    Episode 29

    Show notes

Can vegan bodybuilding be a powerful form of animal activism?

On this episode of the Vegan Squad Pod, we’re joined by Charlie Ziegler, aka @chucktheveganlifter, an OCB Pro natural bodybuilder who made headlines after winning the overall bodybuilding title at the 2026 Midwest OCB Spring Naturals, alongside fellow vegan athlete Joey Bilotich, who won the overall classic physique title.

After a decade of dedication to bodybuilding, Charlie earned his Pro Card and gained attention for showing what’s possible when you combine a vegan lifestyle with competitive bodybuilding.

We dive into Charlie’s vegan origin story, his journey in natural bodybuilding, and how he uses his physique and social media presence to advocate for animals and challenge misconceptions about plant-based nutrition.

We also explore different approaches to vegan activism, how to reach people who aren't vegan, and how athletes can use their platforms to inspire change and make a difference for animals.

Whether you're interested in vegan bodybuilding, building muscle on a plant-based diet, natural bodybuilding competitions, or finding effective ways to advocate for animals, this conversation offers a look at how fitness can become a powerful tool for compassion and change.

  2. Can Vegan Options Change the World? Raquel Little on Restaurant Activism

    Episode 28

    Show notes

Can changing what restaurants put on their menus help change the world?

On today's episode, we are joined by Raquel Little (@MyVeganLady), to explore a unique approach to vegan activism: using restaurants, food, and community to make veganism more accessible.

Raquel takes us behind the scenes of the Vegan Chef Challenge, a month-long plant-based dining event where restaurants compete to create the best vegan dishes, communities vote for their favorites, and participating chefs have the opportunity to reach new customers and discover just how much demand exists for great vegan food.

But the goal goes far beyond a competition. Raquel explains how encouraging non-vegan restaurants to add and improve their vegan options can create lasting change - sometimes resulting in restaurants keeping new vegan dishes on their menus permanently.

We discuss whether making vegan food more mainstream and accessible could be one of the most effective ways to reach people who aren't vegan, the role of supply and demand in expanding vegan options, and how removing the stigma around the word “vegan” can make these conversations more productive.

We also dive into ethical veganism, different approaches to animal activism, communicating without blame, avoiding infighting within the movement, navigating grief, and why patience, community, collaboration, and measurable impact are so important for creating meaningful change.

This conversation offers a look at vegan restaurant activism and the idea that sometimes changing the menu can be a powerful way to change minds—and ultimately create a more compassionate world.

  3. Activism Through Yoga with David Baylie: Ahimsa, Veganism, & Nonviolence

    Episode 27

    Show notes

Is yoga inherently vegan? And can it improve your activism?

In this episode of the Vegan Squad Pod, we’re joined by David Baylie, a certified vegan personal trainer, yoga instructor, and science of stretching coach who leads the Vegan Squad Yoga community.

David explains why yoga is vegan and how the ancient yogic principle of ahimsa (non-violence) connects the practice of yoga with veganism, compassion, and animal activism.

Drawing from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, we explore how the ethical principles behind yoga extend beyond the mat and into the way we interact with animals, other people, and the world around us. David shares why becoming more aware of our actions can naturally lead us toward greater compassion and more conscious living.

Beyond the physical practice, we dive into some of the biggest challenges facing the vegan movement. Including social pressure, fear of judgment, and how we communicate veganism without blame or shame. We discuss how yoga and mindfulness communities can create an opening for conversations about veganism, compassion, and animal rights.

Learn more about the Vegan Squad Yoga community, where David leads live yoga classes and helps members build strength, flexibility, balance, and confidence while connecting with a global vegan community!

  4. Sarina Farb: A Lifelong Vegan Building Community at Vibrant Vegan Fest

    Episode 26

    Show notes

What does it actually feel like to be raised vegan from birth and to turn that upbringing into a movement?

Today we're joined by Sarina Farb, a 32-year-old lifelong vegan hosting one of the largest vegan retreats in America: Vibrant Vegan Fest. Raised by two vegan parents, Sarina walks us through her family's education-first approach - activism events, age appropriate conversations, label-reading flashcards - and how it taught her early on that she's vegan for the animals, not her health or any other bonus.

Sarina opens up about what it was like growing up vegan in Kansas, where isolation was common and annual vegan conferences became a vital sense of belonging. From college activism to teaching, speaking tours, and work in whole-food, plant-based lifestyle medicine, we trace how her path led to creating Vibrant Vegan Fest: part music festival, part vegan summer camp, part wellness retreat, part conference, all wrapped in uplifting, joyful energy.

Join Sarina and 200 fellow attendees this September 10th-14th in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, for a 5-day retreat to remember - featuring cooked plant-based meals, workshops, yoga, dance, camp activities, and more!

  5. Activism Through Conscious Masculinity: Joey Bilotich on Empowering Men Through Veganism, Spirituality, & Veganism

    Episode 25

    Show notes

Can compassion make you a stronger man?

On today's episode of the Vegan Squad Pod, we're joined by Joey Bilotich, a 22-year-old vegan fitness creator, OCB Pro natural bodybuilder, and advocate for conscious masculinity.

Joey shares his incredible journey from years of partying, drug use, and anxiety to discovering purpose through self-development, martial arts, and ultimately veganism. After growing up on a meat-heavy diet, conversations with his brother (who was inspired by Ed Winters' debates) and his father's empathy for animals, Joey was inspired to watch The Game Changers and Dominion... which transformed the way he viewed animals forever.

We explore how Joey went vegan just one year ago and earned his OCB Pro card while using bodybuilding to challenge the myth that "you can't build muscle on a plant-based diet". Joey also opens up about a powerful spiritual experience on the way to his competition that reshaped his purpose and inspired him to use his platform to help young men become stronger, more conscious versions of themselves.

Together, we discuss effective vegan activism: reaching carnivore influencers through respectful conversations, the psychology and spirituality behind animal agriculture, experimenting with raw vegan nutrition, and why true masculinity is rooted in compassion rather than domination.

Whether you're interested in veganism, natural bodybuilding, self-development, or creating meaningful change, this conversation offers practical insights and a fresh perspective on what it means to live with strength, purpose, and integrity!

  8. David Ramms' Secrets to Effective Vegan Activism (Without Pushing People Away)

    Episode 22

    Show notes

What if the way we advocate for veganism matters just as much as the message itself?

In this episode of the Vegan Squad Pod, we sit down with UK-born vegan advocate David Ramms to explore his journey from being raised vegetarian to becoming a full-time vegan activist. After moving from the UK to Spain and later Croatia, David found his passion for advocacy through Anonymous for the Voiceless and has since dedicated his life to helping others embrace a more compassionate lifestyle.

Together, we discuss why creating a welcoming vegan movement is essential, how behavior-change psychology can be more effective than confrontation, and why focusing on non-vegans (not policing imperfect vegans) can lead to greater impact. David also shares practical insights on maintaining healthy relationships with family and friends, preventing activist burnout, and building a sustainable approach to advocacy that lasts a lifetime.

Whether you're a longtime vegan, a new activist, or simply curious about effective communication, this conversation is packed with thoughtful perspectives on creating meaningful change!

  9. The Vegan Amazon: How Jonathan Faran is Revolutionizing E-Commerce with Vegan America

    Episode 21

    Show notes

What if there were a one-stop marketplace where every purchase could align with your values?

Today, we’re joined by Jonathan Faran, co-founder of Vegan America, a rapidly growing plant-based marketplace that’s been described as a vegan version of Amazon and Costco. Although the platform launched just last November, it already features hundreds of sellers and tens of thousands of products spanning food, fashion, cosmetics, household goods, gifts, and services.

Jonathan shares the personal experience that inspired the idea for Vegan America: the surprisingly difficult search for a pair of vegan dress shoes. That challenge led him to a broader realization that living vegan extends far beyond food, with animal-derived ingredients often hidden in everyday products consumers rarely think about.

We also explore Jonathan’s own journey: from becoming vegetarian at age four after watching Chicken Run to being vegan for the past decade, and how those experiences shaped his entrepreneurial mission. He explains Vegan America’s rigorous product-vetting process, free vendor onboarding, and the company’s latest expansion efforts, including Plant Preferred, a Prime-like membership program, and a growing directory of mission-aligned service providers such as vegan therapists.

Throughout the conversation, we discuss how everyday purchasing decisions can serve as a form of activism and unpack the business “flywheel” behind Vegan America’s vision: supporting vegan businesses increases accessibility and consumer demand, creating a cycle that helps more people choose plant-based options while reducing animal suffering.

In this episode, Jonathan offers an inside look at the future of values-driven commerce and how conscious consumers can help build it.

  10. Dr. Matthew Nagra on Vegan Advocacy, Nutrition Science, and Social Media

    Episode 20

    Show notes

From protein deficiencies to “you can’t be vegan” warnings, plant-based diets are surrounded by persistent myths. Dr. Matthew Nagra - a naturopathic doctor, nutrition science communicator, and vegan of more than 15 years - has spent years examining what the evidence actually shows.

In today's episode, Matthew shares how he first adopted a plant-based diet for health and athletic performance before becoming ethically motivated after watching Earthlings. He discusses facing pushback in naturopathic medical school, how that challenged him to study the research more deeply, and why he ultimately adopted a more objective approach that acknowledges healthy animal-food dietary patterns are possible, though not necessary.

We also explore medical ketogenic diets for intractable epilepsy, protein requirements and sources, the limitations of raw diets, common nutrient concerns such as protein, iron, and calcium, the uncertainty surrounding vitamin D recommendations, the claims behind “I was told I can’t be vegan,” and practical advice for effective activism, including consistency, diverse approaches, and avoiding perfectionism on social media.

James discusses running Fauna Films, through which he is creating localized pro-vegan visual media in the Global South, including a four-part Indonesian series hosted by a well-known comedian that highlights naturally plant-based Indonesian foods, colonial influences on animal product consumption, and issues like widespread dairy intolerance and imported dairy cows. 18. Rap Your Way to Activism: Jimmy Cashpey's Vegan Journey

    Episode 12

    Show notes

Today we're joined by activist and rapper Jimmy Cashpey (James Aspey), who shares how he went from health-motivated vegetarianism to ethical veganism after learning the realities shown in Earthlings. He recounts taking a year-long vow of silence to raise awareness, traveling across Australia visiting sanctuaries and factory farms, rescuing animals, cycling after his van broke down, and breaking his silence with a vegan message on a major Australian morning TV show. Jimmy discusses activism burnout, chronic pain, social media backlash, and why he shifted from purely encouraging outreach to a tougher, more shame-driven honesty he believes is missing. He explains how he now uses “gangster rap” and music videos as strategic activism to communicate animal-rights realities.
