Sobriety is My Superpower with Real Sober Mom Aisling (Replay)
Episode 371
Show notes
Growing up in Ireland, Aisling came to understand that having an ‘alcohol problem’ required a really high bar. Either you were a raging alcoholic, or your relationship with alcohol was fine and not worth examining. As a child, though, Aisling disagreed. She found drunk people terrifying. Looking back? She thinks that young Aisling had it right.
Today Aisling shares her sobriety story, starting as a college student who didn’t make it through school due to her habit, and culminating as a new mom who felt buried with shame each time that alcohol threw her off track in motherhood.
Aisling believes that sobriety is now her superpower. It allows her to show up as her best self in every corner of her life and brings so much joy to her days. She wants you to know that this reality is available for you, as well!
You can read Aisling’s story in my book The Sober Shift: A Modern Day Guide to Living an Abundant Sober Life.

Kid’s Events and Alcohol: Can We Just Let Kid’s Stuff be Kid’s Stuff?
Episode 370
Show notes
I posted a reel this week about drinking and kids events that pissed off a few people on the internet. One comment in particular really stuck with me:
“My son’s first birthday is at a winery with a pumpkin patch. They need to learn a responsible, respectful relationship with alcohol so they don’t have to be sober one day.”
This is almost exactly what I would’ve thought before I experienced life with sobriety. Now, after six beautiful years of sobriety, I have a very different perspective. Check out this episode to hear my thoughts.

The Sweet Freedom of Every Sober First
Episode 368
Show notes
I had a new sober first this week: I got pulled over for speeding. And I’m grateful it happened. Why? Because of the sweet relief that overcame me when I realized that I had zero chance of getting a DUI. It was such a wonderful feeling to know that the worst possible outcome was just a speeding ticket, and nothing more.

You Don’t Have to Know ‘What’s Next’
Episode 366
Show notes
Every time I’m on a podcast I get asked ‘what’s next?’. I never know how to answer this question, because the truth is I don’t have a grand plan for what’s coming next in my life.
If you’re feeling a similar pressure in sobriety, let me take that feeling off of your shoulders:
It’s okay if you don’t know what’s next, or even if you don’t know what’s coming tomorrow. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Today is what matters. You’ll figure out tomorrow as it comes.

Moms Are Carrying Too Damn Much
Episode 362
Show notes
Have you seen the viral ESPN clip this week from The San Francisco Giants game that was titled ‘Mom of The Year Award’? Check it out here. Let’s talk about it.
This woman’s experience is one that so many mothers face. We don’t need an ‘award’ for our overwhelm. What we need is help. Moms are overtaxed with everything we’re carrying in this world, literally and figuratively… and it makes us such a vulnerable target for big alcohol.
Yet, no matter what big alcohol tells you, drinking will not fix this. If you are examining your relationship with alcohol and looking for new ways to find the support you need, I’m applauding you! Keep going.

Perimenopause 101 with Monica Leonard, LPN
Episode 361
Show notes
It feels like talk about perimenopause is everywhere these days, but I have so many questions. What is perimenopause, actually? How does it differ from menopause? Is hormone replacement therapy safe and effective? How do we find a doctor who will actually help us with our perimenopausal symptoms and not just tell us it’s ‘normal’ to feel this way? Is there any way for us to feel well in midlife?!
See, it’s a lot of questions! Monica Leonard of This Is My Midlife is here to help us understand it all. She’ll talk us through the symptoms of perimenopause, the treatments available, how to advocate for yourself in the medical system, and how lifestyle elements like alcohol are making perimenopause even more complicated.

There’s Another Way with Real Sober Mom Lindsay
Episode 357
Show notes
Lindsay Brooke was delivered into the porn industry at just 15 years old, and nineteen when she signed the first contract herself. Narcotics quickly became Lindsay’s most trusted escape mechanism to help her handle the realities of the job. And when those stopped being enough? Alcohol found its way into the mix.
As a mother of three, Lindsay tried to leave the adult entertainment industry each time she had a child. Yet, the realities of the industry and the taboo of her work history made it incredibly difficult to leave. In 2024, she found herself as a single mother of three on the eve of signing a new contract, but no matter how high or drunk she got, she could not physically bring herself to sign it.
Lindsay felt like she had no way out, so she took more pills than she believed her body could handle. And miraculously… She woke up.
Something changed in Lindsay after that day. It became clear to her that no matter what happened, she was going to leave the industry, and she was going to stay sober. Now almost two years sober, Lindsay is dedicated to sharing her own story and helping other women tell theirs. Read her Substack for more at Unlimited Storyworks.

The Sober Curious Teeter Totter with Real Sober Mom Lauren (Replay)
Episode 355
Show notes
In this replay of one of the most downloaded episodes of The Sober Mom Life, you’ll meet Real Sober Mom Lauren.
Texas born Lauren knew how to operate without alcohol. Though she was a heavy drinker in high school, she learned early on through her mother’s cancer journey that sometimes sobriety was necessary in order to attend to life’s challenges. It wasn’t until she was a mom of two that alcohol became a crutch that she consistently leaned on. Lauren chose to leave her career when she had her second child, and the resulting identity crisis she experienced was jarring. She turned to alcohol because it was one of the few things that helped her feel like herself.
When Covid hit, alcohol became even more central to her life, but she continued to feel worse and worse. She had a turning point when she listened to the classic Huberman Lab podcast about alcohol’s effects. For the first time she wondered: what if alcohol was the problem?
Twenty-six days of sobriety seemed to show her the truth. She felt so much better sober, in every way. A girl’s trip at the end of her sober stretch resulted in major FOMO, though, and alcohol slipped back into her life. This began a years long teeter totter of sober curiosity until she found Fresh 30 within the Sober Mom Life Cafe. The small group experience gave her the support she needed to feel seen and understood.
Lauren has stayed sober since last summer, and has been a regular in the Cafe, Fresh 30, and on the retreat. She is so grateful for the support she’s received in this community!

The Lindsay Clancy Trial: Moms Need Help
Episode 354
Show notes
I’ve been glued to The Lindsay Clancy Trial for weeks, and for me it feels personal. As a new mom, I was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety/OCD. As I listen to the testimonies of this trial all I can think is - thank god my help worked.
The Lindsay Clancy Trial is laying bare how much our system downplays the challenges of postpartum women. In today’s episode, I’ll share a bit of my own story, give my thoughts on the expert testimony in the case, and address all of the ways that alcohol is being left out of the conversation.
New moms, if you are struggling please know: You are not alone, and there is help. I know, I was there, and I’m so grateful the help I found worked for me.
