What a Healthy Sexual Relationship Actually Looks Like
Episode 445
Show notes
Most couples can describe exactly what is wrong with their sex life. Ask them what they want instead, and the room goes quiet. This episode lays out what a healthy sexual relationship actually looks like, starting with six principles of sexual health as the bare minimum and then going well past them. You will hear why one-sided sex quietly wears a marriage down, what a real yes sounds like, why saying no should never cost you anything, and why being known by your spouse matters more than any technique. If nobody ever gave you a picture of what you are building toward, this episode gives you one.

The Difference Between Being Wanted and Being Loved
Episode 444
Show notes
The spouse who wants sex more often tends to believe that all of the effort, the helping, the compliments, the constant attentiveness, is love. Usually it isn't. In this episode I talk about the difference between wanting someone to love you and actually loving them, and why those two things feel identical from the inside. We look at what a transaction can and cannot buy in a marriage, the anxiety underneath all that pursuit, and what love actually looks like on an ordinary day. There is something here for the spouse who has been doing the pursuing and for the one who has been on the receiving end of it.

Do Men Just Want Sex for Pleasure?
Episode 443
Show notes
Most of us were handed the same story about men and sex, that it is mostly about physical release and not much else. When researchers stopped assuming and actually asked men what drives their desire, the answers came back looking very different from the stereotype. In this episode I walk through what that research found, why so many men have never said any of it out loud, and what it costs a marriage when a wife decides she is interchangeable. I also spend time on the part that gets lost in this conversation, that wanting your body and wanting you are not the same thing, and that the physical was never the problem. If you have ever assumed you already knew why your husband reaches for you, this one is for you.

Why Keeping Score Never Gets You What You Want
Episode 442
Show notes
Most of us keep score in our marriages without ever calling it that. We track who got up with the baby, who apologized first, how many times we reached over and got turned down. It starts as a way to get something to change, and it ends up making sure nothing does. In this episode I talk about what scorekeeping actually is, what it looks like around the house and in the bedroom, and why your count is almost always wrong. We look at the research on why you cannot see most of what your spouse contributes, how confirmation bias keeps a wrong count feeling accurate, the two places resentment comes from, and the over functioning and under functioning pattern sitting underneath a lot of this. Then we talk about what it takes to move a marriage back from transactional to an equal partnership.

Bait and Switch
Episode 441
Show notes
The men in my comments say the same thing over and over. She was one way before the wedding and another way after, and they feel like they were sold something that never got delivered. Women tell me the same thing from the other direction. He wanted to know everything about her before marriage, and now the only time he comes looking for her is when he wants sex. Both of them believe they got the bait and switch, and both of them are partly right. In this episode we look at what actually changed, which is not the people and not the facts, but the meanings underneath them. The way out is not deciding who lied. It is getting curious about what all of this means to the person you married.

Why Couples Stop Kissing and How to Revive It
Episode 440
Show notes
Somewhere along the way, a lot of married couples stop really kissing. It turns into a quick peck at the door, or it only shows up as the first step toward sex. And the spouse who misses it usually decides that means something about whether they are still wanted, which is almost never what is actually going on.
In this episode I get into why kissing disappears from a marriage, what the research says about how men and women experience it differently, and what it takes to get it back. I also say the thing nobody wants me to say about why your spouse might be keeping it short.

Why the Changes You Make Never Last
Episode 439
Show notes
Most couples who come to me have already tried. They have read the books, taken the courses, sat with a therapist, and walked out with a plan they both believed in. And it worked, for a few weeks, maybe a few months, before everything slid back to exactly where it was. In this episode I use an iceberg model I heard Brene Brown describe to explain why that keeps happening. The problem you can see is only the tip. Through the story of one couple who made the same plan five separate times, I walk down all four layers and show why the changes you make never last, and what actually has to shift for them to hold.

The Art of Receiving: Why It's So Hard and Why It Matters
Episode 438
Show notes
Many conversations about improving your sex life focus on what men can do differently. But there's another side that rarely gets talked about: women who can't receive. In this episode, Amanda breaks down two distinct patterns — the wife who checks out and endures, and the wife who keeps redirecting everything back to her husband — exploring why each happens, where the need for control comes from, and what it actually takes to change. Whether you're the one struggling to receive or the husband who's stopped trying, this episode offers a way forward.

Six Patterns That End Marriages
Episode 437
Show notes
After thousands of hours on Zoom with couples, I can usually tell by the second or third conversation which marriages are going to make it. It has almost nothing to do with the size of the problem. In this episode I walk through the six patterns I watch for, what each one sounds like on a call, and what to do if you see your own marriage in one of them. Recognizing one is not a verdict. It's information you can work with.

The Seven Deadly Sins in Your Marriage
Episode 436
Show notes
Most of us have heard of the seven deadly sins, but I'd never heard them reframed quite like this. In this episode, I dig into Elizabeth Oldfield's idea that these old sins aren't really about morality checklists, they're about disconnection, and I bring that lens straight into marriage and the bedroom. The part I can't stop thinking about is a mistranslation in Matthew 5 that's convinced a lot of good, married people they should feel ashamed just for wanting their own spouse. I also discuss how President Benson's "Beware of Pride" talk works within Oldfield's work, and for every pattern that pulls you apart, I give you what actually brings you back together. I invite you to listen and see if anything makes you stop and think about your own relationship. You might be surprised.
Here are the questions for this week's episode.

The Paradoxes Running Your Sex Life
Episode 433
Show notes
Most of the fights in your marriage aren't problems to solve. They're paradoxes, and we get stuck the moment we try to pick a side instead of accepting both. In this episode, I dig into why our faith is built floor to ceiling on paradoxes, why the Stockdale Paradox (brutal honesty plus unshakable faith) separates couples who heal from couples who quietly erode, and why even the word "cleave" asks you to cling and stand apart at the same time. I share how my clients broke a three-year standoff not by resolving their paradox but by stepping into the middle of it. If you've been waiting for the tension in your marriage to disappear before things get good, this one's for you.

Emotional Safety: The Foundation Your Marriage and Sex Life Are Built On
Episode 434
Show notes
What if the problem in your sex life isn't really about sex at all? In this episode, I'm talking about emotional safety and the powerful role it plays in both your marriage and your sexual relationship. We'll look at the patterns that slowly break down emotional safety, including criticism, defensiveness, dismissal, and shame, as well as what both partners can do to rebuild trust and connection. I'll also help you recognize when you may be contributing to an emotionally unsafe environment and show you how curiosity, accountability, repair, and consistency can begin to change those patterns. Because the deepest intimacy happens when both partners feel safe enough to be fully known.

Arousal Without an Agenda
Episode 432
Show notes
Have you ever stopped yourself from feeling close to your spouse because you were worried about where it might lead? In this episode, I explore why arousal, or what the ancient Greeks called Eros, is about so much more than sex. I talk about how learning to experience desire without pressure or expectation can create deeper trust, stronger emotional connection, and a more vibrant marriage. If you've ever felt like affection automatically comes with an agenda, this episode will help you discover how allowing Eros to simply exist can transform both your relationship and your intimate connection.

The Natural Man Was Never About Your Sexuality
Episode 430
Show notes
In this final episode of my five-part series, I challenge the idea that our sexuality is the "natural man" and offer a new framework for understanding what King Benjamin was really teaching in Mosiah 3:19. Together, we'll explore how ego, not desire, is often what keeps us disconnected from God and from our spouse, and how awareness, agency, and alignment can transform our relationships. If you've been following this series, this episode brings everything together into a hopeful path forward. If you're just joining us, I encourage you to go back and listen to the first four episodes to fully understand the journey and how these ideas build on one another. You can find those first four episodes here: 428, 429, 430, 431.

The Sin Next to Murder
Episode 431
Show notes
What if one of the most familiar teachings about sexuality deserves a second look? In this episode, I take a careful look at Alma 39 and the teaching that sexual sin is "next to murder," exploring the historical origins of that interpretation, how it became so embedded in Latter-Day Saint culture, and why I believe the scripture may be saying something very different. I also discuss the lasting impact this belief has had on individuals and marriages, especially through shame and fear, and how a closer reading of the text can open the door to healing, healthier intimacy, and a more compassionate understanding of God. If this teaching has ever shaped the way you view yourself, your sexuality, or your marriage, I hope this episode gives you a new perspective to prayerfully consider.
I would suggest that you listen to the first 3 episodes in this series before listening to this episode. You can find those here: 428, 429, and 430

Sex, Worthiness, and the Rules You Inherited - What It Did to Him
Episode 430
Show notes
What if the messages you received about sexuality shaped you more than you ever realized? In this third episode of my series, I explore how decades of cultural and religious teachings affected the way many men experience desire, shame, intimacy, and marriage. Through the stories of Bennett and Silas, I unpack how those messages can show up in very different ways and why healing begins by coming home to your own body instead of trying to earn your worth. I hope this episode gives you a deeper understanding of yourself and the path toward healthier, more connected intimacy.

Sex, Worthiness, and the Rules You Inherited - What It Did to Her
Episode 429
Show notes
Have you ever wondered why intimacy can feel so difficult, even when you've done everything "right"? In this episode, I explore how the messages many women received growing up can quietly shape their relationship with their bodies, their desire, and their marriages long after the wedding day. Through the stories of Rosalie and Hazel, we look at how different experiences can lead to similar struggles and why those patterns aren't a sign that you're broken. If you're looking for thoughtful Christian intimacy coaching that blends faith, compassion, and practical understanding, this conversation will help you see yourself and your marriage with fresh eyes. This is episode 2 in a series. Listen to episode 1 here.

Sex, Worthiness, and the Rules You Inherited - The Hundred-Year Story
Episode 428
Show notes
What if the struggles you're experiencing in your marriage started long before you ever said "I do"? In this episode, I kick off a five-part series exploring the history, teachings, and cultural influences that shaped how many Latter-day Saints think about sexuality, desire, and worthiness today. We trace the roots of purity culture, gender roles, and sexual messaging over the last century and examine how those lessons continue to affect marriages, intimacy, and personal identity. Whether you're seeking healing, understanding, or support through christian intimacy coaching, this episode offers important context for the stories many couples are still living. Understanding where these beliefs came from is often the first step toward creating a healthier and more connected relationship.

Why Your Spouse Gets Defensive When You're Just Trying to Help
Episode 426
Show notes
What happens when "help" from your spouse starts to feel more like criticism? In this episode, I talk about why even well-intentioned advice can feel like an attack when it isn't invited first, especially in conversations about sex and intimacy. I walk through how unsolicited feedback triggers defensiveness in our nervous systems, why both higher-desire and lower-desire spouses fall into this pattern, and how asking for consent before sharing can completely change the conversation. We'll also talk about practical ways to create emotional safety, move from defensiveness to curiosity, and build a marriage where both people actually feel heard. Sometimes the smallest shift, simply asking "Can I?", can open the door to the kind of connection you've been wanting all along.

When He Stops Initiating
Episode 425
Show notes
How do you reconnect with your spouse after so much distance that you're not even sure you want things to go back to the way they were? In this episode, I talk about what often happens when the higher desire partner stops initiating and why that silence can bring both relief and unexpected grief for women. I explore responsive desire, avoidance, emotional safety, and the complicated vulnerability of reaching back toward someone after months or years of disconnection. We also talk about what healthy initiation can actually look like, how to rebuild trust in small ways, and what to do if you're not even sure you want the sexual relationship to return at all. If you've ever felt stuck between wanting closeness and wanting to protect yourself, this episode will help you understand what may really be happening underneath it all.
