS. One has arthritis. Three completely different diagnoses, three completely different treatment plans from their conventional providers, often three completely different specialists. And when I sit down with each of them and we start looking upstream at what is actually driving what's happening in their body, they often have the same five imbalances. Sometimes four of the same five. Sometimes all five.

    Different diseases. Same terrain.

In this episode, we cover: fatigue, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, cholesterol, psoriasis, migraines, insulin resistance, and anxiety.

Maybe a vitamin D capsule you remember to take some days and forget on others. Here's the thing. The vitamin D you'll actually have in your body in January was mostly made in June, July, and August. Not from a bottle. From the sun. And if you're not using this window right now, you are already behind before winter even shows up.

You've heard me talk before about the relationship between cholesterol and vitamin D, and I want to build on that today because it matters more right now than at any other point in the year.

Today we are talking about muscle. And before you click away thinking this is a fitness episode, I want you to stay with me, because what I'm about to tell you reframes everything you've been told about weight loss, metabolism, and what it actually means to be healthy as a woman.

This is one of those episodes I've been wanting to do for a while, because I see the consequences of getting this wrong every single week in my practice. So let's get into it.

  17. E:346 What Actually Changes Outcomes (And What Doesn't)

    Season 10, Episode 346

    Show notes

Here is something I have observed after more than 20 years working in health and wellness. When people are not getting the results they want they almost always assume the answer is more complexity. A different protocol. A more advanced test. A newer supplement. A better biohack.

And I understand that impulse completely. I lived it. When something is not working the brain wants to solve it by adding something. By finding the missing piece that must be out there somewhere more sophisticated than what you are already doing.

But in most cases — not all, but most — the missing piece is not more complexity. It is more consistency with the fundamentals that were never fully in place to begin with.

We are tackling that today, what is base zero, and the 5 pillars of the foundation, and how they can help.

  18. E: 345 Why Hormone Solutions Don't Hold for Some People

    Season 10, Episode 345

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Today, we are going into something I see play out in my practice every single week. And I have been wanting to do this episode for a while because I think it needs to be said clearly and without a lot of hedging.

We are talking about why hormone solutions don't work for some people.

And before I go any further, I want to set the record straight on what this episode is and is not. This is not an anti-hormone therapy episode. This is not an anti-medication episode. I take a yes-and approach to medicine. Conventional tools have their place. Hormone replacement therapy has helped a lot of women. GLP-1 medications have real clinical value in the right context. I am not here to tear any of that down.

What I am here to do is talk about the piece that keeps getting skipped. The upstream work. The foundational layer that has to be in place for any of those tools to actually do what they are supposed to do and keep doing it. Because when that layer is missing, I do not care how good the tool is. It will not hold.

And I see this pattern constantly. So let's talk about it.

  19. E: 344 What Your Thyroid Labs Are Actually Reflecting

    Season 10, Episode 344

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

Your thyroid labs came back "normal." So why do you still feel terrible?

If you have been exhausted, foggy, and frustrated despite doing everything your doctor told you to do — including taking your thyroid medication — this episode is for you.

This week, we are breaking down why the thyroid is rarely the root cause of thyroid symptoms, what your labs are actually reflecting, and the upstream drivers that conventional medicine almost never checks. She also shares the story of a client who had been on thyroid medication for 13 years, felt terrible the entire time, and is now completely off her medication and thriving — not because her thyroid was fixed, but because the real root causes were finally addressed.

    In this episode:

    • Why TSH is a pituitary marker, not a thyroid marker
    • How metabolic dysfunction silently suppresses thyroid conversion
    • The role of minerals, gut health, and chronic stress in thyroid function
    • Why thyroid medication is often incomplete without upstream support
    • What it actually looks like to address thyroid symptoms at the root

If you want to understand what your own labs might be reflecting, grab the free Metabolic Scorecard in the show notes. And if you are ready to connect the dots with personalized support, the Root Cause Review is where we start.

  20. E: 343 The Real Reason Your Health Protocol Isn't Working

    Season 10, Episode 343

    Show notes

Got a question? Send Audrey a Text and she will answer in an episode.

You're doing everything right. Clean diet, supplements, movement, stress management. And still — nothing is changing.

In this episode, we're breaking down why effort alone isn't the answer, and why most women who feel stuck are not failing — they're solving the wrong piece entirely.

We get into why your labs can say "normal" and still be missing the full metabolic picture, which early markers to look at right now, and why environment and timing matter more than most people realize.

If you have ever felt like your body is just not responding no matter what you do, this episode is where you start.
