  1. When a Bad Mood Feels Familiar

    Episode 177

    Show notes

Our bad moods can be so much more than an inconvenience; they can become toxic hiding places for what we are feeling and what we cannot control. Mindfulness helps with our understanding that these moods are temporary, despite not feeling that way in the moment. Rather than escaping to our hiding places, we can utilize mindfulness to step out of that familiar loop by building the confidence necessary to change for the better. We’re not perfect. And we need to remember to cultivate the same patience and loving-kindness toward ourselves as we would a child learning something new.

Commitment and self-compassion are at the heart of resistment and appreciating the effort it take to build a more fulfilling life. Sometimes, you don’t need to know your final destination. 3. Refilling Your Bottle of Qualities

    Episode 173

    Show notes

This episode explores how our attention, actions, and environment shape our experience of life, using the metaphor of a flashlight to show how easily we can mistake what we focus on for the whole picture. Through meditation and metta (loving-kindness), we learn to cultivate compassion, wisdom, and inner qualities that aren't dependent on the changing circumstances around us. The episode encourages us to consistently "refill" ourselves with the qualities we want to embody, reminding us that with intention, determination, and practice, we can change the direction of our lives.

Through the metaphor of a garden overgrown with weeds, we explore how to distinguish between what we can and cannot control, create breathing room during difficult times, and support ourselves and others with wisdom, courage, and compassion.

  5. Are Your Emotions Feeding You, or Feeding ON You?

    Episode 171

    Show notes

What is the difference between a thought and an emotion, and how can mindfulness change the way we relate to both? This episode explores how contact, perception, thoughts, and bodily reactions can develop into emotional experience and how mindful awareness can help us notice the process before we react. We can learn to observe emotions such as anger and fear without feeding or suppressing them. This allows us to create more space, freedom, and wisdom in our responses to everyday life.

    Episode 170

    Show notes

Weaknesses are qualities that impede our lives. None of us are perfect, so how do we deal with our weaknesses? In this podcast, Bhante explains that the most important step in mindfulness is recognizing weaknesses as weaknesses and not strengths we use to get through the day. He introduces practical ways in which we can overcome weaknesses by embracing opposite qualities and learning not to feed our weaknesses when they arise.

    Episode 169

    Show notes

This talk explains that meditation develops the ability to experience each moment without the filters of past judgments, memories, or future fears. By cultivating "radical mindfulness," meditators learn to recognize experiences as they truly are, rather than reacting through personal interpretations and emotional habits. Through this practice, we free ourselves from the "old food" of the past and the "unprepared food" of the future, allowing us to live with greater wisdom, peace, and presence.

    Episode 166

    Show notes

Have you ever had intrusive thought patterns that always seem to poison your mind? Something that almost doesn’t seem like “yours”? If so, you’re not alone. He explains that mindfulness allows one to recognize unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and habits while encouraging honesty, self-compassion, and the willingness to change course. Through developing new skills, wise reflection, and mindful intentions, we can stop identifying with unfriendly thoughts and cultivate beneficial patterns of thinking and behavior.

  17. Putting Kindness into Action

    Episode 159

    Show notes

What can a child’s mind do concerning compassion? In this podcast, Bhante Sathi explores the all too often dilemma between “wishing happiness” on others versus executing that action. Unlike a child-like perspective on the world, we unconsciously create barriers and walls of identity that make up who we think we are. But by developing a child-like sense of self and expectation, we can break down those barriers and cultivate the inner freedom required to extend genuine compassion for all living things.

    Episode 158

    Show notes

Have you ever wondered what being “free” from obstacles means during metta meditation? In this podcast, Bhante Sathi circles back to this question by exploring how much of our suffering comes from seeking happiness outside ourselves and resisting what we experience internally. Through mindfulness, we can begin to recognize patterns of craving, perception, and avoidance, allowing us to respond with greater clarity and compassion rather than reactivity. He emphasizes that true freedom doesn’t come from escaping life’s challenges, but from understanding them and relating to them with awareness and balance.

While the main topic focuses on these key conceptions, he also explains dukkha and misconceptions that can flourish in the realm of language. With simple, relatable examples, he discusses how easy it is to misunderstand these concepts—and how real clarity comes from paying attention to what’s happening in the present moment.
